Volkswagen live pics 2010 Geneva motor show

Here are live pics of Volkswagen at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, and a gallery of the 2010 Volkswagen Touareg after the jump. Much like its German counterpart, BMW at Geneva, Volkswagen is focussing on its green credentials for the environment, or blue in this case, with its Bluetec models. The new Touareg Hybrid was on display, for example, which weighs 208 kg less than the original version. With its V6 333 hp engine combined with an electric motor of 47 hp, it should compete directly with the BMW X6 hybrid, and the Audi Q5 hybrid.

Other models on show at the 2010 Geneva motor show from Volkswagen include the Amarok pick-up and the Polo GTI, which is more economical than the previous version despite an increase of 30 hp. The CrossPolo also debuted, which can only be described as a hatchback soft off-road model.

Below is a full gallery of the 2010 Volkswagen Touareg, which could be quite a successful model for the brand in the future. It is roomy, with more luxury internal finishings than the previous generation, and large boot capacity. The Touareg is already available on the German market, costing 50,700 euros for the entry level model, and 73,500 euros for the top-of-the-range Touareg Hybrid. The 4.2-litre TDI V8 costs 70,800 euros. Click on the galleries for more pics.

New Volkswagen Touareg released

By Alison in: Volkswagen SUVs

New Volkswagen Touareg

The new Volkswagen Touareg pics show the second generation model, which will now also be available in hybrid version. The hybrid Touareg has impressive performance figures, with its 3.3-litre V6 and electric motor producing a total of 380 hp and 580 Nm of torque. Other engine options in the range include a 3.0-litre V6 TDI with 240 hp and 550 Nm of torque, which rivals the hybrid in terms of fuel economy.

There’s also the 3.6-litre V6 FSI with 280 hp and 360 Nm of torque, and the 4.2-litre V8 TDI with 340 hp and 800 Nm of torque, which substitutes the discontinued V10 TDI. Overall, the new Touareg is longer and lower than the previous generation, with more interior space, too. It weighs 208 kg less and fuel consumption has been reduced by 20 percent across the range.

The Touareg Hybrid consumes 8.2 litres of petrol per 100 km, while the V6 TDI does 100 km with 7.4 litres. The new Tiptronic eight-speed transmission also helps reduce consumption. A Terrain Tech option is offered with five different options under the all-wheel 4XMotion drive. All models are fitted with the Tiptronic transmission and start-stop technology.

Volkswagen Touareg revealed in scale model pics

By Alison in: Volkswagen SUVs

Volkswagen Touareg scale model spy shots

These Volkswagen Touareg “spy shots” actually show a scale model of the new SUV, which is being planned for a spring debut. The new Touareg will fit the Volkswagen family nicely, with the next generation planned with a front end similar to that of the new Golf and Polo.

Under the exterior, though, the Touareg has much in common with the Porsche Cayenne. On the engine front, we’ll see a new 3.0-litre V6 TFSI unit with 290 hp (from Audi origin), a new 3.0 V6 TDI Euro 6 and a new hybrid version for the environmentally conscious.

It was hoped that the Volkswagen Touareg would see a 2010 Geneva Motor Show debut, but it’s unclear if that will happen. Another alternative, making sense for the US market, would be a presentation at the New York auto show in April. In any case, the Touareg’s commercial launch will take place in the second half of this year.

Volkswagen Touareg loses V8 engine

By Alison in: Volkswagen SUVs

Nuove Foto spia Volkswagen Touareg

These spy shots attest to the fact that planning is going ahead for the Volkswagen Touareg launch, but reports say the car will lose its V8 engine offering as part of downsizing strategy.

The new model will be lighter by 300 kg, and the modifications in style will mostly affect the front end, with rectangular lines and an overall cleaner look. A hybrid version will be introduced, matched to the 3.0 litre TSI V6.

The more hard core offroad elements will be dropped to make way for a car more similar to the Audi Q7. Some of the offroad features will then be available on the options list. The more sports style will also see an addition of a third row of seats in 2011.

Volkswagen Touareg spy shots

nuovo Volkswagen Touareg - foto spia

Here’s the new Volkswagen Touareg spotted without camouflage in its final version, although we still have more than a year before its debut. The new style is on display, including the smaller dimension, and elements similar to the Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7.

Left Lane News reports that we will see a reduction in weight, and that the slightly longer length indicates a third row of (folding flat) seats could be an option. With an overall update in the look, keeping its family feeling but with added sports style, it could also prove to be cheaper.

Volkswagen Touareg second generation spy shots

By Alison in: Volkswagen SUVs

foto spia nuova Volkswagen Touareg

These shots of the Volkswagen Touareg show a compact SUV, that could be the future base of evolutions for the second generation Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne style. Along with a reduction in size, the engines will also show greater environmental qualifications.

While not yet re-working turbo or hybrid technology, the Porsche-VAG group technicians will be focusing on other ways of reducing emissions and increasing fuel efficiency. The chassis should be lighter, for example, with greater use of alluminium inserts. The debut is set for 2010.

Volkswagen to release Touareg Hybrid

By Alison in: Volkswagen SUVs Future Cars Tech

vw touareg hybrid

The Touareg hybrid should be available come next year, according to announcements from Volkswagen. The company will further expand its BlueMotion ecological range with this sports utility, which will add to the ever-widening range of hybrid vehicles available on the market.

The Volkswagen sports utility will be the first hybrid engine vehicle from the company, equipped with a V6 TSI and a 52hp electric motor, for a combined performance of 333hp. A new eight-speed automatic transmission will also feature, resulting in consumption of about nine litres per 100km.

Use of only the electric engine allows for speeds below 50 km/hr, while on full power (or boost mode) performance results in 374 hp and 550 Nm. More additions to the Volkswagen hybrid offering will take place in 2010, with the expansion of the Passat range, including an EcoFuel option of petrol-natural gas combination capable of 150hp and running 100 km with only 4.5 litres of petrol.

A BlueTDI engine will also emerge with 140 hp and consuming only 5.2 litres per 100km. The last engine option in development is the BlueMotion with start&stop technology, saving energy when stopping. All this should see a comprehensive ecological offering from Volkswagen within a year.

Volkswagen Touareg: rendering for new generation

By Alison in: Volkswagen SUVs

The above is a new digital rendering for the second generation Volkswagen Touareg, put together by the guys from Motorauthority.

Their interpretation of the new SUV shows influence from the Tiguan, with a natural evolution of the Touareg in clean lines and no excessive additions.

The influence of Audi in the lights can be seen, but the design still remains undoubtedly that of a VW. The model will present the new platform from VW-Porsche on the base of which the new Porsche Cayenne and the Audi Q7 will be built. The range of engines is unlikely to receive any radical updates, with only the possible addition of a V6 3.0L twin turbo diesel from Audi.
