Mercedes-AMG and Ducati came together last year when they announced a new cooperation agreement. Besides the AMG logos that are on the factory MotoGP team and being their Official Car Partner, Mercedes-Benz also did a few various marketing and crossover promos with the Italian motorcycle manufacturer, showing off their respective machines and also debuting the Diavel AMG Special Edition.

Inspired by the Ducati Streetfighter 848, Mercedes has decided give their new SLK 55 AMG a special ‘Streetfighter Yellow’ paint job’ to show off at the Bologna Motor Show to continue underscoring the importance of their partnership.

The third generation Mercedes SLK AMG is the first SLK AMG model to use an aspirated engine in a significant evolution on the older generations and their supercharged V6 and V8 engines. The new SLK 55 AMG uses the M157 unit from the more recent 63 AMG models but is “simplified” to 422 hp and 540 Nm of torque.

We get to hear some of that engine sound is this video but it’s more about a beautiful car and landscape (and the guy’s not bad either). Mercedes is closing the gap in some ways between the sportier AMG and more lifestyle versions of its models, providing some significant fuel savings on the previous generation, which the company claims is done 30 percent at 8.4 l/100 km. For that you still get a sprint to 100 time of 4.6 seconds. The new Mercedes SLK 55 AMG will go on sale in Germany from January at a price of 72,590 euros.

The 2012 Mercedes SLK 55 AMG has new, aggressive looks and an engine to back them up. Sporting a redesigned front fascia, new side skirts, rear diffuser and spoiler and an exhaust system with four pipes, this is a good looking cabrio with go-fast capability.

The Mercedes SLK55 AMG gets a new aluminium, naturally aspirated 5.5-litre V8 engine which is good for 416 hp and 540 Nm of torque. It’s matched to AMG’s seven-speed automatic SpeedShift Plus transmission, which gets the car to 100 km/hr in just 4.6 seconds. While the new SLK55 AMG has more power and a top speed of 250 km/hr, the technical crew has kept fuel consumption to 8.5 l/100 km thanks to start&stop technology and an AMG Cylinder Management system.

Other goodies from AMG include torque vectoring, direct steer and three driving modes of Sport, Manual and Efficiency. New brakes measure 360 and 330 mm, and the AMG Handling Package is offered as an optional extra. The interior features Airscarf technology and Alcantara sports seats. The sexy new Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG will debut in 2012.
