According to Autoblog.nl, Nissan GT-R Model Year 2013 completed its lap on the legendary Nurburgring North Course in 7 minutes, 16 seconds and 8 hundredths. If confirmed, the news means that the Japanese supercar did way better than the 2011 version, which stopped the clock at 7 min 24 sec and 022. Besides, this time had already signed a 2 seconds improvement over the previous model.
The 2013 Nissan GT-R uses a reprogrammed ECU with brand new exhaust and air intake systems which boast the power of its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine (used by the current version as well) up to 560 hp. We will be waiting for some official footage documenting the accomplishment and also for the response of its direct competitors.
McLaren just released an official video featuring the MP4-12C lapping the Nurburgring North Course with circuit specialist Horst von Saurma behind the wheel, recording an impressive lap-time of 7 minutes and 28 seconds. The video does not show the full lap.
As pointedly noted by GTSpirit.com, the table on display at the end of this clip is the one used by German magazine SportAuto, which is not the one that is usually referred to as benchmark, provided by website Fastestlaps.com. The McLaren model is credited with a laptime of 7 min 28 sec on both charts while arch-rival Ferrari 458 Italia is credited with a lap-time of 7 min 38 sec on the former and 7 min 28 sec on the latter. It just seems like the never-ending war between these 2 supercars will last forever..
A while ago a twitt from a Chevrolet executive stated that Camaro ZL1 had completed the Nurburgring north course in just 7 minutes and 41 seconds, an incredible lap time that was yet to be made official when the news first came out on a popular social network. The achievement was so astonishing that we just had to report the news, but since no official confirmation was available at the time, we also had to put a question mark at the end of the article’s head title.
A few days later Chevrolet officially confiremed that the ZL1 did actually lapped the Nurburgring in 7:41.27 and released the above video as evidence, featuring Aaron Link showing us how ‘easy’ it was to do better than the likes of Porsche 911 GT3, Corvette ZR1 and Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV. Camaro Performance’s test driver also admitted that the car turned out to be “just perfect”, providing its absolute best while facing the famous Fuchsröhre corners.
Just to put all that into perspective, Camaro ZL1 laptime is 40 seconds better than what the Camaro SS did on the same track just two years ago.

One twitt is all it took to include Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the exclusive club of the fastest sportscars available today on the market, ranking above Porsche 911 GT3 (997 Mk1), Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and Audi R8 5.2 FSI. This is because one GM executive wrote that the most sporty version of the Camaro “lapped Nurburgring in 7.41.27”, which is 52 seconds away from the all time record for road-legal cars but still is a few tenths less than the best lap time from Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV and Porsche 911 GT2.
Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is powered by a turbocharged V8 6.2 litres that delivers 580 Hp and 754 Nm, with either a 6 speed manual transmission or an automatic gearbox with Drive, Sport e Manual modes. However, we will be waiting for an official confirmation of the lap time.
Australian magazine GoAuto published an interview with Porsche’s Project Manager August Achleinter about the new 400hp Porsche 991 Carrera S 3.8 Coupè which, according to Achleinter, has managed to lap the famous Nurburgring North Loop in 7min and 40sec. The lap’s time is not official but, if confirmed, it would make a really interesting result as it would be on a par with the first generation 415hp 997 GT3, which boasts more ‘racing’ tyres and aerodynamics if compared to the the new Carrera S that did the lap with sports suspension, PDK and regular road tyres.
With the new GT3 versions already in the works, the new 991 could achieve even better results on the German circuit (which by now has become a sort of benchmark for almost everybody) as well as in all motorsport enthusiasts’ hearts. It is likely that new models will be equipped with a sporty version of the PDK, which will be more suitable to the needs of the GT series. During the same interview, Mr. Achleinter has also anticipated that the 991 GT3 will make use of carbon fiber - i.e. for the whole roof panel - in order to reduce the overall weight of the car, a job that has meticulously been done already in the passage from the 997 to the 991.

Unfortunately we weren’t among the lucky guests of the BMW M5 Nurburgring “fly and drive” Grenn Hell test drive event of the new M5, and just to rub things in, here is a video of what the chosen enjoyed - helicopter rides, a little drive in the M5 before heading to the legendary Nurburgring to thrash it out on the track. The conclusion? “It’s an astonishing car.” My only gripe is why ‘the chosen’ were all men (meaning I am the first to candidate myself if they ever repeat this with a women’s only drive….please!).

Clearly a Nurburgring taxi is not like other taxis. In this case, we get the new BMW M5 F10 model in a special livery which is more than enough to indicate the speed and power of this supersedan. The BMW M5 Nurburgring taxi was revealed at the M Festival in Germany and should start its rounds with Sabine Schmitz in 2012.
The M5 taxi keeps its 4.4-litre V8 with 560 hp and no technical modifications have been made, meaning we get the same performance specs od 4.4 seconds to reach 100 km/hr, 13 seconds to 200 km/hr and a top speed of 305 km/hr. More pics over on BMWblog.
The Renault Megane RS Trophy hot hatch has set a new record at the Nurburgring and here we see the video of the record lap time of 8′08″. Compared to more powerful, rear-wheel drive models, the 265 hp and 360 Nm of the four-cylinder, two-litre engine from the RS might not seem like much. But this record from Renault Sport is a response to the high horse power contingent, and at eight minutes, it’s a peremptory response at that.
The highly futuristic and aerodynamic Peugeot EX1 Concept has set a new Nurburgring record for electric vehicles. The fully electric track vehicle lapped in 9 min and 1.338 secs which Peugeot claims is a good 50 seconds faster than the previous record. The model was driven by Stéphane Caillet at an average speed of 138.324 km/hr.
The Peugeot EX1 is equipped with two electric motors, one on each axle, producing a total of 340 hp. It was first revealed at the 2010 Paris Motor Show as part of celebrations for Peugeot’s 200-year anniversary.
The Ferrari P4/5 Competizione by Pininfarina and comissioned by James Glickenhaus is just about ready for the 2011 racing season, specifically the 24 hour Nurburgring gruelling race. The P4/5 model is based on the Ferrari F430 Scuderia but has some significant modifications that should make it a serious competitor, including a shell built entirely from carbon fibre.
In this video we can see the P4/5 Competizione in high speed testing on the CERAM track in France, before it heads out on the road for a little Paris nightlife. The car has been impressive from the outset, both in terms of design and technological and we’ll be keend to see just how it fares at the ‘Ring.

The guys at Bimmerfile have been doing the number crunching on Nurburgring lap times from the new BMW 1 Series M, compared to other models in the BMW line-up. According to the report, new 1M does the Ring in 8min 12sec, although we’ve seen more than once over the last few days that M fans had expected an even faster and more powerful model. The 1 Series M has the N54 engine with 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque.
The rub is the M3 comparison figures. The old M3 E46 with its six-cylinder unit and 343 hp laps the Nurburgring in 8min and 22sec, so that puts this ‘entry level’ M faster than the old M3. Compared to the current M3 E92, BMW has made sure that the 1M doesn’t outdo its bigger sister, which records a lap time of 8:05. Its V8 engine has 420 hp, but the model weighs about 85 kg more. A competition version of the Porsche 918 Spyder concept will debut at the 24-hour Nurburgring in 2011. The news comes as the 2010 event is about to close which saw the debut of the first 911 GT3R Hybrid. It was leading the racing until a technical problem forced it to retire.
The 918 Spyder was presented as a concept model at this year’s Geneva Motor Show and it’s equipped with a 3.4-litre V8 engine based on the RS Spyder, and three electric motors. The rseult is a total of 718 hp and some incredible figures: just 3 l/100 km of fuel consumption and 70 g/km of CO2 emissions. It has a top speed of 320 km/hr and can reach 100 km/hr in just 3.2 seconds.
It looks like a market debut for the 918 Spyder is certain and we can’t wait to see it at the classic 24 hr Nurburgring race where it could be more than just a curiosity on the track and every bit a real contender.
