The Aston Martin Cygnet in this gallery, shows off its various colours to emphasise the limited edition, exclusive nature of this car. As we saw with the Cygnet live pics from Geneva, it’s the interior that lets you know you’re driving an Aston, otherwise it is just a Toyota iQ in disguise. The Cygnet can be ordered in all kinds of different tints, kits and finishings in accordance with the one-off idea.
Only 2,000 units of the Aston Martin Cygnet will be produced, although the date when production will start hasn’t been announced. Neither has the Cygnet price, although rumours suggest it could be about 22,000 euros, which 7,000 euros more than the Toyota iQ. The Cygnet is equipped with Toyota’s 1.33 litre engine with 100 hp.
The Aston Martin Cygnet interior is what makes this a special compact, city car. The exterior has been modified just enough to make it more pleasing to the eye than the Toyota iQ, but it hardly screams the Aston brand. The interior, on the other hand, is truly amazing - just like a luxury, 12 cylinder coupĂ©. We won’t hazard a guess as to how successful this will be for Aston, as it seems more like a fun experiment for Aston owners than anything else, but we still enjoyed seeing the Cygnet in the flesh.
The Aston Stand at the Geneva Motor Show also exhibits the DB9 CoupĂ©, DBS Volante, the V12 Vantage and the Rapide sedan. It’s got to be one of the most elegant and sophisticated stands at the show and is well worth a look if you’re there.

This is a very funky, juvenile video for Aston Martin, as the luxury brand promotes its Aston Martin Cygnet model. The Cygnet is only available to those who already own an Aston, and the ad probably reflects more the Toyota iQ that the Cygnet is based on. At this stage, only 2,000 Cygnet models will be produced.
Here are the first detailed pics of the Aston Martin Cygnet. Based on the Toyota iQ, it’s designed for the luxury-conscious city commuter and includes Aston style such as the front grille, rear headlights and door handles. The interior is particularly luxurious, and while using the iQ as a platform, it is made fully from leather with new colours and trim.
There’s not much information on the technical aspects of the car and when it might become available, although different wheels are expected to be used, as well as the more powerful 1.3-litre four cylinder iQ engine. Currently a concept model, the Aston Martin Cygnet could be available by the end of the next year, initially only to current Aston owners.
According to Aston Martin, the reason behind making the Cygnet is not just to lower the company’s overall carbon dioxide emissions, but to offer an innovative transport solution. About 1,000 to 1,000 Cygnets a year are expected to be built at Gaydon facilities, using iQ models imported from Japan.

Aston Martin has released new pictures of the Cygnet, the economy car based on the Toyota iQ. However there are some differences between the two, especially with regards to the lights: the rear group recapture the classic V design, while the solution for the anterior end is much more intricate and, to tell the truth, not very definitive.
Same goes for the rest of the car: these pictures were announced to anticipate the concept car (to be displayed at Frankfurt?), but they have the sole (de)merit of showing with what nonchalance Aston Martin dealt with this crucial step in continuing its elite brand. Was it really too costly to not dedicate more attention to the details of the characterizing features? An example would be the anterior side scoops which seem “glued on” badly.

Sometimes I dream of a car that’s easy to park, especially in Europe, and the Toyota iQ could be the next solution. In this video you can see the iQ in parking action with even a little stunt move at the end. Whether you will actually be allowed to park you car like this is probably superfluous in the end - whoever gives you a fine, it will only be because they’re jealous.

This first Toyota iQ commercial shows the Japanese car is working hard on its chic image for the difficult market of a European metropolitan audience. The car was presented at the Paris show, and costs 13,600 euros. The jury is still out on whether it will be successful or not. Time will tell.

From the outside you’d never guess it, but inside it’s surprising (in its small way), how much space there is. The new anti-Smart Toyota iQ, which we will see in October, is debuting at the Paris show.
The editorial at edmunds, who were invited to Japan for an exclusive peek, is the originality of the concept, equal to the innovation of the Smart in the days of its appearance on the market. According to them, this is a new bench mark in city cars.
The Japanese company is not hiding its pride over the “smallest four seater car in the world”, although edmunds has said it’s only a four seater if the fourth passenger is very small, or a new born child, for example.

It appears that rear passengers of Toyota’s IQ will have to be experts in contortionism to fit into this little car. As you can see from the spy shots, little space has been left for bags and people.
The car is also taking on a 3+1 form with a rear seat specially designed to host one adult and one child. And that’s about it as the length under three metres imposes some difficult choices. I’m not sure I’m that comforted by the brand new rear airbags, although I suppose if I ever do find myself in this car, at least there is a shield against accidents.

The new cars announced by Toyota should be a truly important addition to the forthcoming Geneva Motor Show. On display will be the IQ urban car and the brand new model, the Urban Cruiser. The IQ was first seen in concept form in Frankfurt in September 2007 and time-wise in terms of development it has beaten the Volskwagen UP!, which was displayed only a few stands away at the same show.
Three passenger spaces have been confirmed, despite the length being less than three metres. Also confirmed is the shape of the prototype, with large wheels and a smoother drive. Even though the glimpses we have had of the IQ seem to be similar in concept to the Smart For Two, Toyota insists that the technology, the security and the design research represent an automotive revolution. As of yet, the specification details and performance stats, as well as the pricing have not been released, but we do know that the car will not be available on the market before the end of 2008. As for the engine, on
the Italian site we recently covered a possible collaboration with Yamaha.
The Toyota iQ concept shown at the latest Frankfurt auto show will soon be a production car that will feature several interesting innovations. A really striking one is a new kind of airbag which is designed to protect the rear seat passenger from rear impacts, as revealed by Hiroshi Nakajima, chief designer of the iQ concept in an interview with News.
The Toyota iQ concept features an unusual 3+1 seating configuration, with the back seat positioned just 30 cm from the rear window, in order to obtain more space for the back passenger’s legs. This arrangement required improved protection from rear impacts, to get good results in crash-tests.
Nakajima states that this rear-airbag system enables the iQ to get the five-star EuroNCAP rating for the passenger protection.
