New spy shots of the Mercedes S-Class coupe have emerged showing what the replacement to the CL-Class will look like. These pics show a grille which should be different from the production version, as the latter will show off the Mercedes badge more clearly on a single chrome bar.

LED lights will feature at both front and rear, along with LED day lights, and new bumpers will also appear. A redesigned exhaust should be part of the package. An AMG S-Class coupe will also appear as the higher performance version, while the standard version should include the same engine range as the S-Class sedan.

The Car of the Year prizes have been dominated by the Germans with many being awarded one of Autobild’s “Golden Steering Wheel” awards. The Porsche Panamera won the luxury car category, beating the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes S Class, while the medium to large sedan category was won by the Audi A5 Sportback, followed by the BMW 5-Series GT and the Mercedes E Class.

Among the compact class, a nice win for the new Opel Astra, beating the Skoda Yeti, which came in second ahead of the Renault Megane. In its sector, the Renault Scenic emerged ahead of the Toyota Verso and Peugeot 5008, and among the small cars the Volkswagen Polo won over the Citroen C3 and Hyundai i20. The Toyota Prius took out the ecological prize, followed by the Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion and the Mercedes S400 Hybrid.

The supercar category was dominated by the new Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing, followed by the Audi R8 Spider and the Aston Martin One-77. The finalists for overall COTY are the Citroën C3 Picasso, Mercedes-Benz E-class, Opel Astra, Peugeot 3008, Skoda Yeti, Toyota iQ and Volkswagen Polo. Take your bets now…

Mercedes has presented the AMG versions of its S Class at the Shanghai motor event, in a kind of show between the Porsche Panamera, Jaguar XJ and Mercedes AMG S Class. Here we give you another set of AMG S Class pics.

In technical details, the new S Class registers a three-percent reduction in fuel consumption and emissions compared to previous versions. It has 525 hp, 630 Nm and reaches 100 km/hr in 4.6 seconds.

Compared to the AMG S63, the S65 has a long wheel, but despite its heavier weight, the 612 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque help it reach 100 km/hr in 4.4 seconds. Other features include the debut of the Torque Vectoring Brake, capable of engaging the brake on the inside wheel for better cornering.

At the next Chinese auto show, Mercedes will present its updated S Class versions 63 AMG and 65 AMG, seen in the gallery below. We can see the usual sought after and elegant sports sedan style in the below pics, still currently unofficial.

The engine options are more than sufficient, with the V8 6.2 litre at 518 hp and more than 630 Nm, and the V12 6.0 litre which has not only more than 1,000 hp, but also 604 Nm of torque. The models will likely appear with a five-speed automatic transmission, while the AMG kit is adapted to the new facelift, with LED headlights.

The Mercedes S Class facelift has been “leaked” with the images of the brochure, though it appears that anticipating presentations with the brochure is becoming common practice. In any case, here is the S Class restyling in all its glory.

The main news, in addition to the limited updates on the bodywork, is represented by the 400 Bluehybrid version, with the 3.5 litre V6 engine coupled with an electric motor. The latter has 20 hp, as part of the overall 299 hp and 385 Nm of torque. Fuel consumption sits at a mere 7.9 litres per 100 km.

These latest spy shots of the Mercedes S Class restyling arrive from Sweden, prior to an expected presentation of the new look sometime in 2009. In particular one of the models photographed here is equipped with the S 400 BlueHYBRID engine, the first production series Mercedes hybrid with lithium ion batteries.

Mercedes is likely to be focusing more on the E Class next year, but the rest of the range should still get its moment of fame, as seen in this S Class facelift. The modifications are mostly reserved for the headlights, though the interior should also receive a few touch-ups. The debut in dealerships is set for the second quarter of 2009.

Carlsson has managed with the Carlsson Aigner CK65 RS Blanchimont, an exclusive model based on the Mercedes S Class, and available at the price of 464,100 euros. Created together with Aigner, leader in high quality leather finishes, the CK65 RS is equipped with a V12 twin turbo, taking its performance to supercar levels. It can reach 100 km/hr in 3.9 seconds, and has a maximum speed of 320 km with 1100 Nm of torque.

The interior has been entirely hand made and is dominated by wooden and leather finishes, with alluminium features. The dash includes the “Carlsson Office Concert Hall Infotainment System”, with a high speed internet connection, seven-inch rear single screens and even a 15-inch panoramic screen in the roof, with home theatre set up.
