Renault Megane RS 250 Monaco Grand Prix Edition

The Renault Megane RS gets a new Monaco Grand Prix Limited Edition model which will have a production run of just 50 units. It comes in special pearl white paint with piano black trim and offers some special components, including new mirror units, rear diffuser and fog light surrounds in the black.

The Megane RS 250 Monaco Grand Prix Limited Edition was originally designed as a special hot hatch for the Australian car market, but after its presentation at the last Geneva Motor Show, it’s also headed for Europe in limited numbers. The model is based on the Megane RS with 250 hp and 340 Nm of torque and will offer 19-inch wheels as standard, Brembo brakes with red callipers, panoramic roof and bi-xenon headlights.

On the inside the special edition Megane Monaco Grand Prix gets sports seats in Recaro leather upholstery, the white and piano black trim combo and special edition logos and stitching on the floor mats and seat backs.

Renault Megane RS Trophy Nurburgring record video

By Alison

The Renault Megane RS Trophy hot hatch has set a new record at the Nurburgring and here we see the video of the record lap time of 8′08″. Compared to more powerful, rear-wheel drive models, the 265 hp and 360 Nm of the four-cylinder, two-litre engine from the RS might not seem like much. But this record from Renault Sport is a response to the high horse power contingent, and at eight minutes, it’s a peremptory response at that.

Renault Megane RS Trophy

Competition is heating up in the hot hatch segment and we’re not just talking in terms of colour. After Opel released its Astra GTC model, Renault is now in on the yellow game too with its Megane RS Trophy - a new limited edition version that takes the standard Megane RS one step further. The car gets a four-cylinder, two-litre turbo engine from the standard Megane RS model, but with 265 hp and 360 Nm (up 15 and 20 units respectively). The weight to power ratio comes in at 5.09 kg/hp.

The Renault Megane RS Trophy has some serious tweaks to the motor to ensure better pressure and torque delivery at higher revs, and it is equipped with an improved aspiration system to withstand the higher pressure and temperatures. The new Trophy limited edition gets to 100 km/hr in just six seconds, and has a top speed of 254 km/hr. Renault has used its “Cup” chassis with differential and high performance Bridgestone Potenza tyres.

The RS Trophy look has a blacked-out roof, dedicated badges and graphics, new rear spoiler and 19-inch Gloss Black STEEV wheels with red border. The yellow we mentioned earlier is a new “Sirius Yellow” colour which is apparently becoming the colour of choice for Renault’s sports models. Other colours on offer are Glacier White, Etoilé Black and Cassiopée Grey. On the inside the Megane RS Trophy gets Recaro sports seats and a new central display with track time function. The RS Trophy will cost about 35,500 euros and will go on show at the Renault Sport Day at the Nurburgring on June 17.

French police to get Renault Sport Megane Cup

By Alison

Renault Megane RS - nuove immagini uffiiciali

The sexy and fast Renault Sport Megane Cup 250 is destined for the French police force as the company won its tender to provide 70 RS Megane vehicles to the highway patrol unit as part of the rapid intervention fleet. The Megane Cup has got a number of good write-ups since it appeared, and according to reports the “Chassis Cup” model was chosen due to its precise handling.

The standard Megane RS Cup model has a 2.0-litre engine under the bonnet with about 250 hp and 340 Nm of torque; to which the French police units will add specially tuned suspension and a limited slip differential. Renault coach builder, Durisotti has been selected to provide the Gendamerie-specific parts.

Renault Megane RS to rival new Ford Focus RS

By Alison

Renault Megane RS spy shots

This spy shot shows that Renaultsport is working on developing its Megane hot hatch, developing it to compete with the next generation Focus RS on its way. The main objective for Renault is to close the gap between the power output of the cars, with hopes to gain up to 300 hp on the 2.0-litre engine.

For the moment, the Megane RS lags behind the Focus RS with about 50 hp less and most modifications will be completed at the mechanical level. The chassis will be very similar and the limited slip differential which was originally borrowed from Nissan, should be able to support more power.

The design of the new Renault Megane RS will be pretty much what it is now, although this spy shot shows that extra cooling for the brakes and engine will be taken into account. In the future a lightweight model could appear with plastic windows and carbonfibre panelling, but it would be destined for an end-of-generation limited series production.

New Renault Megane RS video

By Alison

Here’s an on-board, high speed video of the new Renault Megane RS, with some track action from the hot hatch as well. While the music gets in the way a little, we can hear the fantastic engine noise of the Megane RS and the revs certainly sound sweet.

The Megane RS is equipped with a 2.0-litre turbo engine with 250 hp and 340 Nm, reaching 100 km/hr in six seconds. Check out the gallery for more pics of the Megane RS, and the Ascari track presentation video here.
