The original Aston Martin DB5 belonging to James Bond and first appearing in the Goldfinger film, is up for auction. It’s expected to go for a figure of about three million pounds when it goes on sale next week. It has been in a private collection for the last 40 years and while not perfectly practical, it’s still driveable with plenty of “Bond sound effects”.
Restoration costs have been estimated at about £300,000 but the DB5 still has all its gadgets like the bullet proof screen, navigation unit, machine gun unit, inbuilt satellite phone and more. What’s more, Sean Connery actually drove this car and that, for any woman, is a winner. After the jump is the video in which Sean Connery, as James Bond, gets introduced to his new vehicle.

I should think there will be many James Bond afficionados around the world who are thinking that it was about time. The Bond Museum has opened in Keswick, Cumbria, created by entrepreneur Peter Nelson. The museum will hold a large part of the cars used for nearly all the 007 films.
The most interesting cars are those driven by James Bond himself, like the Aston Martin DB5 and the Vanquish, or the BMW Z3 and Z8. The Lotus Esprit S1 and the Ford Mustang Mach 1 will also be on display in a total of 19 cars. Other vehicles included in the collection are the mini jet from Octopussy and the Cagiva motorcycles from GoldenEye.
