The Volkswagen Polo R WRC rally car will get a debut in the 2013 World Rally Championship. The new Polo model will be equipped with a 1.6-litre, turbocharged engine which could produce about 300 hp. The Polo R WRC will complete at least two years in the rally championship, until 2015, although official drivers haven’t been announced yet.
VW has some rallying history from the 1980’s and the Polo R is already an on-road competitor for the Citroen DS3 and Ford Fiesta. Obviously any rallying success is not just about the hot hatch, but also the team that Volkswagen can build, but after the return of Mini to the WRC, the competition is getting more interesting.
