Peugeot RCZ live pics Geneva 2010

The Peugeot RCZ coupé was to be the new sports coupé focus for Peugeot, on moving out of the hot hatch segment with canning its GTI badge. While that decision has been partially reversed, we still remained skeptical about this new Peugeot coupé love affair. On seeing these RCZ live pics from the 2010 Geneva Motor Show though, we’re just about convinced that it’s not a bad model after all, and not just the Audi TT rip-off it first seemed.

The RCZ is audacious and original, and should definitely appeal to the French market at least, with their own, home grown coupé on the market. This vehicle is for a customer who isn’t afraid to try something new, without giving up a sports drive.

The Peugeot RCZ has already had a limited release with the RCZ Black Yearling model, and the RCZ Limited Edition model. But it’s finally ready for its spring appearance on the market, as the company turns over a new leaf in its brand image. And if the SR1 Concept was to go into production too, we’ll fast become French fans on this blog.

Peugeot SR1 Concept

By Alison

Peugeot SR1 Concept

The Peugeot SR1 Concept will be presented at the 2010 Geneva motor show, and it just might be enough to help me forgive them for getting rid of the Peugeot GTI badge. The SR1 Concept is part of a total brand revamp that will take place this year, similar to that which Citroen has also been developing.

The SR1 Concept, after the Peugeot RCZ, is a key part of what will become Peugeot’s new brand image, which has already seen a restyling of the Peugeot logo. The SR1 is a kind of futuristic gran turismo, ecological model, with Hybrid4 technology. The entire engine unit is based on a 1.6-litre THP motor with 218 hp, and an electric motor with another 95 hp mounted at the rear axle.

This means the Peugeot SR1 is capable of a total of 313 hp, using only 4.9 litres of fuel per 100 km, and 119 g/km of CO2 emissions. In full electric mode, the car has zero emissions. The SR1 will be an all-wheel drive model, showing obvious gran turismo styling with a long bonnet, but muscly look. The inside of the SR1 features an unusual three-seater layout with a centre console at the front that can move foward to allow the occupants to enter more easily.

The Peugeot SR1 will be just part of an interesting stand from the company at the Geneva motor show, and together with the RCZ, it should mark a new design language for Peugeot. Time will tell whether the direction that is being taken is the right one, or whether Peugeot is losing some of its individuality to follow the coupe, gran turismo fashion.

Pricing for Peugeot RCZ announced

By Alison

The Peugeot RCZ has proved that it has the Audi TT firmly in its sight, with the company releasing competitive prices for its new sports coupe model. The Peugeot RCZ equipped with the 1.6-litre THP petrol engine with 156 hp will have a starting price of just 27,400 euros.

The 2.0-litre HDi diesel at 163 hp costs 29,900 euros and will have different finishes and kits ranging from 500 to 3,700 euros. In summer next year, the top RCZ 1.6-litre THP with 200 hp will be released and will cost around 30,000 euros.

The standard models look as though they will include four airbags, dual zone air conditioning, ABS and ESP, brake assistant, full multimedia capacity including MP3 and Bluetooth, and few other little gems like mirror de-frost and reversing radar. Depending on how many orders come in, the RCZ may not be available for delivery until next May.

Peugeot RCZ Black Yearling also in Italy

By Alison

Peugeot RCZ Limited Edition

We knew the special edition of the Peugeot RCZ, the Black Yearling was coming to Spain, but plans have been made to extend its availability to Italy where market demand is high. Only 100 units of the original Peugeot RCZ Limited Edition that was released after this year’s Frankfurt motor show were to made, of which Italy was to get just three.

Apparently there was a huge request though, and so Peugeot has decided to take the Black Yearling there too, meaning so far only Spain and Italy will see this version. Deliveries should start in spring next year, with the engine options available being the 1.6-litre THP with 156 hp, and the 2.0-litre HDi with 163 hp, costing 32,000 and 35,000 euros respectively. We figure if you get enough friends together and start lobbying Peugeot, maybe you could get a model, too.

Peugeot RCZ Black Yearling limited edition

By Alison

Peugeot RCZ Black Yearling special edition

The Peugeot RCZ Black Yearling special edition will appear only on the Spanish market in a limited run of 75 models. The RCZ matte black coupe is equipped with a 1.6-litre THP engine at 156 hp, with a six-speed gearbox. This is the second special edition of the car that has been released, after the Frankfurt show saw the RCZ Limited Edition presented.

This RCZ will be available only in black, and with have optional extras such as satellite navigator, electric leather seats (also heatable), and parking sensors. It will be available at a price of about 33,000 euros and should be ready in spring 2010. I had almost decided I wouldn’t be writing about the Peugeot RCZ after a tantrum on the axing of my beloved GTI badge, but then I saw this picture and thought maybe it’s not so bad after all…

Peugeot planning RCZ spider version

By Alison

Peugeot RCZ Spider

Peugeot is planning a spider or targa version of the RCZ coupe, which was presented at the Frankfurt motor show last month. The RCZ is based on the Peugeot 308 and has enabled the company to return to a concept car sports coupe which will compete with the Audi TT. An open top version would complete the Peugeot RCZ range, though no official confirmation has been released.

The RCZ spider would likely be an attractive alternative to the coupe, with a fabric roof, though the move would push up the price and eliminate the two rear seats. However, Peugeot has a four-seater cabriolet in the form of the 308 CC which folding metal roof, meaning there could be a place in the Peugeot line-up for a two-seater.

Peugeot RCZ video

By Alison

Here’s the “voyeur” video of the Peugeot RC-Z, when every square inch of car gets scrutinised. The new Peugeot coupé was quite a success at Frankfurt, and together with the Mini Coupé Concept, we wonder if this is a sign of a new era of accessible coupes. More details will surely come, including pricing and pics of the standard version alloys, but so far the market seems to like what it sees.

Peugeot RCZ video teaser

By Alison

Here’s the first video teaser of the new Peugeot RCZ to be presented at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The short video shows an intriguing glimpse at the 2+2 coupé, but we’ll have to wait for Frankfurt for more details. In the meantime, the engine range is said to include a petrol 1.6-litre THP at 218 hp and a diesel 2.0-litre HDi at 170 hp.
