This video of the Jaguar XKR-S is tantalising as we get snatches of that new XKR-S engine and exhaust sound. As per usual, we’d like more of the car itself and less of the soundtrack, but on the whole Jaguar has given us an overall great video of the XKR-S driving on the road and the track.
In fact, this is probably as close as we’ll get to the adrenalin-producing 550 hp. The 5.5-litre V8 has all those ponies, and 680 Nm of torque, giving it a top speed of 300 km/hr and a sprint to 100 of 4.4 seconds. We want one, badly.
The Jaguar XK coupé will get a supersports version at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in the form of the Jaguar XKR-S. The new model houses a supercharged version of the 5.0-litre V8 engine, with power now up to 542 hp and about 680 Nm of torque.
Added to those figures the Jaguar XKR-S makes it to 100 km/hr in 4.2 seconds and has a top speed of 300 km/hr. Those are the only details on the technical front, although a few modifications have been made to make this weapon easier to drive. There is stiffer front suspension and front and rear springs, wider rear tyres, a lowered height and new dampers to make steering more precise.
According to Autocar there is also a new exhaust system but it is being used for better sound, rather than to improve performance. Described as an Aston Martin competitor, Jaguar has really pulled out the big guns to compete in the premium supersports coupé segment, and we can expect a price tag to match.
Is it me or do the guys at Autocar get to try all the cool cars? This 90-second video review details the new Jaguar XKR 75, described as Jaguar’s fastest production car. Not only that, but according to this review, it can be considered a rival to the Porsche 911 GT3, which is tough adversary in anyone’s books.
The Jaguar XKR 75 has all the technology you can imagine, with more power and torque, in a harmonious unit that is also very sexy. Jaguar has also made the clever decision of making everything on the options list part of the standard package instead. The XKR 75 costs just 10,000 pounds more than the standard version and makes the Porsche 911 GT3 look very expensive. In short, “this thing is quite beautiful to drive.”
The Jaguar XKR Goodwood Special Edition is based on the 2009 concept car of the same name and has lapped the Nurburgring in under eight minutes. It’s not known whether the prototype will also be developed into a series model, but it’s certainly got more racing than road qualifications. It’s a lighter model and has modifications to the suspension and engine components.
The declared time of the XKR Goodwood Nurburgring lap is 7.58 minutes, achieved by one of Jaguar’s test drivers (that is to say not a professional driver with any specific training for this circuit). The Jaguar Goodwood special has a top speed of 300 km/hr which is the highest to ever appear on an XK. The current special edition has 510 hp and 280 km/hr. All they need to do now is decide whether there’s a market for the XKR Goodwood (perhaps in a different colour, though).
We took for granted the fact that if Jaguar were to throw itself into the SUV mix, in could obfuscate the Land Rover products, and so the Jaguar future will focus on sports vehicles, as revealed by Ratan Tata. No Jaguar SUV is in the making.
In the course of an interview with Automotive News, the president of the Indian industrial group has confirmed face-lifts for the R-R version of the Xk, with 2010 being set as the date for the debut of the new Jaguar Xj. As such, Tata has confirmed what market expectations were already.

While SUVs are generally considered a sure-fire way of gaining sales, crisis or no crisis, the CEO of Jaguar’s parent company, Ratan Tata, has given a firm ‘no’ to any questions regarding whether Jaguar would add a SUV to its portfolio or not.
It appears that Tata will be focussing on the strong points of the traditional Jaguar offering in 2009, with future models debuting mostly as sports cars and sedans. This would also protect the Land Rover brand, sister company to Jaguar, as the latter would provide no competition in the SUV sector.

Jaguar is to present the XKR Portfolio 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show, a special edition version full of enhancements on the previous model. Available as a coupe or convertible, the Portfolio 2009 is equipped with the 420bhp 4.2 litre V8 supercharged engine coupled with a six-speed automatic gearbox.
Specific additions for this version are the exclusive Shadow Grey metallic paint colour, the new 20” Selena alloy rims and the milled aluminium vents in the side. In addition, the Portfolio will be equipped with the Alcon R Performance braking system, developed on the Nurburgring track, with 400mm six-pot discs at the front. The wheels show off the old Jaguar logo which
reminds us of the tradition and rich history of the British brand.
