Here’s the lovely Volvo S60 sedan at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. The S60 is battling in tough segment, dominated by the German brands, but it’s got a lot on its side. The S60 design is impressive, the safety is nothing less than what you’d expect from Volvo, and it has solid engine line-up with good performance stats: the entry level model is a 2.0-litre diesel with 163 hp and 400 Nm of torque.
The field of medium-sized sedans looks like it could have a new contender in the midst. Meanwhile, there was neither sight nor sound of the “naughty Volvos” S60 R at Geneva, so you’ll have to go back to the videos for more information on them.
The “Naughty Volvos are coming” videos show a new Volvo S60 with a sporty look which we could see at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. The model could be the new Volvo S60 R currently in concept stage, which would be the future of a high performance sedan, or the S60 R-Design kit which competes with Audi’s S-Line kit and BMW’s M-Sport.
Volvo’s future is uncertain but we’ll have a chance to check out a couple of the new models at the Geneva show, where more information will emerge about the “naughty” Volvos on the way. After the jump is an image of the sporty S60 and another preview teaser video.

Get a close up look at the new Volvo S60 in these official videos, where we can see just how much of a competitor to the Audi sportback design it could be. The S60 looks aggressive, yet elegant, and the video called “Sculpted to Move You” is all about showing of its fluid lines, with a touch of dynamism. After the jump, see more videos of the new S60, including more driving footage, an interior studio sequence and the crash test.
The new Volvo S60 has been released and will debut at the 2010 Geneva motor show, ten years after the debut of the model it’s replacing. Plenty has changed in the interim, and this could be the very impressive swan song for the company about to change hands. The Volvo S60 has never been so good, with top-of-the-range quality, avantgarde technical solutions and a very good engine range.
The new S60 looks lovely, it must be said, taking its inspiration from the concept of the same name and with the coupĂ© touch now so evident in this very competitive segment. Volvo has played a clever game with the S60, making it ‘longish’ at 463 cm, but nothing excessive with the Opel Insignia considerably longer at 483. However, interior space and boot capacity has not been sacrificed, with the latter measuring 380 litres.
The Volvo S60 has four engine options with the T family (petrol) and D (diesel). The entry level option is a 2.0-litre diesel engine with 163 hp and 400 Nm of torque, reaching 100 km/hr in 9.2 seconds and having 220 km/hr of top speed. The 2.0T from Ford origin has 203 hp and 300 Nm of torque, reaching 100 km/hr in 7.7 seconds. Its fuel economy measures 5.9 litres per 100 km.
This is a cool video from Volvo of the new S60 sedan, showing some extreme driving and the first glimpse at the interior, before its official debut at the 2010 Geneva motor show. The S60 is an updated version of the model, and will debut with engine options including GTDi petrol models, and turbocharged diesels with 1.6 and 2.0 litres. We could also see a 3.0-litre turbo model with more than 250 hp.
The new 2010 Volvo S60 is featured in a new YouTube video where we get a closer look at what is a very attractive design for the new sedan. The official S60 presentation will take place at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March, with production starting early this coming summer.
A statement from Volvo reads: “We will ensure that this is the first car video on YouTube in 2010. It will be released on Volvo Car’s channel on YouTube a few seconds after we have entered the new year,” says Senior Vice President, Public Affairs, Olle Axelson.
To see the video, go to Volvo’s YouTube channel at: www.youtube.com/user/VolvoCarsNews, or see after the jump. Here’s hoping that 2010 is a brighter year for Volvo, with this lovely sports sedan bringing some spark to the company.
Update: Video added after the jump.
The first official pics of the Volvo S60 have been released, with the company describing this new sedan as the sportiest and most dynamic Volvo to date. We’ll have to wait a little while before seeing the S60 in the flesh, as its public debut is planned for the 2010 Geneva motor show in March.
We’ll probably have to wait to see the Volvo S60 live before deciding whether it’s a real competitor in this cutthroat segment, and no details on the engine range are available yet, either. On first impressions, though, the S60 looks nice and it needs to be with the looming sale of Volvo making this an important model for the brand. CEO statement after the jump.
According to 200,000 Auto Bild readers across 27 European countries, the Volvo S60 Concept is the best show-car of the latest year. The design pre-empts the next Volvo, and won over 28 other concept cars. The Auto Bild vote and its Auto Bild Design Award was broadened this year to include the whole of Europe.
The Volvo S60 Concept was presented at the Detroit show in January and is the prelude to the S60 series debut to occur next year. The prototype was appreciated for its fluid lines, pure and traditional Scandinavian design, and some technological innovations, including the suspended glass console feature.
The S60 model, moving into production, will be absolutely crucial for the future of Volvo, and the task will be to maintain the successful promises that have appeared on the prototype. Without this S60, Volvo’s future could be bleak, but here’s hoping the design award affords a little spark of hope.
Here are the first official shots of the Volvo S60 Concept which will debut at the next Detroit auto show and will likely steal the spotlight from other sedans present. The S60 concept marks a significant step forward in design for the Swedish company, showing a dynamic coupè-sedan with a see-through roof and play on curved lines.
The transparent roof allows for a full view of the interior and provides for a well-lit cabin space. The seats are four separate, sculptured seats and the front car doors are in conventional style, while the rear doors are sliding.
The external style is still under concept form, but reveals some Volvo style elements such as the front of the XC60, while the rear is more agressive. Aspects from the old S60 have been kept and the new LED lights, when off, have a uniform red colour. If the S60 takes on this concept look, the battle amongst European sedans, especially for the Germans, could become more intense.

This rendering from AutoWeek of the Volvo S60 shows some risky style elements that form part of the general visual experiment. It appears that the S60 as a medium sedan is still choosing between a muscular look or a more elegant and traditional sedan look.
The family feeling introduced by the XC60, with its threating nose and elongated headlights, manages to unite with apparent harmony the sports sedan dilemma. Its debut is expected for the next Detroit motor show where it will appear as a concept car.
