Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera live at Geneva in face of Lamborghini sales crash

Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera live at Geneva motor show

As we check out these live pics of the Lamborghini LP570-4 Superleggera from the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, we discover that Lamborghini had a tough sales year for 2009. Going green like the Ferrari 599 Hy-Kers concept, the Lamborghini SuperLeggera is the heir to the current Gallardo Superleggera, and the little sister to the Murcielago SV. Basically it’s all about carbonfibre, making the body light and therefore also increasing the performance.

The Lamborghini LP570-4 Superleggera is 70 kg lighter than the Gallardo, for a total of 1,340 kg. The V10 engine gets a power boost of 10 hp, up to 570 hp and the weight-power ratio is now a record 2.35 kg/hp. There is also a 20 percent reduction in fuel consumption and emissions compared to the first Superleggera. Top speed is 325 km/hr and acceleration to 100 km/hr occurs in 3.4 seconds.

There are plenty of other features of this model which hopefully bode well for Lamborghini in the future as sales reveal that the company sold just 1,515 vehicles last year. That’s a fall of 37.7 percent on 2008 figures. After the previous year saw record sales for Lamborghini, it’s now been dealt a hard blow, with earnings sliding from 479 to 281 million euros. It’s all down to the world economic crisis and the hard hit US and Eastern European markets. Grabbing the bull by the horns, so to speak, for 2010, Lamborghini is reducing production to keep the demand exclusive and hopes to ride out the crisis. We’ll have to wait and see.

Tractorri: Lamborghini Gallardo with Ford Mustang body kit

By Alison in: Lamborghini Curiousities Ford Tuning Super cars

gallardo mustang

This is the first Lamborghini Mustang we’ve ever seen although plenty of Ferrari and Lamborghini replicas are built in the US. The technical base of the car is a Gallardo, but with the bodywork of a 2007 Mustang. The strange looking car is called a Tractorri and has an intriguing mix of the Italian and the American.

The wheels and brakes are true to Italian roots, as is the V10 central-rear engine and overall supercar specs, but externally this is all American muscle car. Lamborghini purists won’t be impressed, but this Gallardo-Mustang is not just a one-off, with the possibility available to anyone who might be interested of turning their Gallardo into a Mustang.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Veloce renderings

By Alison in: Future Cars Lamborghini Super cars

Gallardo SuperVeloce renderings

These renderings show an interpretation of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 SuperVeloce, which rumours suggest might appear at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. This Gallardo SuperVeloce is based on the Gallardo Superleggera, and focuses on reduced weight, to improve vastly the power to weight ratio.

These renderings are based on the Murcielago SuperVeloce style, and show a large rear wing, carbon fibre roof and restyled front spoiler. If rumours prove true, and we see a new Lamborghini at Geneva, the Gallardo SuperVeloce could be on the road by summer this year.

German magazine Auto Bild has declared that the cabriolet/roadster sports car of the year for 2009 is the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560/4 Spyder. The Gallardo was part of a number of sports cars, any one of which we would like to have, that was voted on by Auto Bild readers.

Winning in the cabriolet/roadster tuning section was the Gemballa Mirage GT Special Edition, while the Audi TT-RS and ABT AS5-R were the favourite coupe models voted, the latter representing the tuning category.

Underground Racing Lamborghini Gallardo with 1500 hp

By Alison in: Lamborghini Videos Tuning

Here’s a look at a Lamborghini Gallardo Twin Turbo “Race Version” with 1500 hp. The Gallardo, nicknamed the TTG, has been created by Underground Racing and uses VP C16 racing fuel, helping to produce the 1500 wheel horse power figure mentioned. I’m not an engineer, but for those of you interested, the guys at WCF reckon there is about 1,875 hp at the crank.

Whatever the case, I get the impression this is a very fast (FAST!!) Gallardo. It has a six-speed transmission and can do a quarter mile in under ten seconds, running at more than 250 km/hr. This performance could be improved as it was the first time driving it for the customer, who hasn’t been to a drag strip in a long time.

Lamborghini Gallardo tuning: IMSA tunes the Lambo LP560-4

By Alison in: Lamborghini Tuning Super cars

IMSA GTV Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4

German tuner IMSA has presented its new tuning kit for the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. The body kit has been built from carbon fibre, the trim can be adjusted in eight different positions. The tuned-up Gallardo has a new electronics system and titanium exhaust, increasing power to 584 hp and torque to 560 Nm.

A widening of the wheel base was necessary to house the new alloy wheels, centrally mounted and measuring 9×20″ at the front, shod 245/30; and 12,5×20″ at the rear shod in 325/25. New interior features include monocoque carbon fibre seats, and plenty of further use of this material in the finishings.

Lamborghini Super Trofeo last race

By Alison in: Lamborghini Curiousities Super cars

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Super Trofeo

The final race of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo (Blancpain) will take place this weekend from October 2-4 at the Paul Ricard track. The last round in Barcellona has left the championship open for any victory (as long as it’s Lamborghini).

A curiosity from the Super Trofeo series has been the presence of drivers Hervé and Cedric Leimer. The brothers are the only non-professional drivers in the series, having had a passion for Lamborghini since 1974 when their father René bought a 49 percent stake in the company from Lamborghini founder Ferruccio.

Lamborghini to cut CO2 emissions

By Alison in: Lamborghini Super cars

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4

After launching the Gallardo LP 560-4 last year in which Lamborghini managed to cut CO2 emissions by 18 percent, the company has plans to further reduce emissions across its entire by 35 percent before 2015.

The reduction with the Gallardo LP 560-4 was managed using direct injection technology, while the further cut will be achieved by decreasing vehicle weight, using hybrid technology and biofuels and developing a stop-start system.

It looks like we’ll have to get used to Italian supercars tackling environmental issues, as Ferrari also continues its hybrid campaign. Lamborghini President, Steve Winkelmann has said: “Despite the difficult situation in today’s global economy, Lamborghini is committed to its policy of environmental management, since we are well aware of the great opportunities that derive from it.”

Those opportunities are long term corporate and product development, which translates into long term future survival for a car company previously used to fast cars and powerful engines. But with today’s technology, it all looks possible, and Lamborghini is taking its environmental commitment so seriously that it aims to reduce CO2 emissions even at its Sant’Agata Bolognese factory.

Fifth Gear drives the Lamborghini LP560-4 on ice

By Alison in: Lamborghini Videos Super cars

Whether Lamborghini will ever reconsider lending its 140,000 pound car to the guys from Fifth Gear remains to be seen, but in this video you can check out the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 on snow. The ice track is perfect for a bit of “old fashioned adrenalin”, especially when traction control is off.

The Gallardo shows some very impressive technology, but for real fun the ESP system should be off to really exploit the supercar’s all-wheel drive. 552hp on snow with all-wheel drive is hard work, apparently, but also a lot of fun.

New details on Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV

By Alison in: Coupe Lamborghini Super cars

Lamborghini Murcielago Lp640

The next jewell in the crown from Lamborghini will be the new Murcielago LP670-4 SV. With the name likely to stick, Lamborghini fans will be able to figure out the main characteristics of the most powerful Lamborghini made, which could be launched at the Geneva motor show in March.

While the V12 Murcielago should reach 670hp, it will likely include all wheel drive despite the historic SV name, which could disappoint afficionados. While the overall weight is likely to be similar to the LP 640 sister, the look is likely to change with modifications similar to the 2007 Gallardo Superleggera.

The rear wing should come in varying options and based on the aerodynamics chosen, the maximum speed should range between 337 and 342 km/hr. The price should be about 25 more than the LP640, taking the new Lamborghini Murcielago to about 360,000 euros.
