Latest spy shots dedicated to the Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series, immortalised while tested at low temperatures. This special version of the supercar features a much wider body kit, bigger side skirts and more aggressive aesthetics as well as an overall weight reduction of 100 kg.
The maximum output is expected to reach 650 hp, delivered by an impressive 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine, completely assembled by hand. The prototype shows off extended fenders to accommodate larger wheels and a bumper with generous air intakes to feed the powerful engine with oxygen. The supercar will be available in early 2013 at a price of around £220,000. The SLS AMG Black Series is expected to make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, scheduled for September.
The recent snowfalls that hit Rome in recent days are a quite rare event, and seeing the Italian Capital in white makes it even more unique and evocative. The good people at Mercedes-Benz thought it would have been a great idea to seize the moment and shoot a nice promo video featuring one of its hottest models, and here it is. The star of the clip is the beautiful Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster, which can be seen strolling and playing around the suggestive monuments of Rome in all of its glory.
A few days ago, at the Dubai International Marine Club, Nissan arranged a quite interesting little challenge featuring its much-hyped Juke-R (the model that hosts a GT-R engine in a Juke’s body) and three well-established supercars: the Ferrari 458 Italia, the Lamborghini Gallardo and the Mercedes SLS AMG. This curious race - which took place on a short and narrow course laid out in the streets of Dubai - ended with a quite surprising result, although it must be considered that the particular features of the improvised circuit did not help some of the cars to fully express their mind-blowing potential.
The Juke-R is the outcome of the collaboration between Nissan and specialist Ray Mallock Ltd. and - thanks to the 485 hp of its impressive 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 - is capable of reaching 100 km/h (62mph) from standstill in just 3.7 seconds, hitting a maximum speed of 257 km/h (160 mph). The model is not meant for production and is used as a show car at the various Nissan’s events around the globe.
German firm Inden Design presents its own rendition of the Mercedes SLS AMG. This tuning doesn’t really change the aesthetics of the model, with the exception perhaps of the matt black 20″ alloy wheel set fitted with 265/30 tyres at the front and 295/30 at the back. The standard version of the SLS AMG comes with a 6.2 litre V8 engine credited with an output of 563 hp and 650 Nm of torque, and with the simple addition of a sports exhaust system (with manifolds and catalytic converters) and the recalibration of the electronics, Inden Design managed to boost that up to 623 hp. We agree with Inden Design’s main man Joachim Inden that the SLS and its Gullwing doors do not need any fancy aero-kit to impress, and with such an injection of power it just gets even more sexy.

Germany’s Senner Tuning presents a new tuning program for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Gullwing sports car. In order to enhance the performance of the already impressive standard model, Senner Tuning added a recalibrated ECU, an high performance air-intake set and a stainless steel sports exhaust system, boosting its output from the original 571 hp / 650 Nm (479 lb/ft) up to 660 hp with 690 Nm (509 lb/ft) of peak torque.
The package also includes 20″ Aerotechnik ‘Model Vegas’ alloys with stainless steal exterior panel and wheeldisc in black diamant and an adjustable KW Variante 3 special coilover suspension. New set of rims aside, the only aesthetic modifications are the white pearl paint-job and the carbon sideview mirrors, making this tuning one of the most sober ones we have seen in a while. Which is definitely not a bad thing.

British magazine Autocar was not too sure about what Lamborghini says about the Aventador, and in order to verify the bold statements produced by the Italian manufacturer in regard to its flagship, they decided to arrange a drag-race featuring the 691 hp Lambo and two much cheaper cars that, on paper, would stand no chance against it: Porsche 911 GT2 RS and Mercedes SLS AMG. As usual, we won’t spoil the surprise by telling you what happened: you will have to see the video to find that out.
Mercedes AMG has uploaded a new video on its official youtube page that gives us an idea of what the staff at their AMG Performance Studio in Affalterbach can do to your Merc, in this case turning a SLS AMG from Red to Yosemite Blue and replacing the interior with color-matching seats and trim.
This somewhat chaotic two-minutes long footage shows us the impressive amount of work that is required to do the job properly, and the result is obviously spot-on. We had no doubt about that, though.
Here are the first spy shots of Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series, a more sporty and extreme version of the SLS AMG Coupe. Rumors about this car have been circulating for quite a while, but this is actually the first time that a prototype have been spotted around, and certain aesthetic details leave no doubt about its identity: wider fenders and a modified front-end with much bigger air-intakes that change the aerodynamic balance of the car are the most clear evidence of the fact that this is actually it.
The Black Series can be considered a road-legal version of the GT3 racing model, although a more straightforward road version of the latter has not been ruled out. However, judging by these spy shots, it looks like the only element that does not resemble the GT3 is the fixed rear spoiler, as this mule sports an automatically extending rear wing like the one we saw on the SLS AMG, probably coupled with a more complex and efficient diffuser.
The engine should end up being an enhanced version of the well-known 600hp 6.2-litres V8, and the weight should be less than 1600 kg thanks to work done on all elements of the car. Obviously, suspension and braking system will be upgraded too, while the ECU will boast more aggressive mappings. Although no official confirmation was given on the matter, it is likely that AMG will come up with an optional racing package to get the most out of the Black Series on the track, basically the same sort of operation they did with the C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series.

Aftermarket specialist Hamann presents the Hawk, a tuning of Mercedes SLS AMG Coupe that provides the car with extremely aggressive aesthetics. A new sporty bumper characterizes the front, which also uses a new carbon fiber hood with air-outlets as well as lip-spoiler and other bits made of the same material. Large side skirts and the massive carbon fiber rear wing complete the look of this outstanding rendition of the SLS gullwing, which features rearview mirrors, fuel cap and trunk also made of CFRP.
Under the bonnet pulses an enhanced version of AMG 6.2-litres V8 which now delivers 636hp and a maximum torque of 680 Nm, giving the Hawk a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 3.6 seconds and top speed of 320 km/h. Other notable features are the new exhaust system (featuring four enormous 90mm pipes), sports air filter and a specifically re-programmed ECU.
Hamann Hawk comes with 21” forged alloy wheels fitting 245/30 tyres on the front and 345/25 on the rear. The adjustable suspension offers eight different settings which can lower the car’s centre of gravity by an additional 30mm. As for the interior - where customized Recaro sports seats stand out - Hamann opted for leather and ultra-suede, while all the aluminum bits of the standard SLS have been replaced with even more carbon fiber.

The Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster might have gotten rid of the gullwing doors from the coupé model, but we still think it’s awfully good looking. In these new pics it looks like the AMG Roadster was zipped down to Bavaria for a few pics in front of a castle. The gullwing doors were the impractical but attractive part of the SLS AMG which gave the hardtop model all its charm, but the Roadster is just as good in everything else to make it worthy of its nameplate.
We can’t wait to see whether Mercedes’ gamble to provide the same performance and svelte style on the Roadster as the SLS hardtop will pay off, but we suspect it will. The open-air driving pleasure of the SLS AMG Roadster comes from the same 6.2-litre AMG V8 engine with 571 hp and 650 Nm of torque.
Top speed is 317 km/hr and the Roadster sprints to 100 km/hr in 3.8 seconds. New AMG Ride Control suspension is included, and the space frame aluminium chassis gives rigidity while adding just 40 kg to the coupé model. Beyond that, we think it’s hard to find a drop-top with this same kind of performance and style on the market - check out the new pics below to see just how much Mercedes is showing off its latest AMG pride and joy.
In preparations for the new Mercedes SL-Class we get news that the V12 SL units will be discontinued. That essentially means that the SL600 and Mercedes SL65 AMG will be killed off, but it’s not known whether that move will also include the Black Series edition.
The SL600’s 5.5-litre V12 engine with 510 hp went first from the lineup this year, and the SL65 AMG six-litre unit with 604 hp looks set to follow. With these moves occurring, we can apparently expect the arrival of the new Mercedes SL-Class as a 2013 model year car.
Currently it’s unclear whether this phasing out of the V12 units is just in preparation for the next generation, or if it is a permanent move and they will be replaced with more economical V8 models. Part of the reason would seem to be the expected success of the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster (pictured above) - but we can’t complain too much about that.

AMG has a little coup with David Coulthard as its new brand ambassador if this video is anything to go by. In a fun piece of driving on the Nurburgring track with the SLS AMG, Nico Rosberg takes David Coulthard for a drive, with the latter riding shotgun - Coulthard himself admits he’s not a very good passenger and the joking is off.
With smart little quips and some self-irony, Coulthard shows he’s a great ambassador with a sense of fun and some good humour, too. Check out the funny SLS AMG Rosberg-Coulthard video above.
