The French have made some very smooth-looking concept cars over the last couple of years, with models like the Citroen Survolt and Peugeot EX1. Peugeot is back at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show with a new concept - a brand new six-seater, plug-in hybrid MPV which takes on recent design language from the brand, such as the Peugeot 508.
On the new Mercedes B-Class being released, we’ve talked of the new battle taking place in the MPV segment, and this good looking HX1 Metamorphosis takes that one step further. Combining Peugeot’s latest Hybrid4 technology, we get a sloping, limousine-like MPV with plenty of space on the inside.
The HX1 Metamorphosis is 4.95 metres long, 1.37 metres tall and 1.99 metres wide. The four-door design is one that opens slightly upwards, further contributing to its limousine looks. Passenger seats are in three rows and the driver gets special easy access treatment with a completely movable steering wheel that can also be adjusted when the car is moving.
Here’s a look at the world’s first production hybrid-diesel car, the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4. The hybrid set-up uses a 2.0-litre inline-four diesel engine with 163 hp to drive the front wheels, combined with an electric motor with another 37 hp at the rear wheels. The electric motor can function independently of the combustion drivetrain and can work on its own at low speeds or to provide all-wheel drive.
Overall the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 provides a total of 200 hp and 500 Nm of torque (of which the electric motor can produce a total of 200 Nm at its peak). It’s the first engine of its kind in the Peugeot line-up and is predicted to equip the Peugeot RCZ in the future as well. the 3008 Hybrid4 will go on sale in 2011 and we should be seeing this impressive little crossover at the 2010 Paris Motor Show - this time in production version.
