Lamborghini Gallardo destroyed in China: pics

Lamborghini Gallardo destroyed by sledgehammers in China

This Lamborghini Gallardo was destroyed by an unhappy owner in China, who has been unsatisfied with the lack of response from Lamborghini on a few problems that he encountered with his new supercar. The model apparently had some starting issues but when the owner tried to get them fixed, things spiralled downhill.

So to draw attention to consumer rights, particularly in China where the owner believes increased purchasing power for luxury goods has not been matched by increased service in that market, he decided to destroy his Gallardo with sledgehammers and the help of his own factory employees. It’s quite a scene - check out the hammered Gallardo in the pics below.

Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore first pic

By Alison

Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore first pic

This first pic of the Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore has been released. After revealing the brand new Aventador at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, this Gallardo with Italy’s three flag colours has been made to celebrate 150 years of the unification of Italy. The model will go on display at an exhibition in Turin dedicated to the important anniversary.

The Gallardo Tricolore sports lovely white livery and a stripe of Italy’s tri-colour flag down the side, following the same idea as that used on the Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni. It’s an elegant homage to Italy’s unification anniversary from one of the country’s most famous brands. So far no technical details or production numbers have been released.

Lamborghini Gallardo three-tone to follow Gallardo Bicolore special edition?

By Alison

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera new pics

After reports that we would see a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 twin-tone version at the Detroit Auto Show, more has been added to that rumour, with speculations that there will also be a three-tone model. The two Gallardo models will be called Bicolore and Tricolore and we should see at least the former at the show in January. It will have Callisto alloy wheels, redesigned interior and a black roof matched to yellow, white, grey, orange and green colour schemes.

The Lamborghini Gallardo SE is a past twin-tone version which also had a black roof. 250 units of it were produced. The new version offers this kind of treatment again, and could be extended to a three-tone model which could appear at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. We’re thinking it might be a “tricolore” version with the colours of the Italian flag, possibly in light of festivities celebrating 150 years of Italian unification, but that’s pure speculation.

Lamborghini Gallardo vs golf: video on how a Callaway driver compares to a supercar

By Alison

Here’s the first in the Lamborghini-Callaway publicity stunts but we’ll forgive them for this one. Basically, golfer Stuart Appleby tries out a new forged composite carbon driver to try and beat a Lamborghini Gallardo along 250 metres, by hitting the ball as the Gallardo gets a rolling start. You wouldn’t have thought it, but Appleby claims he can hit a ball, that off the face of the club goes at 270 to 280 km/hr so the competition is not as one-sided as it first seems. Check out what happens in the video above - a good excuse to show off some new technology.

Special edition Bicolore Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 at Detroit auto show?

By Alison

2005 Lamborghini Gallardo SE

A twin-tone special edition Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 could appear at the Detroit auto show in a model similar to the Gallardo SE of 2005 (pictured above). It was produced in a limited run of 250 units. The twin-colour paintwork edition currently known as the Gallardo Bicolore would be the latest and last of the Gallardo models before it’s replaced in the future. According to reports a small production run is already planned with deliveries of the first models expected in February next year.

Most likely this special edition Gallardo is equipped with the 5.2-litre V10 in the 570-hp powerstep - the same as that on the Superleggera and Performante Spyder. The exterior twin-colour scheme with its black roof is similar to the SE mentioned above, and should be carried inside where the interior will also feature a two-tone design we imagine with things like stitching on the seats and dash panelling featuring.

Jeremy Clarkson the Italian Job

By Alison

Leaving aside any nasty comments about Jeremy Clarkson he has got a really good job. In fact, we imagine there are a lot of people out there wanting his job and if not all of it, at least the part where Clarkson does the Italian job. Meaning he spends part of his summer at Imola and Fiorano driving around in Italian supercars.

Clarkson has developed a two-disc DVD set of his exploits in which we can presumably see him in lots of scenes driving vehicles like the Ferrari 458 Italia, Lamborghini Gallardo and even the Pagani Zonda R. It’s all been in preparation for him to take on the ‘pros’ at a touring car event in the UK. Unfortunately the video above is just the trailer and if you want the full thing, with all the action and smart aleck comments, you’ll have to wait.

Lamborghini SUV in the works?

By Alison

Lamborghini SUV LM002

A Lamborghini SUV is being developed and while we’re not sure why, more than one eyebrow will be raised with this news. According to CarandDriver it is “strongly hinted” that Lamborghini is developing an SUV in the style of the LM002, which could use the Porsche Cayenne or Volkswagen Touareg platform, but with a Lamborghini style that would make it unrecognisable as either of those two models.

It’s part of reported product expansion at Lamborghini and would follow an entry level sports car with a V8 engine, which would be positioned below the Gallardo. The two vehicles are part of a plan that doesn’t include the lovely Lamborghini Estoque which seems destined to remain a concept car at this stage.

Weird paint job on Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 by Paul Pascarella

By Alison

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 by Paul Pascarella

This bizarre Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 has been decorated by artist Paul Pascarella. Although strange, bizarre often suits Lamborghini and this LP560-4 one-off will go on sale at the Lamborghini dealership of Beverly Hills. The car has a Lamborghini Ad Personam personalised kit, Blue Cepheus body tint and on the inside, Blue Scylla & Cuoio Olympus leather finish.

The final touch from Mexican artist is the abstract design on the bonnet, roof and engine cover. We said bizarre, you might say ugly, but it’s all about the exclusivity. We don’t know what the going price is, but it won’t be pretty unless money really isn’t an object.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera new pics

By Alison

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera new pics

Here are new official pics of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera which we first saw in live Gallardo pics from the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. As the name suggests, the Gallardo Superleggera is all about the lightest Lamborghini around, with a weight saving of 70 kg on the standard Gallardo, for a total of 1,340 kg. With a power boost of 10 hp to the V10 engine, with a total of 570 hp, the figures make for a record weight power ratio of 2.35 kg/hp.

Obviously carbonfibre abounds in this new Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera, with the entire bonnet component in carbonfibre and other elements made from polycarbon. Carbonfibre is also used for the rear wing, side skirts, diffusor and rear view mirrors. In total the carbonfibre elements make up 40 of the 70 kg saved on the LP560, and are also used in the interior door panels, central tunnel and seat shells. Check out all the new pics of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera below.

Lamborghini Gallardo GT600 BF Performance tuning

By Alison

BF Performance Lamborghini Gallardo GT600

This Lamborghini Gallardo tuning is called the GT600 and is by Swiss tuners BF Performance. The GT600 is based on the Gallardo LP560-4 in both coupe and spider versions. There is a complete aerodynamic kit made of carbonfibre, which is also used on interior panelling. Other features include vertically opening doors, sports seats with a four seatbelt set-up and the option of fitting a safety roll bar.

The tuning work on this GT600 has shaved 43 kg off the weight of the original Gallardo LP560-4 and the engine has had a few tweaks to improve performance. One option available is to transform this Gallardo from all-wheel to rear-wheel drive, similar to the LP550-2 Balboni model.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera live at Geneva in face of Lamborghini sales crash

By Alison

Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera live at Geneva motor show

As we check out these live pics of the Lamborghini LP570-4 Superleggera from the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, we discover that Lamborghini had a tough sales year for 2009. Going green like the Ferrari 599 Hy-Kers concept, the Lamborghini SuperLeggera is the heir to the current Gallardo Superleggera, and the little sister to the Murcielago SV. Basically it’s all about carbonfibre, making the body light and therefore also increasing the performance.

The Lamborghini LP570-4 Superleggera is 70 kg lighter than the Gallardo, for a total of 1,340 kg. The V10 engine gets a power boost of 10 hp, up to 570 hp and the weight-power ratio is now a record 2.35 kg/hp. There is also a 20 percent reduction in fuel consumption and emissions compared to the first Superleggera. Top speed is 325 km/hr and acceleration to 100 km/hr occurs in 3.4 seconds.

There are plenty of other features of this model which hopefully bode well for Lamborghini in the future as sales reveal that the company sold just 1,515 vehicles last year. That’s a fall of 37.7 percent on 2008 figures. After the previous year saw record sales for Lamborghini, it’s now been dealt a hard blow, with earnings sliding from 479 to 281 million euros. It’s all down to the world economic crisis and the hard hit US and Eastern European markets. Grabbing the bull by the horns, so to speak, for 2010, Lamborghini is reducing production to keep the demand exclusive and hopes to ride out the crisis. We’ll have to wait and see.
