Alfa Romeo TZ Stradale Zagato video

By Alison

Here is the first video of the new Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale by Zagato getting final touches in the workshop before the Stradale model takes to the road. In the video we get a good look at the Kamm-tail and hear an engine rumble, and while the former is not everyone’s cup of tea, the front end is really quite beautiful.

The Dodge Viper-based Zagato Alfa model has been designed by Norihiko Harada and will be produced in a run of nine models. The Kamm-tail takes on the 1960’s aerodynamic solution used on the original TZ and TZ2 models. The first Alfa TZ3 Stradale has been delivered to American collector Eric King, while the next two models have been sold to a Japanese and a European customer.

Alfa TZ3 Stradale Zagato

The first Zagato TZ3 Stradale has been built and delivered to the first customer. The model is based on the TZ3 Corsa which was designed to celebrate 100 years of Alfa Romeo last year. The Corsa race version went on show at Villa d’Este last year and won the Design Concept Award. The TZ3 Corsa is a pure racing model, while the roadgoing Stradale version is more an exercise in avant garde style.

That’s not to say it isn’t an impressive performance car, all the same. Zagato describes it as neo-classical, but this neo classicism is based on a Dodge Viper ACR chassis with carbonfibre body panels, (the Corsa has a 4.2-litre V8 as powertrain). The Corsa version is particularly linked to the Alfa Romeo TZ and TZ2 both it and the Stradale have Zagato’s classic “Coda Tronca” rear.

The first Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale Zagato has been delivered to American collector Eric King, also a member of the Saratoga Automobile Museum. The Zagato company is describing this is as the first “American Alfa Romeo” in history, due to the Fiat-Chrysler deal and the components subsequently borrowed from Dodge. If that’s the case, we’re only too happy to see more of these American Alfas.

Zagato TZ3 production: Dodge Viper platform

By Alison

Zagato TZ3 Corsa - Concorso d'eleganza Villa d'Este 2010

The drop-dead gorgeous Zagato TZ3 one-off revealed at last year’s Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza on Lake Como in Italy will not be so “one-off” after all. Autobild launched the rumour that the Zagato TZ3 would get a small production run, and the report has since been confirmed to Autoblog.com by the company itself.

Interestingly, after the Fiat-Chrysler merger, the TZ3 will be based on the Dodge Viper and will use carbonfibre bodywork. It’s a departure from tradition where past Zagato TZ models were based on Alfa Romeo cars. The TZ3 Corsa one-off was built for collector Martin Kapp who already has an Alfa Romeo TZ and TZ2 in his garage.

The TZ3 model won the concept design award at the famous Villa d’Este event, but at the time it was equipped with a Maserati V8 engine. In the TZ3 Stradale road-going production model we get could the Dodge Viper’s 8.2-litre V10 engine instead, and other aspects of the racing model - including monocoque carbon shell, rollbar cage and hand-made aluminium bodywork - will be modified.
