Mercedes SLK 250 CDI vs Mercedes C111-II D

Mercedes SLK 250 CDI

Mercedes has released more pictures of the SLK 250 CDI, the first diesel car ever from the SLK series. In these shots the new model is portrayed with Mercedes C111-II D Concept, a car that back in the 70s set the standards for the development of all future sporty diesel engines, standards that are still considered good enough to be embraced by such modern vehicles as the SLK 250 CDI. Just to give you a clearer picture, let’s remember that in 1976 this C111-II D concept beaten or established eight new speed records for diesel cars and travelled more than 10,000 miles at the Nardò racing facility, in Italy, averaging close to 160 mph. Besides, it set the round-the-clock record run for diesel vehicles with an unprecedented 253.770 km/h (157.161 mph) on same track. All that was achieved thanks to its awesome 190 hp 3.0 litre 5 cylinder engine.

Mercedes SLK 250 CDI instead uses a turbocharged 2.1 litre 4 cylinder engine delivering 204 hp and 500 Nm of peak torque, a unit that allows it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds with 243 km/h of top speed. Claimed average fuel consumption for the new SLK is only 4,9 l/100 km, with CO2 emissions of 128 g/km. These are the figures for the model equipped with 7G-Tronic automatic transmission, but a 6-speed manual gearbox option will soon become available as well. The SLK 250 CDI is already available for order.

Mercedes SLK 250 CDI video

By theBride

In this video former DTM pilot Ellen Lohr is at at the Hockenheim track to test the new Mercedes SLK 250 CDI, a car with average consumption levels of 4,4 l/100 km, a maximum speed of 240 km/hr and able to go from 0 to 100 km/hr in 6,5 seconds. The SLK 250 CDI - Mercedes’ first diesel spider - also features the same 2,1 l biturbo 204 Hp and 500 Nm we have seen in other models, which enables this car to offer the same standards in terms of performance delivered by petrol engines. In the video, Ellen Lohr also has the chance to meet up and challenge former DTM opponent Roland Ash, who’s driving a Mercedes 190 E 2.5 16 Evo, but we are not going to spoil the surprise by telling you who wins!
