The guys from MotorAuthority have spied the next generation Renault Mégane GrandTour during test driving in Scandinavia before its debut.
The new Mégane is starting to give life to an entire family of models, as in previous versions, and after the station wagon, we should see a large sedan, coupé-cabriolet and even a crossover.
As per the smaller model seen at the Paris show last year, the Mégane should start to lose some of its more controversial design elements, resulting in a sober and more conventional style.
The Renault stand at the Paris show has done nothing halfway. There is everything from the Megane, five doors to the coupé, the concept Z.E and plenty of comments either flattering or critical. And the hatchback has (finally) been presented by company president Carlos Ghosn.
We’re quite taken with the three door version, baptised coupé without any sensationalism, which shows off a touch of dynamism and some good looks. The stylistic excesses of the previous generation are a long way away.

While this is not quite a coupè, it’s not missing much to be considered one. AutoExpress has got its hands on these shots of the three door Renault Mégane and we’re very impressed by its style.
It looks like the French company has undergone an aesthetic revolution here, despite the fact that the car looks very dissimilar to the original. These black and white shots show the Megane with a muscular but elegant style that’s very very sporty. Even in the details the three door is different from its more laid back sister, with the lights and spoilers more agressive elements.
The car should also distinguish itself from the other Megane with interior finishings, including brushed alluminium.
The first commercial of the new Renault Megane has already been launched. Having reached the thrid generation, we’ve so far seen only the five door hatchback, but there is also a sports coupè and the Scenic version on their way.
Here is the Renault Megane, third generation, in front of our nose. Only a little after the Volkswagon Golf and unlikely to be a coincidence. It shows a French aesthetic style, compared to the German car, such that this hatchback has a pleasing look.
While we wait for the close up look at the Paris show, Renault releases some interesting details on the car. The petrol engines will have a range of between 100 and 180hp (the latter being from the TCe family), while the diesels will have a range of 85 to 150hp. All will have five and six-speed manual transmission, while the automatic version will have six-speed only.
The debut of the 1.4 TCe at 130hp and 190Nm will be postponed until spring 2009 in expectation of the three door sports model (at the Paris show as a concept car). The interior should show some design evolution seen in the latest models, such as the Laguna. The central console will include the multimedia system with the instrument panel having a multifunctional display.
