By Adrian

Subaru Impreza Sport e G4 al Salone di Tokyo

Even though the undisputed stars of the booth are the new BRZ and Advanced Tourer Concept, Subaru also introduced the new Impreza at the Tokyo Motor Show showcasing the two most significant models of the new range: the Impreza G4 and the Impreza Sport. The former is the model that is going to sit at the top of the sedan range, whereas the latter will have the same role for the hatchback line. To celebrate the unveiling, Subaru has released a comprehensive photo gallery that you can access clicking on the link below.

Both Impreza G4 and Sport will be powered by the recent 2.0-litre 4 cylinder boxer unit producing 154 hp at 6,200 rpm, while a 1.6-litre engine will also be made available. Both engines will boast a good fuel consumption and will be coupled to the latest version of Subaru’s continuously variable transmission. The two aforementioned models are hardly recognizable from the ‘regular’ versions, although they will come with a different front grille and a set of 17″ alloys. The new range is expected to appear in Europe in mid-2012.

By Adrian

Subaru Impreza WRX S206

The latest evolution of the famous Subaru Impreza WRX, the S206, will be officially unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in just a few days, and it is likely to be the last version ever of a model that is approaching the end of its commercial life. The Impreza WRX STi S206 will be produced in 200 ’standard’ units plus 100 models equipped with the NBR Challenge package, all of which have already been sold.

In comparison to the ‘regular’ Impreza WRX, the STi S206 features a slightly different bodywork and an upgraded version of the standard 2.0 boxer engine, which boosts the output of the car from 300 hp/407 Nm up to 320 hp/431 Nm. This improvement is mainly due to the new turbocharger, the re-calibrated ECU and some re-designed parts of the engine itself, namely crankshaft, pistons and connecting rods.

The model also uses 19″ alloys fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sports performance tyres (size 245/35 on both axles), braking system by Brembo and Alcantara racing seats. The aforementioned NBR Challenge package tops it all up with roof and huge rear wing made of carbon fibre, 19″ super-light alloy wheels courtesy of BBS and some Nurburgring decal.

Subaru Impreza WRX STi S206

Saburu will present an evolution of Impreza WRX STi at the next Tokyo Motor Show (December 3-11), which will be produced in 300 units that will be available in Japan only. As the name suggests, the S206 belongs to Subaru’s ‘S’ family - following S202, S203, S204 and R205 (S205) models - and will be equipped with an upgraded version of the supercharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine delivering 320 hp and 431 Nm of peak torque, meaning 20 hp and 24 Nm more than the standard unit. This result was achieved through the addition of a re-designed turbocharger, a re-calibrated ECU and a new exhaust system.

Subaru Impreza WRX STi S206 employs exclusive Bilstein shock absorbers, STi coil springs plus flexible tower bar and draw stiffener on the front. The model also uses 19″ alloy wheels courtesy of BBS fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sport. Aesthetically, the S206 is characterized by a new splitter and the re-designed front bumper and grille while rear spoiler and carbon fibre roof can be added with the NBR Challenge Package. Inside there are Recaro sports seats, Alcantara finishing, silver side sill plate with S206 logo, leather steering wheel and shift knob with STi logo and serial number plate on the console.

New Subaru Impreza to debut in Japan on November, the 30th

By Adrian

Subaru Impreza: Salone di New York 2011

Subaru Impreza’s new generation be unveiled in Japan the next November, the 30th. Following the presentation of the new Impreza for the American market (pictured), the most famous model from the Japanese manufacturer is about to debut in its homeland in both hatchback and saloon versions. Just a few aesthetic changes are expected to surface as the two markets abide by different regulations.

In Japan the two new models will be called Impreza Sport and Impreza G4. They are expected to become available in Europe at some point in 2012, right after the official presentation of the European range which, as for now, is likely to happen at the next Geneva Motor Show. Impreza’s hatchback version shares the same platform with Subaru’s new crossover, the XV, recently showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The more country-looking aesthetitcs and higher ride height of the letter should be the only significant differences between the two models.

Both Japanese and European versions of the Impreza will also share the whole engine range with the XV: the 1.6 and 2.0 four-cylinder boxer petrol engines will come with CVT Lineartronic automatic transmission and Start/Stop system - here called “Auto Start System” - while a 2.0 diesel boxer engine will also be available.

Ken Block drives the Subaru Impreza

By Alison

Ken Block and the Subaru Impreza look like quite a lethal combination in this video. In a display of pure Impreza acrobatics, we see the Subaru Impreza STI prepared by Crowford at 566 hp in a little industrial set rally car drive. With plenty of wheel spin and drifting going on, the top-notch video editing is part of the package. It looks like hard work though…

Subaru out of rally world championship: rally world loses legend

By Alison

Subaru Impreza WRC 2008

The news that Subaru has withdrawn from the world rally championships is truly incredible, in fact it’s almost shocking. The image of the Japanese company is so linked to rally competition it’s hard to imagine a WRC without a Subaru Impreza whipping its way around the tracks.

The reason for the withdrawal has been put down to the world economic crisis which is currently having an effect beyond expectations if companies like Subaru pull out of their flagship racing competitions. In the words of Prodrive chairman, David Richards: “Subaru’s departure from the World Rally Championship is a great loss as it is one of the sport’s icons. The Subaru World Rally Team has created true champions such as Colin McRae and Richard Burns and its absence will be felt by many the world over.”

Let’s hope the crisis gets itself over with and we can see Subaru back in the dirt, showing what rally car driving is all about.

Subaru at work on the Impreza GT and a power update for the WRX

By Alison

subaru impreza wrx sti

The Subaru Impreza Model Year 2009 will benefit from a series of important updates that won’t be limited just to the look of the car. According to a document that has escaped from under company lock and key, in addition to the improvements in performance on the current series, we could also see a new version, called Impreza GT that will be equipped with the 2.5 turbo from the WRX STI in a real power step from the 225 hp.

This version will be equipped with automatic transmission, different from the WRX MY 2009, although the latter will see a jumpo in power, gaining 40 hp and therefore reaching a total of 265hp all up.

The renews WRX will see some improvements in the suspension, a look inspired by the WRX STI, a new aerodynamic kit and dedicated wheels. The intention behind these two sports versions is to provide some competition for the Lancer Ralliart Sportback, which will be presented at the the Paris show.

New version of the boxer diesel Subaru at 200 hp

By Alison

Subaru Impreza WRX STi

Subaru has in store a nasty version of the Impreza, equipped with a diesel engine capable of 200 hp output, which is 50 more than the more normal boxer presented recently.

Prodrive of Banbury is behind the development, according to reports from Channel4Car. The Japanese hatchback has a strong point in its sporty attributes (225 km/hr, 0-60 mph in less than seven seconds), with performance and consumption comparable to the best common rail examples currently available.

The name will probably remain as RS so as not to infringe on the WRX STI range. Unfortunately we will have to wait until next year for sales. Until 2009, as regards a diesel, we will have to satisfy ourselves with the powerstep at 150 hp.
