Giving the crisis in the automobile sector (especially in the Japanese car market), Aston Martin has declared itself satisfied with its sales for 2008. In fact, though no absolute records were reached, 2008 was the second most successful sales year ever for Aston Martin.
Ulrich Bez has stated that he is particularly satisfied with the results of the DBS, which has seduced more than 1,000 customers since its debut, and that the company has great hopes for the V12 Vantage, to be produced in 500 units, which is half the original target, within in the year.
Even more important will be the arrival of the Rapide, whose production is set for the end of 2009. The Lagonda brand, after the first Lagonda concept from Geneva, is destined to remain a show-car at this stage, leaving the honour of becoming a production car to the second prototype to be presented in May.

As promised, here is Aston Martin’s Lagonda Concept Car, presented by Ulrich Betz at the 2009 Geneva motor show. With this car, and other updates, Aston Martin, at 100 years of age, is undergoing a brand evolution that is set to explore new markets and ideas with a personal style.
The Lagonda Concept is a kind of sports SUV with retro touches, and a slight influence from the 20’s and 30’s similar to that seen on recent Bentley models. Through Lagonda, Aston Martin will explore overseas markets, including Russia, Arab countries, Asia and South America. The innovative product is a neo-classical crossover, with 4WD elements, but class and luxury too.
To achieve this, Aston Martin has initiated a collaboration with Mercedes for the Lagonda chassis, using that of the CL, and all-wheel drive. Maximum practicality is to be combined with luxury and high performance. Though still in development phase, the Lagonda will also take into consideration twin-fuel, hybrid and diesel options. Currently, the engine is set to be a genetic V12 with no specific origin or characteristics as yet.
