Renault releases 3 naughty video promos for the new Twingo

By Adrian

Renault Twingo restyling

Renault releases three half-minute long video commercials for the restyled Twingo, which will hit the showrooms in just a few days. Sharing the same “Times have changed. The Twingo too” slogan, all three videos have been created by Renault’s advertising partner Publicis Conseil (which uploaded the videos in its youtube page) and are as entertaining as they are cheeky: check them out after the jump.

The 2012 Twingo will come with the following engine options: a 1.2-litre TCe delivering 100hp, a 1.2-litre 16-vavles unit delivering 75 hp and a 1.2 dCi diesel engine available in 75 and 85 hp power steps. All the audio systems in the New Twingo range will feature Bluetooth functionality and audio-streaming with USB connectivity as standard.

Renault Twingo 55 FBG by J.C. de Castelbajac (video)

By Adrian

A while ago we published a post about four artistic renditions of the new Renault Twingo made with the input of four big names in their respective area of expertise. One of them was the Twingo 55 FBG, the outcome of the cooperation with fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, who tried to make a presidential vehicle out of the restyled French city car.

In the footage above, Mr. de Castelbajac himself explains the rationale behind the concept that led to the creation of the Twingo 55 FBG, also giving us the chance to take a better look at its lavish interior. Check it out.

Renault presents four artistic renditions of the Twingo

By Adrian

Renault Twingo 55 FBG, Goes Pop, Scabin Pasta e Sala Lettura

Just a few weeks ahead of its debut on the market, Renault introduces four artistic interpretations of its re-styled Twingo, inspired by four well-known names in their respective area of expertise: meet ‘Twingo 55 FBG’, ‘Twingo Goes Pop’, ‘Scabin Pasta Twingo’ and ‘Twingo Wagon-Lire’.

The Twingo 55 FBG has been created with input from renowned fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, and is meant to represent a presidential car. This model uses a particularly serious matt black paintjob for both bodywork and wheels, which creates quite a contrast with its very shiny and luxurious interior, characterized by golden finishing and trim, superior fabrics all around and classy vintage furniture (a chair, a sofa and a table) instead of the usual two rows of seats. Also worth mentioning are the chandeliers that provide light to the cabin, the white stripe on the tyres’ shoulders and the mandatory presidential flags on both sides of the bonnet.

Twingo Goes Pop is the outcome of the cooperation with British recording artist Nicola Roberts, who conveyed on the car three of her passions: music, fashion and coffee. The rear seats have been replaced by a mobile recording studio inclusive of sound mixer that can only be accessed through the hatch, with fashion magazine covers papering the sides and a coffee machine right on the top of it. The dashboard instead has been transformed into a massive makeup case. Other remarkable features of the Twingo Goes Pop include blingy microphone, headset and hair dryer, the creator’s logo on the headrest and, well, a blue paint job. Click on the ‘Continue reading’ link below the thumbnails to find out about ‘Scabin Pasta Twingo’ and ‘Twingo Wagon-Lire’.

2012 Renault Twingo restyling

By Adrian

Renault Twingo restyling

Renault Twingo just underwent its mid-life restyling, and the outcome is somewhat anticipating the visual style that the French manufacturer is planning to adopt for most of its future models. Renault just released a bunch of new pictures of the model that give us an all-comprehensive overview of the model and of its aesthetic approach, although it is quite clear that the re-designed front end is the area that shows the most evident effects of the make-over. Unlike its predecessor, the new Twingo range also offers a number of options for its customization, a move that was probably prompted by the various accessories available for such models as Mini, Fiat 500 and Citroen DS3, which surely owe some of their success to that.

The new Twingo has improved its carbon footprint too: better aerodynamics and some change to the engine range allow the 1.5 dCi version to consume as little as 3,2 l/100 km, with CO2 emissions of 85 g/km. At the other end of the Twingo range there will still be the more sporty RS and RS Gordini versions, while in between there will be the confirmed naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol unit and its supercharged TCe variant, producing 75 hp and 100 hp respectively. The revamped Twingo should hit the showrooms in early 2012.

Renault Twingo restyling

By Alison

In this very feel good video (with a kiss and all!), we get our first look at the new Renault Twingo restyling. The model will be presented at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show next week as the final version of the Twingo before a significant overhaul of the model occurs in the future.

This Twingo restyling shows a totally new front end and redesigned rear lights. On the inside, the interior is likely to receive only minor upgrades. The engine range should remain more or less the same as the current lineup, including the 1.2-litre unit with 75 hp, the 1.2 TCE with 101 hp and the 1.6 RS with 133 hp. Diesel models include the 1.5 DCi in two powersteps: 75 and 85 hp.

2012 Renault Twingo first official pic

The first official pic of the new Renault Twingo restyling has been released on Twitter, and here we get it in bright pink - fuschia is probably the right term. So much for appealing outside the female market with the first pic, the new 2012 Renault Twingo will be revealed at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

More of a facelift than a complete restyling, the new citycar will have the same engine range as the current lineup and likely even the same price. It should introduce a few new styling cues which we will also see across the entire future Renault range. More to come in September.

Electric Renault Twingo to arrive in 2014

By Alison

Renault will expand its ever-growing electric vehicle line-up to include an electric Twingo model in the future. According to reports, the Twingo Z.E could appear as early as 2014 and will join other electric vehicles such as the Kangoo Z.E and the Fluence. The latter is being released this year and should have pricing starting at about 26,000 euros a year.

In the future we will also see the Renault Zoe released. It will probably be ready for a mid-2012 launch and could be the more popular among Renault’s electric offering. It will be a small hatch model, about the size of the Clio, and while no price has been mentioned, the company has an ambitious figure of about 150,000 models to be sold a year once full production gets underway.

The Renault Twingo Z.E is due earlier than planned thanks to an agreement with Daimler to develop jointly a new platform for the model. The compact citycar is popular in itself, and we’ll be interested to see how an electric version fares, especially with regards to pricing.

Renault Twingo restyling at Geneva 2011

By Alison

Renault Twingo 2010

The new Renault Twingo restyling will appear at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show as the company looks to make its way back to the huge success the first generation Twingo experienced. The restyling should prove to be the first example of Renault’s new style language from new designer, Laurens Van den Acker. The new Twingo will have a front end similar to the DeZir concept which will appear to much excitement at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

The restyled Twingo is set to be officially presented in March 2011 at Geneva and should go on sale in summer next year. At the end of 2011 will we see the Megane get a restyling, which should continue the gradual adoption of the new Van den Acker DeZir concept design. The fourth generation Renault Clio will emerge in 2012 as the first fully fledged new design, building on the elements that will be incorporated into the Twingo and Megane.

Renault Twingo Gordini interior pics

Renault Twingo RS Gordini interior

Here’s a look at the interior of the new Renault Twingo Gordini model, which continues the French racing blue theme with white stripes on the inside, too. The blue and white theme can be seen on the steering wheel, gear stick, seats and car mats.

Most of the finishings are in leather, and the Gordini logo is included on the seats, head rest and door panels, which continue with the white stripes. Overall it’s a nice look, and as far as I can make out, the dash and central panel are the same as the Renault Twingo RS. Given what was pegged as the great rebirth of the Gordini tuning brand, frankly I was expecting a little more. It’s not displeasing, just a little underwhelming perhaps (I’m sold on the alloys, though - very nice!).

Renault Twingo Gordini RS pics

By Alison

Renault Twingo Gordini RS

These Renault Twingo Gordini pics show the brand new Gordini revival pocket rocket, with its classic blue tint and white racing stripes. If you’re in Paris, you can check it out at the Renault shop on the Champs-Elysées, where it’s part of Renault’s “Christmas in Blue” exhibition.

The Renault Twingo Gordini RS is equipped with a 1.6-litre petrol engine with 133 hp and a specially tuned engine pitch. It features a sport chassis and 17-inch wheels, and inside it has classic Gordini quilted effect leather seats. The Twingo Gordini will be available for order from February next year, and on the market around Europe from March. The Twingo Gordini RS will be a part of the Twingo range that still includes the Twingo RS. The former is designed as the most exclusive and sporty of the Twingo offering.

No performance figures have been released, so it’s hard to say whether this is a genuine sports offering on top of what you can already get with the Twingo RS, or whether it’s just a blue paint job and some interior leather. The Twingo RS is also equipped with the 1.6-litre engine and 133 hp. It also shares the same Renault Sports chassis and 17-inch wheels. The RS performance figures are 0-100 km/hr in 8.7 seconds and 201 km/hr.

We think the Twingo Gordini will be just the same, except that there’ll be a blue flash and a couple of white stripes coming down the straight. Which means that a paint job might not be enough to compete with the likes of Abarth, which is what I had understood part of the project was about. So until further notice, let’s say the RS is the tuned part, while Gordini takes on the looks department.

Renault Twingo RS light gives life to Twingo R1 and R2 rally versions

By Alison

Renault Twingo RS

Renault will present the Twingo RS Light special version with reduced weight, which will become the basis of the rally versions of the car. The Renault Twingo RS Light has no air conditioning, additional air bags and other accessories which make it lighter and bring the price down to about 14,500 euros.

The R1 and R2 rally versions will be developed from the Renault Sport Light and will be ready in March next year. The R1 has a rally kit costing 10,000 euros and has a shorter shift, roll bar and some mechanical touch-ups to reach 140 hp. The R2 will have sequential Sadev five-speed shift, ZF autobloc differential, Marelli electronics, Ohlins shock absorbers, larger brakes and a 160 hp engine. This kit costs about 30,000 euros and the Twingo R2 will debut in December at the Monza Rally in Italy.

Renault Sport Twingo Gordini revival

By Alison

Renault Sport will be directly involved in building the Renault Gordini revival, a first model of which will be made at the Dieppe workshop of the company. The first Gordini to be built will be based on a Renault Sport Twingo model and should make its appearance soon.

Renault Sport will build the Gordini Twingo with the classic blue livery and white stripes, to bring back a tuning version that should rival Abarth and John Cooper Works. The Gordini Twingo model is likely to include far more than just an external paint job, but there’s no news on what technical innovations may be coming our way.

Initial reports had indicated that a Gordini Twingo would be available in 2010, with the full revival of the Gordini brand occurring by 2012. We’re getting a little twitchy at the idea of another nifty European city car getting the tuning treatment. Move over Abarth 500!
