In the wake of the various spy shots of the Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake that have come up in recent months, today we have received something a little more juicy in the form of a new set of sneaky pics starring its most sporty variant, the CLS 63 enhanced by AMG.
The Mercedes CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake is undergoing the same sort of cosmetic surgey that has been used to create the AMG version of its coupe counterpart, thereby it gets newly designed front and rear bumpers, an aggressive-looking set of wheels and a new quadruple exhaust system, while the braking system will be upgraded as well.
However, the real star here is the powerful 5.5-litre twin turbo V8 engine with direct injection that will be made available in two power steps: 525 hp with 700 Nm of peak torque for the ‘regular’ version and 557 hp with 800 Nm for the AMG Performance variant. The model will also use the 7-speed automatic Speedshift MCT gearbox, a transmission that has been specifically developed for AMG models.
German tuner Carlsson releases details and pictures of its new customization program for the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG (type C218), aptly called “Red and White Dream”.
The stock model is powered by a 6.2-litre twin-turbo V8 engine credited with an already impressive output of 557 hp and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of peak torque, but the tuner managed to boost those figures up to a staggering 652 hp with 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque, thanks to the addition of a a new exhaust system with metal catalysts and the re-mapping of the ECU. In terms of performance, the upgrade allows the CLS 63 AMG to burn the 0 - 100km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds, shaving 2 tenths off the time of the standard car.
The ‘Red and White Dream’ body kit is also quite impressive, with carbon fiber front and rear spoilers, integrated rear diffuser and lip spoilers. The visual enhancement is completed by a set of 20″ Carlsson 1/10 Brilliant Edition light alloy wheels, a front axle lowered by 30 mm and “Diamond White Metallic” paint. Besides, Carlsson replaced the 3-pointed star logo on the front grille with its own badge. As for the interior, Carlsson Nappa exclusive “Santa Red” leather has been used for seats, door panels, rear bench, trunk and even floor.

Japanese tuning firm Wald International presents a tuning program for the 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG called C218 Sports Line Black Bison Edition. The standard models already comes with its own aerodynamic kit, but this did not prevent Wald International to come up with its own body parts, which - combined with the matt black paint job - makes the Merc look even more wicked than usual.
This carbon-fiber kit consists of a new front bumper with bigger air intakes and integrated LED day running lights, a blacked-out front grille, new, sports fender ducts, side air outlets, a re-designed rear bumper with additional outlets and integrated diffuser, a roof spoiler and also a trunk spoiler. This tuning also uses a bigger set of alloy wheels finished in black, a D.T.M. sports muffler cutter with quadruple tail pipes, a lowering kit for the suspension and a customized set of carmats.

German tuner Vath introduced a new tuning package for Mercedes CLS 63 AMG called C218. The engine displacement has been increased to 5.461 liters that - with the help of a new exhaust system and a re-mapping of the ECU - boasts the 514 hp of the original four-door coupe up to a staggering 660 hp, with no less than 960 Nm of peak torque. This configuration allows the CLS 63 AMG to achieve 325 Km/h of top speed with a 0-100km/h sprint time of only 3.9 seconds.
The C218 package also includes a few aesthetic and aerodynamic changes in the form of slightly different bumpers, bigger air-intakes, rear wing and diffuser. Ride-height has been lowered, the braking system has been upgraded and standard rims replaced with Vath 20″ alloy wheels. The full C218 package comes with a 12.800€ price tag.

This bevy of new pictures of the new Mercedes CLS 63 AMG is enough to convince us that it is one of the most elegant cars of the year. What’s more, the guys in the design department have also managed to include some more sporty, aggressive lines giving a good balance to the smooth style and something extra which should appeal further to the male audience.
The CLS 63 AMG gets a new 5.5-litre, twinturbo V8 engine with 557 hp and 800 Nm. The video after the jump will prove to you that despite the two turbocompressors, it’s still got a sound like a traditionally aspirated unit which is not to be underestimated for fans of the AMG badge. The new automatic, seven-speed Speedshift MCT transmission is included and despite the supercar performance, we get fuel consumption of 9.9 l/100 km and 231 g/km of CO2.
The new model comes in two versions with the standard one having 525 hp and 700 Nm, while the Performance Package provides the figures mentioned above. Top speed is limited to 250 km/hr and acceleration time is 4.3 seconds on the performance model, or 4.4 seconds for the standard job. Obviously Mercedes has kitted the CLS AMG with plenty of extra goodies, including Ride Control suspension settings of Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus, new LED lights and optional carbon ceramic brakes.
Rumours that AMG could look at a Ducati takeover in the future after its new sponsorship and marketing deal will be met with more than just skepticism, with the Italians probably thinking that AMG has no business with their bikes. In the meantime we wanted to take a closer look at the first steps in the joint image marketing. In these pics and the video (after the jump) we see the new Mercedes CLS 63 AMG lined up beside the Ducati Diavel, the latest in the Italian bike manufacturer’s line-up.
The Diavel is Ducati’s new cruiser invention and while it’s got enough of the novelty factor to pull off the pics and video, frankly a classic sports Ducati would have been more in line with the AMG performance soul. According to the takeover reports, AMG badged Ducatis would be part of a strategy to create a more environmentally friendly brand but we’ve got our serious doubts on this one. See how the two pair up in the images and the video after the jump, with the Ducati press release announcing the partnership.
