Paris 2008: Pininfarina Bollorè concept

By Alison

Pininfarina Sintesi

At the Paris show, Pininfarina will present a prototype of the electric car developed with Bollorè. Equipped with innovative lithium ion batteries created by the French company, the car will have a range of 200km, with recharge complete in eight hours after connection with a normal household power outlet.

The definitive version is expected at the 2009 Geneva show, but the latest indiscretions are that commercialisation will start in 2010. We’re hoping that that the Sintesi prototype from the 2008 Geneva show will be the inspiration for this vehicles, as seen in these photos.

Lamborghini teaser: the third before Paris motor show

By Alison

lamborghini teaser parigi 2008

Lamborghini has released the third episode in its teaser campaign coming up to the Paris motor show. And while fans may have been hoping for something more concrete, the task of identifying what this prototype will be is increasingly arduous.

In this third piece of the puzzle, what we see should be the rear lights, but the press release is coy, saying “the Italian sports car that allows the application of all possible technical solutions”. If we assume this is not an off-the-cuff comment, it still doesn’t give an insight as to what the company is trying to say. We’re sticking with the Urus, sedan-coupè theory until we get some clear ideas as to this new vehicle.

Paris 2008: Abarth 500 esseesse revealed

Parigi 2008: Abarth 500 esseesse ed Assetto Corse

It looks like Fiat will make up for our disappointment with Lancia’s presence at the Paris motor show (showing the Ypsilon VERSUS), with the news that the Abarth 500 esseesse (SS) will be presented. The news comes from the official Abarth blog, reporting that the little 500 pocket rocket will be in attendance.

The Paris motor show will also be a launch pad for the Assetto Corse, which will appear along side the esseesse kit. More updates should arrive soon from Fiat Automobiles, in the meantime have a look at these shots of the new 500.

Lamborghini: inside source confirms new model

By Alison

ruotelambo1

After a bit of kerfuffle over the mysterious Lamborghini to be shown at the Paris motor show, confirmation, indirect but well-founded, has arrived from the company as to the model that will be presented.

While many theories abounded, we finally decided that the DNA of this car was going to be very different from a Gallardo or Murcielago. According to reports from Automative News, the Paris prototype will be a direct rival to the Aston Martin Rapide, though positioned at the top of the range in terms of both prestige and price. The name should be Urus (derived from Uro which was a kind of wild cow in Europe that was extinct in 1627).

The engine will have direct injection and will be smaller than the Gallardo LP 560/4 5.2 litre V10. Power should similar and a V8 solution hasn’t been excluded. The commercial target would be 3000 units, coincidentally the same as the Rapide.

Autoblog.it has also received reports from an employee at Lamborghini, that would confirm the above. It would seem that step by step, the new car is being revealed. Our source added that the engine would be from Audi origin, with twin turbo compressors and would be a front-centre engine. It will also be an all-wheel drive version. Paris seems too far away!

Nissan GT-R V-Spec: get out the stop-watch

By Alison

NissanGTRVSpec

As if the GT-R wasn’t extreme enough, according to Motorauthority, the Japanese have upped the ante with a V-Spec version that’s lighter and more powerful. This could really challenge for the title of fastest car on the ‘Ring, and if we’re lucky, we’ll be seeing it at the Paris motor show.

Up to 100hp have been added to the Spec-V, in addition to a carbon fit-out that will give it an edge in terms of weight. The tuner, Nismo, has worked on this prototype, spotted at the Nurburgring, and the debut of the final vehicle is expect for 2009.

Lamborgini Paris teaser: a Murcielago SV or a sports sedan?

By Alison

Lamborghiniteaser01

More theories on the mysterious Lamborghini model expected at the Paris motor show have emerged, with the guys at Italiaspeed placing their bet for the Murcielago Super Veloce. A reader survey on Autoblog.it resulted with most votes for the theory of a totally new concept, although news is out that the Super Veloce will be produced in a limited series of only 100 examples, with a price of around 382,400 euros.

Inside Lane has come up with a radical theory, but we like it: exploit the Audi A8 platform to create a sports sedan, in competition with Aston Martin Rapide and the Porsche Panamera.

First shots of the Saab 9-X Air, prototype at the Paris show

By Alison

Saab9XAir

It won’t only be the Chevrolet Cruze holding the General Motors flag at the Paris motor show - even if the new Volt should not make an appearance, an imporant concept car from Saab will take the stage. It’s the new 9-X Air, seen in these photos.

The version is based on the Saab 9X, but includes a soft top and a smooth profile. Other details are scarce, but we should get more of a look at the show. Given that it’s at an advanced prototype stage, we have high expectations. After the jump, the second pic.

Paris 2008: Chevrolet Orlando Concept revealed

By Alison

Chevvy Concept

The Chevrolet Orlando Concept which will be revealed at the Paris motor show next month, is a clear signal that the company intends on entering the compact people mover segment.

The series that will be developed will be based on the platform of the new Cruze, and will offer space for seven people, with some enviable flexibility and adaptability.

The body will distinguish itself from the competition through its crossover style, without departing too much from the original segment. According to the company, the interior will be designed for family needs, including luggage space.

The new people mover should arrive with a 2.0 litre turbodiesel at 150hp and 320Nm, which will be the starting base of a range that will include more engine options. This is likely to be a serious candidate to compete against models such as the Scenic, Zafira and company. Have a look at these first images from GM Italia.

Volkswagen Golf VI: official gallery

By Alison

Volkswagen GolfVI

Just about everything is already known of the sixth generation Volkswagen Golf and it will likely be one of the stars of the Paris motor show. Here we give you an extensive gallery of the renewed German hatchback, showing the work of Walter Da Silva, who has taken the Golf back to its minimalist roots.

On the technical side of things, to be noted is the new engine range including a 1.4 litre TSI, new common rail versions already seen on other models, and DSG six and seven speed transmission. These updates have drastically increased fuel efficiency, improved by up to 28 percent compared to the old model.

Ford Kuga: new look and engine at Paris show

By Alison

FordKugaIndividual2

Ford has prepared an update for the Kuga, despite the launch of only a few models on the market. At the Paris motor show an updated version will debut, available in new “individual” packets with a 2.5 litre, five cylinder petrol engine at 200hp. The engine comes from Volvo and is similar to that of the Focus ST and the next generation Focus RS. Capable of consumption of 9.9l/100km and CO2 emissions at 234g/km, this version will exclusively have manual transmission and a speed of around 208 km/hr.

The Kuga look is notable for the new and aggressive front spoiler, with modified grill, chrome details and larger air intake. The rear will have a new spoiler, and lowered base along with 20-inch wheels complete the package. Pearl white colouring is also available, meaning the Kuga will look a bit like the Iosis X Concept, the vehicle preceding the 2006 Crossover.
