Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid

The new Volvo V60 Hybrid will be another of the ecological cars on show at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show next week. The
V60 Plug-in Hybrid is pretty much ready for production but is expected on the market sometime next year. The new model will have a 2.4-litre D5 diesel engine with 250 hp and 440 Nm of torque, and an electric motor producing another 70 hp. The batteries are a 12 kW lithium ion pack which combine to achieve CO2 emissions of less than 50 g/km.

Battery recharge time for the V60 hybrid ranges from three to 7.5 hours depending on the power outlet. Style-wise the hybrid version is the same as the standard V60 except for a new white colour, slightly redesigned aerodynamic kit and dedicated alloy wheels. On the inside we get the hybrid display screen with information that can also be recovered remotely via a smartphone application.

The car can run in three modes: hybrid, all-electric or even all-diesel which is new for this kind of vehicle. The V60 Plug-in Hybrid has a range of 50 km in all-electric mode, while in hybrid it has a range of 1,200 km and consumes just 1.9 l/100 km of fuel. A “Power” mode allows for the full potential of the engine to be used, and the car gets to 100 km/hr in just 6.9 seconds when using this setting.
