Mopar turns Dodge Viper's V10 into a drag-racing engine

By Adrian

Chrysler’s subsidiary Mopar decided to take Dodge Viper’s already terrifying 8.4-litre V10 and turn it into a drag-racing engine, and the result is an incredible 800 hp/940 Nm unit which is now on display at the 2011 SEMA. Aluminum block and cylinder heads, forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods and forged aluminum pistons are the most relevant features of this engine, which has been specifically developed to compete in drag racing.

Moper also confirmed that Viper’s standard 8.4 litre V10 will be subjected to further developments in order to make several different versions, including one suitable for off-road vehicles. Dodge Viper’s production is currently on hiatus as a new version of the mighty model is currently in the works, but it is nice to know that the heart of the last model will keep on pulsing in different guises.

Dodge to present Durango Tow Hook at the SEMA 2011

By Adrian

Durango Tom Hook

Dodge and Mopar have worked together on a special edition of the Durango, called Tow Hook. The car is easily recognizable by its orange/black color scheme, which feature mostly orange panels as well as shiny black roof, hood and front grille. 22″ two-color alloys and blacked-out lighting also play their parts in providing the Tom Hook its flashy aesthetics.

The car will make use of sports suspension, a 25mm lower ride height and a custom Corsa exhaust system. Mopar took care of the interior as well, sticking to the orange/black theme with the use of black leather and suede and orange trim, stitching and piping. The Durango Tow Hook will be officially unveiled at the SEMA in a few days.

Fiat 500 Titanium and 500 Carbon to debut at the 2011 SEMA

By Adrian

Fiat 500 titanium teaser

Fiat and Mopar will launch two special editions of the 500 at the upcoming SEMA. Unlike many of the cars on display at the Las Vegas event, the two models - renamed ‘500 Titanum’ and ‘500 Carbon’ - will actually become available for the whole American market in the form of two Mopar aesthetic packages, that will have to be integrated to the standard model.

Fiat 500 Titanium (teaser above) boasts a brand new front end, with re-designed grille and bumper. Other distinguishing features are black livery, 16″ wheels, lowered ride height, side skirts, customized braking and exhaust systems and rear spoiler. Besides, it sports handles and wing-mirrors with matt titanium finishing. As for the interiors, the black theme continues with black leather seats, black carmats with Titanium Metallic “500″ logo and black finishing with Titanium Metallic inserts.

The 500 Carbon uses a blue livery, blackened windows, re-designed front bumper - with integrated satin carbon fiber fog-lamp bezels and lip spoiler - and 17″ aluminum rims. Its ride height has been lowered, while air intake and exhaust systems have been modified. Satin carbon fiber door handles and mirror caps complete the exterior look of the car. The passenger compartment is highlighted by Anodized Azzurro accents, and features black leather sport seats, black chrome finishing and an interesting carbon fiber instrument panel.
