New Mercedes S-Class: spy shots

The upcoming new generation of Mercedes S-Class is still undergoing its testing stage, as these new spy shots reveal. The car is supposed to make its debut in 2012 and then enter into production with 4 different kinds of bodywork. The first ones to appear will be the long and short wheelbase versions, closely followed by the Coupe CL.

Scheduled to make it s debut in 2014 is the new four-seater convertible - which will be inspired by the Ocean Drive concept - and will use the innovative MRA (Mercedes Rear-wheel drive Architecture): a new architecture made of 93 different modules that will be the ’spine’ of all future rear-wheel drive Mercs. The S-Class W222 will also introduce an innovative flat screen right in the middle of the dashboard that will work as rev-counter, speedometer, on-board computer, sat-nav and infotainment system.

Brabus Mercedes E-Class and S-Class AMG

By Alison

Brabus Mercedes Classe E e Classe S

Brabus has released new design and aerodynamic kits for the Mercedes E-Class and S-Class AMG models. The Brabus accessories can be purchased in any Mercedes dealership as options and include a larger front spoiler, rear extractor and a small spoiler on the boot of the car. All the added components are made from polyurethane.

Other Brabus Mercedes parts can be purchased only from Brabus itself and those upgrades include stuff like the B63 kit with Brabus logos and the above aerodynamic parts made from carbonfibre. The Brabus B63 S-Class and E-Class kit also includes a new electronically adjustable exhaust system with ceramic outlets and silencer valve.

A wide choice of alloy wheels is on offer, including Monoblock style up to 20 inches with larger rims. Various AMG engines are on offer and all the upgrades are available both for the E-Class and S-Class.

Lorinser Mercedes S-Class S70 tuning

Lorinser S70 810-hp Mercedes S-Class tuning

This high class tuning job from Lorinser takes on the Mercedes S-Class. Costing €500,000 the S70 will get an engine with 810 hp - making it a serious super sedan. The Lorinser S-Class should look similar to the one in the photo, with an added Lorinser aerodynamic kit.

The 810-hp Lorinser S70 costing half a million euros has apparently been commissioned by a Chinese millionaire, so this one will be going off-shore from Europe when it gets built. No further details are available on the car at this stage, but given the horse power involved we expect to see something like the AMG V12 twinturbo engine under the bonnet.

Mercedes S350 BlueTec now with Eco Start/Stop

By Alison

Mercedes S-Class new engines

The Mercedes S-Class S350 BlueTEC models now have standard start&stop fuel saving technology. The three-litre V6 with 258 hp and 620 Nm of torque with AdBlue emissions reduction will now already conform to the new Euro 6 regulations to be in place in 2014. With the start&stop system, fuel consumption is at 6.2 l/100 km and emissions are 164 g/km compared to the previous figures of 6.8 and 177.

While it’s difficult to know exactly what that means in real terms, and we sometimes question whether these things are noticed when actually driving, the pressure of the new Euro anti-pollution norms means we are getting more fuel saving technologies on our vehicles. Mercedes also took the opportunity to use a new TWAS (twin wire arc sprayed) construction technology to reduce weight by about four kilos, and is offering the updated model at the same price as the previous S350: on the German market costing €76,517.

Mercedes S-Class coupe spy shots

By Alison

Mercedes S-Class coupe spy shots

New spy shots of the Mercedes S-Class coupe have emerged showing what the replacement to the CL-Class will look like. These pics show a grille which should be different from the production version, as the latter will show off the Mercedes badge more clearly on a single chrome bar.

LED lights will feature at both front and rear, along with LED day lights, and new bumpers will also appear. A redesigned exhaust should be part of the package. An AMG S-Class coupe will also appear as the higher performance version, while the standard version should include the same engine range as the S-Class sedan.

Mercedes S-Class - soon a Bluetec version

By Luca

Mercedes Classe S BluetecAuto Motor und Sport writes that at the next Frankfurt auto show Mercedes-Benz is going to show a hyper-efficient version of the S-Class with a fuel consumption of only 6.6 liters/100 km (15 km/liter).

By rights, a 4-cylinder, “cheap” version of the S-Class should be an unacceptable image risk for Mercedes-Benz, but the drawbacks should be more than balanced by the “green” kudos that such a model will garner. This S-Class should also be the first to have a Bluetec version of the 2.2-liter CDI engine, with a dual stage bi-turbocharger that should result in a maximum power of 204 PS. This engine should be coupled with a mild hybrid system of which nothing is yet known. The Bluetec S-Classs will probably already be Euro6-compliant.

Attentive readers will probably have noted the “magical” number of 204 horsepower: BMW and Audi have already announced 2-liter engines with the same power (BMW with a bi-stage turbocharger that will debut on the 123d, Audi with a single turbo-charger, seen on the Cross Coupè Quattro Concept).
