The new Renault Koleos will debut at this week’s 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, with sales starting next month. It will be Renault’s updated attempt at its Koleos SUV which will be available in both two-wheel and four-wheel drive versions. The all-wheel drive technology is a joint effort from the Renault-Nissan partnership, and the Koleos will come with either a 2.5-litre petrol engine or a 2.0 dCi diesel.
The petrol has 170 hp and the diesel comes in two powersteps of either 150 or 175 hp which marks a solid offer on the European market. Renault is using a new ESM (Energy Smart Management) system which uses new aerodynamics to reduce CO2 emissions. The 4×2 Koleos has an average fuel consumption of 5.7 l/100 km and CO2 of 148 g/km. The 4×4 models have an average fuel consumption of 6.4 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 166 g/km.
The new model offers a spacious boot with an extra storage space for smaller objects of 70 litres. On the inside we get Carminat Tom Tom Live navigation, twin-zone air conditioning, Bose audio system and Hill Start Assist. EuroNCAP reports a safety rating of five stars. More live pics from Frankfurt to come this week.
The ugly duckling didn’t become a swan through a simple restyling, but Renault have done their best with the
new Koleos facelift, borrowing some help from Samsung along the way. The new Renault Koleos therefore gets a new front end which looks more like a Ssangyong Korando than a Megane, but it should be enough to get it through to the next generation.
The Koleos only gets a style update at the front, in the mirrors and the front headlamps, and a new Cayenne Orange colour has been introduced. Austral alloy wheels complete the new look. The engine range insludes two diesel options - the two-litre dCi in two powersteps of 150 and 175 hp. The first powerstep is a two-wheel drive model with 148 g/km of CO2 emissions, down from the 165 of the previous model. The 175-hp version also has a CO2 reduction from 174 to 166 g/km.
The Nissan all-wheel drive system remains the same, while the safety features get a five-star rating on the EuroNCAP scale. The Koleos has a large boot with 450 litres of space and plenty of other storage nooks on the inside for another 70 litres of room. The Koleos restyling will debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The Renault Koleos will soon get a facelift and a preview shot of the Koleos was briefly presented to a select group of Indian press at an event for the Renault Fluence in New Delhi. Thanks to the quick reflexes of Shrawan, Indianautosblog got these first pics of the Koleos restyling to appear on international markets later this year. The rear of the new Koleos looks like it pretty much stays the same, while we get some updates to the front with one grille and more compact, sleeker headlights.
The Renault Koleos for the Indian car market shouldn’t change much from the European spec vehicle, proving again how important the market is for international automobile manufacturers. In an example of the added purchasing power of this market, the Koleos should also have similar specs and options on offer, not downgraded features of the European car.
The model is part of a trio of updated Renault Group models to hit the Indian market in the coming months, getting a Renault-branded Dacia Duster and unnamed sedan as well. The Koleos restyling could appear in Europe at the upcoming 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and it could prove to be the swansong as they consider replacing it by 2013 with a totally new model developed on a Nissan platform.
The Renault Captur Concept will be an important model for the company, heading for production as the French take on a Nissan Juke. While we’re not convinced the Renault line can support three SUV models, AutoExpress had originally reported that the Captur would go to production as a compact SUV, and another two models based on the Nissan Qashqai would be developed.
In this video we hear plenty of the Renault Captur’s engine: a 1.6 dCi with 160 hp and 380 Nm. The compact crossover could prove quite popular and so Renault is apparently planning the two larger models to expand the range upwards. While many components will be borrowed from Nissan, it seems that the French company will use this 1.6 diesel engine with 130 hp, and add the 160-hp twin turbo unit as well.
The model is important in itself, but would also seem to demonstrate that Renault has got some design inspiration back (through new design head Laurens Van den Acker) and will start competing in segments it previously left to the competition, moving away from its failed Koleos experiment. The new Renault SUVs should keep the flowing lines seen on the concept model, but we’ll be interested in checking out a less exaggerated production version when it’s ready.
The Renault Koleos wasn’t exactly the best entré to the SUV market that the company could have had, and reports have emerged that a new compact Renault crossover is being developed. It seems that any car manufacturer worth its salt these days has got to have at least one SUV or Crossover in its line-up, and so Renault will create a new model to participate in this very fashionable segment.
Renault Manager Patrick Pelata revealed the new project in an interview with German magazine Automobilwoche. He says the new model will be smaller than the Koleos (which measures 452 cm long) and that it will be entirely designed and developed in France, unlike the Koleos which came from Samsung design.
This shows a savvy approach to the new SUV design which will need to be decidedly more European to be more successful in this market. No further details were released although expectations are that the new Megane will also form the platform for the crossover. We’ll have to wait for more news to see when this new model might be ready for debut.

Drive magazine has taken a look at some of the best vehicles for the snow, but which have enough city and off-road features to keep people happy, and looking good in both urban and and off-road settings.
Some of the usual “lifestyle” vehicles and faux off-road models such as the Audi Q5, Renault Koleos, Land Rover Freelander or Volvo XC60 may suit for snow and ice driving condictions. Audi and Volvo often come across with some of the best AWD options, having sedans, hatchbacks, wagons and offroads throughout the range which can give you all the four wheel effect you want.
But which are the cars that really stand out? There are a few surprises in the list, which includes: the Mazda3 (for its stability control), the Nissan Dualis, Volkswagen Tiguan and the Subaru Liberty/Outback. In fact, given Subaru has all wheel drive across its range, any old one will do. The Audi A6 allroad wagon gets itself on the list, as does the Volvo XC60 and the Lexus RX350.

Three new SUV’s from Renault are on the way. The first, available next June, will be the Koleos, the French-Korean SUV developed in conjunction with Samsung and presented recently.
Renault design manager Patrick Le Quement, stated on Autocar that the company would be looking to expand its offering with another two new SUVs and that the Koleos will remain at the centre of the range. One of these cars will be an addition to the Renault range, one will be a big brother to the Koleos and will likely use a similar platform to the future Nissan Murano. This will also be produced by Renault-Samsung in South Korea.

The Renault Koleos has been 10 months in waiting while the french carmaker has been perfecting the look, lavishly decorating the interior, and awaiting an engine that will be up for the job. Fast forward to today and we discover that Renault will finally unveil their new SUV at the forthcoming Geneva Auto Show next month. Going by the name of Koleos, it will be the European version of a Nissan aided design developed in a joint venture with Samsung in Korea.
The Koleos’ car-length (4.52m) and shape will remain identical to its Korean cousin, even if from the aspect of the photos there seems to be a sort of stylistic imbalance: the alloy rims look too small for the wheel arches whilst the view from the back leaves some doubt as to the width to height proportions. The engine line-up will include two power-steps of the 2.0L turbodiesel engine, at 150 hp (320 Nm) and 175 hp (350 Nm) and the petrol 2.5L which will have an output of up to 170 hp.
