BMW M5 teaser video part two

By Alison

A snow-covered BMW M5 would be the right way to tease the expected driving prowess of the 5 Series M version, and here is the next M5 video teaser to do just that. Kay Segler says it’s “a bold business car [that] at the push of a button, you have a sports car”, and it seems BMW is going down a similar path to the BMW 1 Series M by running some kind of a competition for M fans. In any case, details are at M-Power.com.

Meanwhile, we like this new BMW M5 teaser video which shows off some of the driving style. The new model replaces the 5.0-litre V10 aspirated unit with the new 4.4-litre V8 twinturbo engine which has already appeared on some BMW models. We could see this spiky business car get to 600 hp. Can your briefcase handle it? We’ll be seeing the M5 preview concept at the Shanghai Motor Show in April, and the production version at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

BMW M5 first teaser video

By Alison

Have you ever felt like a deer in the headlights? You might do after seeing this BMW M5 “teaser” video. Less a teaser and more an extremely fleeting glimpse of a pair of headlights coming our way down a dark tunnel, it anticipates the BMW M5 sedan we’ll see in the future. Previous reports indicate that we could see a preview version at the Shanghai motor show in April, while the production version will be revealed at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Citroen DS5 spy shots

By Alison

Citroen DS5 spy shots

Here are spy shots of the new Citroen DS5, the third model in the DS line-up to be released after the DS3 and the DS4. While the DS3 is a three-door, hot-hatch model, and the DS4 is more of a five-door, crossover hatch, the DS5 should develop the crossover theme on an estate platform. The company has previously described this as a “luxurious grand tourer”, proving that the DS range didn’t have to stick to the original roots of the eclectic and hot little DS3.

The DS5 will use the Citroen C5 platform, although some departures in design are expected including a higher ride height and a more coupé-like shape. The DS5 will mark a significant evolution in the DS range, and will be different from the previous two models, which share similar design philosophies and target markets. Some elements of the new model will be borrowed from the Citroen Hypnos concept, in the goal to create a vehicle that will stand out from any other when in traffic.

The Citroen DS5 should use the Hybrid4 diesel-electric drivetrain with a front-end engine of 200 hp and a rear electric motor of about 37 hp. While we’ll see the final production version of the DS4 at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in March, the DS5 will be first revealed at the Shanghai motor show in April, with a European production debut planned for the Frankfurt show later this year.

Citroen DS5 to get 2011 debut?

By Alison

Citroen DS5 rendering

The Citroen DS5 could be revealed as early as the Shanghai motor show in April next year, in the guise of a concept model, before getting its official production-model debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, according to French publication L’Automobile Magazine. Apparently the DS5 is currently project-named the B81, and will take the form of Citroen’s new crossover model.

It should be shorter and higher than the C5 Tourer, measuring 460cm long and will most likely have a comfortable, five-seater interior and a minimum boot capacity of 450 litres. That’s quite technical stuff for what hasn’t been officially announced, but it makes sense for Citroen to be expanding its C5 range now and to develop its DS range as well. Apparently the DS5 will be based on the C-Sportlounge concept of 2005, but we’d expect something more modern and in keeping with the new DS badge to turn up.

Reports regarding the engine range are already emerging, with the 1.6 THP available in both 156 and 200 hp, accompanied by the 2.0 HDi with 140 or 163 hp, and the 2.2 HDi with 204 hp. A Hybrid4 all-wheel drive model should be available in the future, using the 2.0 HDi powerplant with an electric motor to achieve about 200 hp. The Citroen DS5 should cost about 27,000 euros. According to the French reports, its debut is being pushed ahead before the Citroen DS3 Cabriolet, which we could see appear in 2012.

Citroen is being careful with its release of the cabriolet so as not to hinder the sales of the three-door DS3 hatchback. The cabriolet model was originally planned for next year, but is being moved to 2012 instead. It should prove to be a traditional cabrio with a classic, soft top roof and not a folding metal piece. The latter will likely be reserved for the Peugeot 207 CC and the PSA group doesn’t want to overlap the models. The rendering above comes from the AutoJournal mag.

Citroen Metropolis concept at 2010 Shanghai auto show

By Alison

Citroen Metropolis

The new Citroen Metropolis concept will be presented at the 2010 Shanghai motor show on May 1st. The large sedan prototype has been designed by Citroen’s Shanghai design centre, but although a luxury vehicle, it still has an ecological focus. It’s a very large sedan (over five metres long), likely to appeal to the Chinese market, but no production plan has yet been revealed.

The futuristic Metropolis concept is equipped with a hybrid plug-in system which produces just 70 g/km of CO2 emissions, according to Citroen. It’s quite a novelty for the PSA group and has an innovative system based around a 2.0-litre V6 petrol engine with 272 hp and a dual-clutch, seven-speed transmission. The electric motor has a constant power output of 55 hp, with a peak output of 95 hp.

Other features of the Citroen Metropolis include 21-inch wheels, 265/35 tyres, and a platform based on that of the Citroen C6. In overboost phase the car can rely on 460 hp and 430 Nm of torque. It has all-wheel drive but it’s not known whether it’s the same Hybrid4 system seen recently. See the video after the jump.

Porsche Panamera new production details before debut

By Alison

Porsche Panamera_official

Porsche is perhaps overstretching itself a little in the most recent press release on the Porsche Panamera, titled “a message to the whole world”. After this rather ambitious statement, we will soon see the Panamera debut at the Shanghai motor show on April 20.

There is probably no need for Porsche to reiterate its choice of Shanghai as the location of the debut, as with this new model, it’s evident they have made an intelligent choice. Porsche has pronounced that the Panamera will inspire fans of both sports and luxury models, and in so doing, should cover off an extremely vast market.

Confirming the success of Porsche in China, are the 7,600 models sold in the last year, meaning that even the most doubtful could be convinced that a move from Europe to Asia for the presentation is a clever manoeuvre. Of the 20,000 Panamera models planned for production, most will be sold in China.

The model will produced in the same facilities as the Porsche Cayenne, and will reach the first stage of production by September 12th, with debuts in Europe, South America and some Asian nations, before October sees North America, Australia and a final show down in China in 2010.
