Mini Coupe will soon be available in a GP special edition of the John Cooper Works setup. At least this seems to emerge from the spy shots snapped in Germany, where the British sports car, lightly disguised, has been recognised from some features already seen on the John Cooper Works GP hatchback prototype. We refer in particular to the flashy four-spoke alloy wheels and the streamlined setup, which includes a new front bumper and a more aggressive rear diffuser with twin exhaust pipes.
The GP kit presents a racing setup with no back seats, rigid chassis and larger braking system. Under the hood is fitted an advanced version of the famous 1.6-litre twin-scroll turbo engine, whose power should increase to 220hp. The final model will be presented by the end of 2012.

AC Schnitzer presents a first bunch of tuning upgrades for the Mini Coupe. The German tuner is currently still working on more parts to enhance both engine performance and aerodynamics, but in the meanwhile we can have a first look at what’s already available: a limited slip differential for the Cooper S Coupe and a rear silencer with chromed tail pipe trim for both Cooper S and John Cooper Works Coupe and a high performance brake system with 4-piston calipers and slotted discs. Also available are a height-adjustable racing suspension, a stiffer spring kit, an aluminum strut tower brace and a rear axle antiroll bar for the Cooper Coupe.
AC Schnitzer also offers a range of 17″ and 18″ alloys suitable for any type of Mini Coupe as well as a dedicated set of decals. As for the interior, the tuner offers a gear knob with digital gear display, aluminum pedal set, “Black Line” handbrake handle and customized carmats.

Mini USA released a new two-minute long promo video for the Mini Coupe, described as the first two-seater car in the Mini ranks. A while ago Mini USA launched the “The Best Test Drive Ever. Period.” contest, asking to describe in just six words how the best possible test drive should be like, and out of thousands of entries the lucky winner turned out to be Mr.Mathew Foster, from Portland, Oregon, who opted for the following 6 ingredients: Stewardess, Salt Flats, Sushi, Paratroopers and Falconer (a Swedish rock band). Obviously, all six ingredients are featured in the clip.
Mr. Foster and his girlfriend were flown to the bright lights of Los Angeles, where he found himself behind the wheel of a Mini Coupe driving at blistering speeds through the salt flats with a stewardess feeding him sushi, and paratroopers flying overhead. The film made its premiere on Friday, December 23 nationwide on Mini USA’s Facebook page, YouTube channel, MiniUSA.com and in cinemas nationwide.
The fifth model of the new Mini generation to wear the British brand’s famous badge represents a reinterpretation of the super-compact sports car category. The Mini Coupe is the first premium car of its genre, faithfully transplanting the Mini brand’s sporting genes into a cutting-edge vehicle concept. If you want to know more about it, there is the offical press release after the jump.

We wouldn’t have thought the Mini Coupe was quite ready to take on the big guns for the 24 hour Nurburgring race but here we are - the Mini Coupé John Cooper Works Endurance edition is registered in the SP 3T category of the famed Nurburgring race and it will keep its 1.6-litre turbo engine with 250 hp and 330 Nm of torque to do so.
The model is an official Mini factory effort and marks the brand’s debut in the world of 24-hour endurance racing. There’s going to be some fast driving over the weekend, and the Mini Coupe JCW Endurance edition gets an adjustable rear wing to compete, along with a new front spoiler and rear diffusor. Obvious upgrades to the suspension have taken place and structures such as a roll-bar and Recaro racing seats have been added. How will it fare? We have the whole weekend to find out.

This on-board track drive video of the Mini Coupe and Rauno Aaltonen gives us a good idea of how dynamic the new coupe is and just how that go-kart feeling of a Mini has been taken to the next level. The Mini Coupe in question is a John Cooper Works version with some camouflage still present on the “pre-production” versions. Aaltonen, former Finnish rally car driver, knows his driving and his Minis, having gone down in history on winning the 1967 Monte Carlo rally with a Mini Cooper S. His commentary gives us some extra insight into how the new Mini Coupe JCW drives.
Here is the first official Mini Coupe video and it’s a great promotional tool for the new Mini as funky imagery and brassy music abound. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise us at all to find this becomes the next favourite Mini lifestyle around the world. We published the Mini Coupé official pics and details yesterday and we’ll be interested to see this on the road in the future, but won’t hazard a guess as to what quantity.
I’ll admit that I didn’t particularly like the Mini Coupe when it was first shown as a concept - in fact, my words were “the Mini was about as coupe as I ever wanted in the first place”. But still, I’ve got to say that the new Mini Coupé looks quite snazzy in these pics. Finally released as a production model, the coupe should be a new chapter in the Mini story and mark yet another expansion into a new style for the brand which is refusing to box itself into just one interpretation.
Apart from the obvious stylistic changes from a standard Mini to the coupe (include the sloping roof line and two-seater set-up), the coupe could prove to be all about the Mini driving experience, and there’s something to take notice of in that. As an example the Mini Coupé John Cooper Works version will be apparently be the fastest Mini to have been made so far.
Technical features include a rear MacPherson multi-link suspension, aerodynamic retractable wing, and impressive range of engine options. The entry-level petrol engine is a 1.6-litre unit with 122 hp and 160 Nm of torque. It’s followed by the S version with the same engine but with a turbocompressor that makes for 184 hp and 240 Nm. Acceleration gets down to 6.9 seconds and the top speed is 230 km/hr, compared to the nine seconds and 204 km/hr of the entry level unit.
After the Mini Coupe teaser pics, we now get the prices to pour over and frankly, we’re wondering what happened to that famous economic crisis. You know the one where people are risking their jobs and can’t afford to spend silly money on compact premium vehicles? The Mini Coupe prices are as follows:
Mini Coupé Cooper: 23,400 euros
Mini Coupé Cooper S: 27,750 euros
Mini Coupé Cooper SD: 28,750 euros
Mini Coupé John Cooper Works: 33,150 euros
After the jump are the engine details for what you’re actually buying with that money.
According to Mini US chief Jim McDowell, the Mini Coupé and Roadster models first seen at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, will be ready for release in the next two years. The models were originally concept cars but with the interest and success from the show, they were set for production early in the piece.
The Mini Coupé would be the first to appear in August 2011, with the Mini Roadster following in February 2012. The debut date was originally reported as earlier, but the company is giving some space to consolidate the first sales of the Mini Countryman this year. The Coupé, in concept form, is equipped with a 1.6.-litre turbocharged engine with 211 hp, which represents the JCW version.
The Mini Coupé should also appear as a Cooper S 184 hp model, and it’s possible we could also see the standard 122 hp model engine appear at a later date. The Roadster is likely to have the same engine line-up, and both models will be produced at Mini facilities in Oxford.

We’ll have live pics of the Mini Coupe Concept from the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show later on, but here’s the final installment of the Mini teaser concept videos which should see the presentation of the Mini Speedster concept as well. The first and second videos are after the jump. Weird stuff but hey, there are girls in bikinis to keep the guys happy. Stay tuned for live pics.

Here’s a gallery of pics of the Mini coupé concept, headed for the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show for its debut and one big birthday bash. Personally, the Mini was already about as coupé as I cared it to be, but this is one snazzy looking car, and the sloping rear roof-line could be a hint at the future speedster model that some rumours were suggesting.
The lower half of the car has John Cooper Works stamped all over it, while the top half and roofline are really striking. We can’t wait to see this live at Frankfurt. After the jump you will find more pics, the video and the full press release from Mini.
