New Pagani C9 to be called Huayra?

By Alison

Pagani C9 rendering

The Pagani C9 could turn out to be called the Pagani Huayra according to trademark applications for the name. This new name (which we hope will emerge with a pronunciation guide), apparently derives from the old south american word ‘quechua’ meaning wind. This would continue a tradition of Pagani cars being named after winds or words native to its Argentinian origins, with Zonda being a wind that blows on the Andes. The first pics of the new Pagani C9 could appear at the end of this month, although the official presentation is set for the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in March.

Jeremy Clarkson track drives the Pagani Zonda R: video

By Alison

In this video Jeremy Clarkson drives the Pagani Zonda R as part of his DVD collection on Italy’s supercars. For the first time, we get what the Zonda R is all about - as Clarkson says it’s a “pure speed machine”. It’s not designed for racing, although it’s clearly one of the fastest cars on the planet, and it looks more like a pure prototype race car if you took away all the regulations involving race cars. It sounds quite scary, frankly. Compared to the Ferrari 599 GTO, which Clarkson also tried, this has an extra 70 hp and weighs a full 400 kg less. Not for the faint hearted - see what Clarkson has to say about it in the video. The key to the script? Clarkson says: “I asked the guys at Zonda how fast it goes and they said they’ve got no idea…”

Pagani Zonda R track drive by Fifth Gear

By Alison

Last week we saw the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport test driven by Autocar, and today we bring you Tiff Needell driving the Pagani Zonda R. The supercar is as impressive as the Bugatti depending on which camp you’re in, though perhaps its style is more along the lines of a classic, Formula 1 look. Something which should suit Needell.

The Zonda R is equipped with a 6.0-litre V12 from Mercedes with 750 hp. It can get to 100 km/hr in just 2.7 seconds, has a top speed of 350 km/hr and weighs just 1,070 kg. Obviously Needell track tests the whole lot - horse power and low weight - in his farewell to the Zonda before it gets replaced by the future C9.

Obviously by the time the drive gets underway Needell does an awful lot of yelling to make himself heard, but what we can gather is that Pagani built a near-perfect vehicle with sweet torque and steering to match the awesome power. Of course, there’s the need to switch off the traction control at one point and then things get serious.

Pagani Zonda Tricolore video

By Alison

We often see car manufacturers drawing a long bow with some of their chosen metaphors, but in this beautiful video the Pagani Zonda Tricolore deserves its association with Italy’s jet fighting acrobatics team, the Frecce Tricolore. The team celebrated its 50th anniversary over the weekend and this video of the one-off Zonda Tricolore has been produced to honour them. The new Pagani C9 is on its way, and so we’re getting these one-off Zondas as part of the model’s swansong. The Tricolore model itself cost 1.3 million euros.

Pagani Zonda R track drive video

By Alison

I was horrified on first seeing this that Autocar was going to a 90-second test drive verdict on the Pagani Zonda R but in retrospect it would have been fun to see them try. What’s there to say, really? The Zonda R represents the Zonda swansong before the new Pagani C9 turns up but that obviously doesn’t mean they shoved one off the production line with a few stickers attached and called it a special edition.

The Pagani Zonda R is equipped with an aspirated six-litre V12 engine with 750 hp. Clearly not a street legal car. The presenter is visibly excited which is quite funny really as he takes us through the technical details of the vehicle. The Zonda R can reach 900 hp without its power limiter and its gearbox is a full track job.

We’ll leave you to check out the video yourselves but we had to point out the one hilarious quote from Italian driver, Andrea Montermini. Question: “How do you drive it?” Answer: “It’s a piece of cake.”

Pagani Zonda Uno more pics

Pagani Zonda Uno

More new pics of the Pagani Zonda Uno have emerged, with the guys at Autoblog.it obviously having the right reader contacts in their blogging community. As we already know, the Zonda Uno is destined for a rich Arab client and we might be tempted to begrudge him his purchase, except that we know that if it weren’t for customers like him, these kinds of cars would never get produced. Who else is going to order a one-off Pagani with 700 hp?

Pagani Zonda Uno videos and pics

By Alison

The one-off Pagani Zonda Uno is destined for Qatar but here are pics and videos from the guys at Autoblog.it. It’s rare to see a Pagani as it is, let alone a one-off Pagani Zonda which could be the swan song of the Zonda supercar. The Zonda looks like it will be replaced by a model currently called the C9.

This Zonda Uno is full of carbon fibre, has a special light blue tint and is equipped with an AMG 7.3-litre V12 engine which apparently produces 700 hp. Will the rich sheik drive it? We hope so because otherwise, what a waste!

Pagani Zonda R new video

By Alison

The Pagani Zonda R appears in this new video and frankly, the blood really does just go to your head on seeing it. The video is very cinematographic although its main purpose is to highlight the track focus of the new Pagani. We get to see the Zonda R from all angles, but more importantly we get some serious track action. Check it out in the video.

One-off Pagani Zonda Tricolore pics: Geneva motor show preview

By Alison

One-off Pagani Zonda Tricolore pics

The Pagani Zonda Tricolore will debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, and in the gallery below you can see the preview pics of the Tricolore. This Zonda is dedicated to Italy’s famous air force jet fighter aerobatics team, the “Frecce Tricolore”, who will celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2011.

Aside from the fact that a Pagani Zonda will always be an iconic supercar, the Tricolore is striking for its amazing livery. Based on the Zonda Cinque, it’s built from a carbonfibre-titanium structure. It is a one-off, unpainted example that has a clear blue lacquer finish and Italy’s red, white and green stripes up the nose, reflecting the MB-339 jets used in aerobatics displays.

Compared to the Zonda Cinque, it has extra air vents and LED daytime lights. It could be your last chance to get a Zonda before it’s replaced by the Pagani C9 later this year; but at 1.3 million euros it’s really anyone’s guess as to who the one lucky person will be who can actually afford it. Even the photo of the Tricolore ‘cockpit’ is worth seeing!

Video: Pagani Zonda R takes a road trip

By Alison

It might be a car officially suitable only for track use, but we think no-one will object to a small road appearance for the Pagani Zonda R. And so the people of San Cesario sul Panaro got to hear a smooth V12 AMG baritone cruising their streets. Check out the video.

Pagani Zonda PS: a unique specimen for a hard-to-satisfy English client

By Julia

Pagani Zonda PS

In the past weeks there was talk of a special new version of the Zonda, but really there was just model produced because of a request for a unique specimen. The Zonda PS was commissioned by an English client who apparently was not sufficiently attracted by a “simple” Zonda F and who was not able to grab himself a Zonda Cinque.

This Zonda PS is derived from the Zonda F but with modified tail pipes, similar rims to those found on the Zonda R, exclusive paint work and, it seems, the sequential shift transmission that we’ll see shortly on the new C9.

Pagani Zonda R and Zonda Cinque shots from Geneva

By Alison

There’s nothing like an affable manager to really give you a tour of a supercar, and in the case of Pagani at the Geneva show, we got lucky again with the warm nature of Horacio. We got to have a look under the bonnet of the Zonda R and Zonda Cinque, which he opened for us.

On seeing the engine, it doesn’t take much to imagine the emotion that the six litre, V12 Mercedes-AMG motor can give. It’s capable of 750hp and 710Nm (with 150hp actually culled to ensure durability and trustworthy performance driving). The Pagani supercar reaches 100 km/hr in just 2.7 seconds, weighs 1070 kg and has a top speed of 350 km/hr. All this for a whopping 1,460,000 euros. But if we had the money…
