Who will be the ultimate winner of this supercar drag race? Or better who will be a match for the Veyron when it comes to pure acceleration? In the first round the twin-turbocharged V8 McLaren challenges the V10 Lexus, the winner will have to race the Aventador in round 2. The fastest will then take on the mighty 16-cylinder, 4 turbochargers and 1,001hp Bugatti for the final round. Go get the popcorns, volume up and enjoy it!
Judging by the look of this thing, you might guess it comes from another planet or something, but in reality the brand new Lamborghini Aventador J is absolutely road legal. The latest rendition of the successful Aventador has been designed to be the most exciting and uncompromising Roadster ever made, and it is - as Lamborghini puts it - a “radically open automobile”, meaning that it comes with no roof and no windscreen. Therby you would need to wear helmet and leathers in order to jump on board and enjoy its 300 km/h of top speed ‘in your face’, but that’s a small price to pay for what could really end up being the driving experience of your life.
The Lamborghini Aventador J is a one off that Lamborghini will showcase at the imminent Geneva Motor Show and will then put up for grabs once the event will be over. The model - based on LP700-4 -the is also a proper, unique piece of art: there’s only one Aventador J, the one you see in these images. That’s the one that will be on display in Geneva and the one that will be sold right after it: no prototypes, no mules, not even one for the Lamborghini Museum. That’s the deal.
The Aventador J is powered by the same 6.5-litre V12 engine of the regular coupe version, capable of delivering 700 hp and coupled to a ISR gearbox that transfers its power to all four wheels. However, there are quite a few features that makes it different from the model it derives from. Lack of roof and wind protection aside - apart from those two small deflectors that we think are merely choreographic - the Aventador J uses a monocoque chassis with a roll bar behind the seats. Everything that was not functional to achieving maximum performance has been scrapped, and so sound system, clima and sat-nav are all gone. Seats are made of forged composite and uses a special carbon-based fabric called Carbonskin, patented by Lamborghini itself. Aesthetically, the J boasts a narrower front end, specifically designed bumpers, a carbon rear wing, 20″ alloys on the front axle and 21″ at the back. This is definitely not the usual set of spy shots that we get to receive every now and then. This time our photographers from CarPix have caught on camera a mule of the Lamborghini Aventador losing control while approaching a two-ways junction in the Artic Circle and crashing into a snow bank.
Even though this car has already been launched, it happens quite often that the manufacturers just carry on testing models that are already out there in order to improve them, which doesn’t necessarily mean that they are going to be restyled or something that radical. Initially our guys thought that this Lambo was a prototype for the next Aventador Roadster, but this was just not the case.
According to what our photographer, the Lambo enterde the corner at a fast speed and the icy surface of the road did not allow the driver to keep its line, resulting in the car skidding through the intersection and bumping in the snow. Apparently - and quite understandably - the driver was really angry at our guys when he first got out of the car, but then an Audi A6 Allroad came to the rescue and, as soon as he realized that the car did not suffer any particular problem, he calmed down and agreed to pose with a large smile and a big thumb up. At the beginning, that was definitely not the finger that our guys where were expecting to see …
Lamborghini will take part to the 2012 Geneva Motor Show with the Roadster version of the Aventador LP700-4, which will feature a rigid mobile module able to transform it in the matter of second from a coupé to a convertible. This solution is definitely more refined than the one offered by the Murcielago Roadster, which was featuring a fabric top only homologated for a maximum speed of 180 km/h, combined with an automatic roll bar.
The Aventador on the other hand features a carbon hard top which results much more reliable than the fabric one, and that can be used even if the speed has exceeded the 180 km/h mark. It will mount the same engine as the coupé, the new V12 6.5 supplying 700 hp and with a maximum torque of 690 Nm, but we still have to see to what degree the mass augmentation will affect this vehicle’s performance.
We’ve decided to share with you a very interesting seven-part documentary describing the history of the Lamborghini brand as well as of its most famous models. Today we are going to publish the first part, which is dedicated to the amazing Lamborghini Aventador, a vehicle that since 2011 has become the new flagship model of this Italian car manufacturer and that has set the bar very high in terms of performance, style, aerodynamic and materials used. Follow us every day this week to view the other episodes describing everything you need to know about Lamborghini’s production and vehicles.
British magazine Autocar was not too sure about what Lamborghini says about the Aventador, and in order to verify the bold statements produced by the Italian manufacturer in regard to its flagship, they decided to arrange a drag-race featuring the 691 hp Lambo and two much cheaper cars that, on paper, would stand no chance against it: Porsche 911 GT2 RS and Mercedes SLS AMG. As usual, we won’t spoil the surprise by telling you what happened: you will have to see the video to find that out.
German Magazine Sport Auto released a video starring the astonishing Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 taking on two tasks: in the first part of the clip you will see it going for a fast lap at the German track of Hockenheim, placing itself in second place after Porsche 911 GT2 RS and before the likes of the Carrera GT, McLaren MP4-12C and Gallardo Superleggera; in the second part we have a close-up of the speedometer showing us its progression from standstill up to 370 km/h (230 mph). However, it seems like the GPS recorded a top speed of ‘only’ 354 km/h (220 mph): still pretty impressive though, isn’t it?
German designer and car model specialist and maker Robert Wilhelm Gülpen has come up with a golden, platinum, carbon fiber and diamond encrusted Lamborghini Aventador scale model.
More specifically, the piece features about 700 diamonds embedded into each seat, the suspension is hand-crafted from solid gold and the rims are made of platinum, while carbon fiber will be used to manufacture the body parts. The overall cost of the material used to create it is estimated at 2.5 million € , but the model is expected to fetch something like 3.5 million € (approximately 3 million £ / 4.7 million $) when it will be auctioned in New York this month, aiming to score a 500,000 € profit to be donated to charity.

Fifth Gear co-presenter Timothy “Tiff” Needell tested the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 for the well-known British TV show, and - in case you missed it - here is the footage of that test. As you will see in the clip, Mr.Needell is not fully satisfied with the latest outcome of the VW-owned Italian carmaker.
Mr. Needell is also a former racing driver and surely has the necessary experience to make the most out of the 12 cylinder 700 hp supercar, and in this video you can see him testing the Aventador in a small town scenario, on the open roads of the countryside and on the track, where the new Lambo achieved an astonishing 205 mph top speed (330 km/h), which is Fifth Gear’s new speed record for production cars.

The new Batman film The Dark Knight Rises will see Bruce Wayne driving the new Lamborghini Aventador as the vehicle of choice for the superhero. Tough gig, right? The Aventador will replace the Gotham millionaire’s previous ride, the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640.
In these pics we see the Batman Aventador with Gotham plates and an elegant grey exterior. We think it would match a long-legged female beauty quite well and we’d love to see the filmmakers take the opportunity to build a heart-gripping scene around the Aventador. They could hardly leave it parked on the street outside the new Batman mansion now, could they?

After the first Lamborghini Aventador tuning designs we saw from DMC Gargiulo, here is Oakley Design putting together its vision of the new Lambo V12. After the gorgeous Oakley Design Ferrari 458 Italia, we’re only too happy to see what they can come up with on another Italian exotic.
Oakley Design’s focus on its Aventador tuning is to reduce the weight by using more carbonfibre components in order to emphasise the new, aggressive V12 engine. According to the first estimates, power could get up to about 760 hp thanks to a new titanium exhaust, but the real news is that this Aventador could get rear-wheel drive - saving up to 50 kg in the process. In that case we’d actually see a new Aventador LP760-2. Wow.

The new Lamborghini Aventador has got to be the Italian exotic car of the year, presented at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show and marking a new era for the Lamborghini V12 with some modern Lamborghini design updates. Which is all fine, but how does the new Lamborghini Aventador compare with the other supercars on the road and what kind of driving satisfaction does the new Aventador give? We’ve already seen our Lamborghini Aventador road test, but what does the rest of the autoworld media say?
In the video above from Autocar, the English mag says that in terms of comfort, it’s not the best road-going supercar out there because of its bumpy ride. But the flipside to that, is that the Aventador is absolutely stuck to the road. With 700 hp and the new V12 this Lamborghini is more raw than refined, which is a curious thing for a car that was supposed to be a revolution on the Murcielago.
That rawness could become Lamborghini’s trademark, along with the continuing distinctive Lambo style we see on its cars. The Aventador is an evolution, not a revolution, in Lamborghini design. In essence, it’s all about the engine and different from Ferrari, which also focuses on electronics and luxury, the new Lamborghini loves its pure mechanics.
