2010 Mercedes R-Class

Here are the official pics of the new Mercedes R-Class restyling presented at the New York Auto Show. As already discussed, it’s mostly the front end of the R-Class that has changed, with a new nose, bonnet, bumpers and light design. A new range of alloy wheels is available, measuring from 17 inches through to 21 inches. The rear bumper has been slightly changed and new lights feature at the back too. The exhaust outlets have also had a touch-up.

The new R-Class will be available in two wheel base lengths and with the option of 4Matic all-wheel drive. The interior can have a five, six or seven seat set-up and the boot has a capacity that can range up to 2,385 litres. The engine range includes the new models from the E-Class range with both petrol and diesel versions all appearing with the 7G-Tronic transmission and steering wheel shift. The new R300 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY models is equipped with the three-litre V6 engine with 190 hp and 440 Nm of torque. It has an average fuel consumption of 7.6 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 199 g/km. The R350 CDI 4Matic has the same engine but with 265 hp and 620 Nm. It has average fuel consumption of 8.5 l/100 km, 223 g/km of CO2 and reaches 100 km/hr in 7.6 seconds. Top speed is 235 km/hr. This model is also available in a BlueTEC version which complies with Euro6 anti-pollution norms. It has 211 hp, 540 Nm, 8.5 l/100 km of fuel consumption, acceleration of 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 220 km/hr. Leaked Mercedes R-Class pics

These leaked pics of the new Mercedes R-Class show a significantly redesigned front end sporting a new bonnet, larger grille in ‘wide-screen’ style, new bumper and modified lights which include the new foglight design and changes to the indicators. It’s a less angular design overall that fits in with other models in the Mercedes family.

The R-Class rear generally remains unchanged apart from new look tailights and bumper, and a squared off exhaust. The interior is pretty much as it ever was but with a few new Mercedes technology touches. The steering wheel, in a new design, gets air conditioning controls and we can also expect an AMG sports interior with different seats, steering wheel paddles and stainless steel pedals.

The new Mercedes R-Class will be presented at the upcoming New York auto show, where we should get more details, including news on the engine range. In the meantime, the guys at Autoblog are betting on the standard V6 line-up of petrol and diesel.

BMW Serie 5 GT - Gallery Ufficiale

The BMW 5-Series GT will soon be available in an all-wheel drive xDrive version, specifically aimed at the US market. It should come into direct competition with the Mercedes R-Class, which has been available since its launch date in 4Matic all-wheel drive.

The first available version of the 5-Series GT four wheel drive will be the 550i GT xDrive, which will be available from June. In September the 535i and 530d will also be available with xDrive, and the models are expected to cost about 7,000 euros more than the standard rear wheel drive model.

Mercedes R Class rendering

Mercedes R-Class rendering

Here’s a rendering of the new Mercedes R-Class, which will be hoping to revive its fortunes a little when it debuts at the 2010 Detroit Motor Show. So far it hasn’t been a particularly successful model for the brand, but after a minor facelift in 2007, this restyling should be more significant to turn sales around.

The R-Class first appeared in 2005, and later in the piece received its first restyling and a cheaper rear-wheel drive model was added to the line-up, along with a seven seater version. The next generation R-Class should feature a new front end similar to the A-Class and B-Class models.

Some minor changes to the rear will occur and the interior should also see some modifications. It will be released late next year as a 2011 model.
