You’d think with the 2010 Paris Motor Show not far away French car manufacturers would be busy polishing their vehicles for their local show, but an interesting press release yesterday afternoon showed that Peugeot is still sensible enough to realise the importance of the Russian car market, while Renault has also been busying itself with the presentation of its Latitude model.
The Paris show starts on October 2nd and while the Moscow International Motor Show is underway right now, starting on the 25th and finishing on the 29th of August, French car companies have shown that this market may be just as important as their local one. Peugeot is debuting two new models and three concept cars at the show, starting with its Peugeot 3008 crossover model.
The demo 3008 Hybrid4 is also present at the show, while the Peugeot RCZ is introducing the new brand image and design direction of the company to the Russian public. The Peugeot 308, assembled at the Russian plant in Kaluga, is also present at the Peugeot stand at the Moscow motor show.

This Volkswagen Polo is headed for the Russian market and will be presented at the upcoming Moscow motor show. Sold as a Polo sedan in Russia, it will head to other markets as the Volkswagen Vento model, which we saw recently in some Vento spy shots. In Russia, it will represent the only Polo model, as the Jetta and Passat models are already market leaders, and this additional sedan rounds out an attractive offering in that market.
This Volkswagen Polo will be produced in Russia and will be launched at an equivalent price of about 10,000 euros. It will have a 16V 1.6-litre engine with 105 hp, and can be ordered with either a five-speed manual gearbox, or a six-speed Tiptronic transmission. The Polo comes with three kits: Trendline, Comfortline with ABS or the more luxury Highline, complete with ESP and side airbags.
Here are teaser shots of the Marussia B2, the Russian supercar to be presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week. It will appear alongside the first Marussia car currently undergoing production, the Marussia B1. The latter first appeared last year and is a hybrid supercar that will be on the market next year, although it can be ordered for about 100,000 euros. More news to come.

British car show Top Gear is really going international. After the Top Gear Australia debut, the Russian version has now been confirmed. If we needed any indication that Russia is the next big car market, this could be it.
It’s unlikely, at least we hope despite the photo, that Top Gear will fall into the trap of a stereotypical depiction of Russia. This big country is waking up, and the production team is offering a first series of 15 episodes, to start at the end of 2008.
Local presenters will be employed, and the English firm will be present only as special guest. Apart from these differences, the same studio style and road tests will be employed - could this be the next playground for rich Russians wanting to try supercars…?
