An official video teaser starring the revamped Hyundai Genesis Coupe has been released by the South Korean carmaker. The new version of the model is powered by either a supercharged 2.0-litre 4-cylider unit or a naturally aspirated 3.8-litre V6 GDi engine, producing 275 and 350 hp respectively. The former gets a new Twin-Scroll turbocharger and a bigger intercooler that allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.2 seconds, while the latter has been given the direct injection, which contributes to provide it with a 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.9 seconds. Maximum torque values for the two versions are 372 and 400 Nm.

South Korea’s largest automaker Hyundai Motor Company uploaded a few images of the redesigned Genesis Coupe on its Facebook page. Judging by these pictures, the front end seems to be the part which underwent the most significant upgrading, now sporting the hexagonal-ish front grille that is becoming a signature feature of the Korean manufacturer.
The new Genesis Coupe will come with two engines: the Lambda 3.8 GDi and the Theta 2.0 TCI. In particular, the Lambda 3.8 GDi engine significantly increases performance and efficiency by directly injecting fuel into the cylinder. The new Genesis Coupe delivers maximum output of 345 hp and peak torque of 400 Nm,. Compared to Genesis Coupe’s previous engine, this represents an improvement of 46 hp and 39 Nm. The Theta 2.0 TCI engine uses a larger radiator intercooler for the high-performance turbocharger that cools air more effectively. Compared to its predecessor, this unit his increases maximum output and maximum torque by 64 hp and 78 Nm to 271 hp and 372 Nm respectively.
The new car has been unveiled on November 12 at the Korea Speed Festival 2011 in Yeongam, South Korea, and will be presented at the North American public during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit (January 9-22).

Hurricane SC will present its tuning of Hyundai Genesis Coupe at the upcoming 2011 SEMA. The car is the outcome of a joint effort with Hyundai US and Rhys Millen Racing, a company that has developed several racing versions of Hyunday models in the past. The standard 3.8-litres V6 is now supercharged and provides the car with 450 hp, while air intake and exhaust systems have been modified too. The car comes with brand new limited slip differential, 19″ Enkei rims coupled with Hankook sports tyres, Brembo braking system with 6-piston calipers on the front and a high quality Harman International audio system. No official pictures are currently available, although we know that Rhys Millen Racing has taken care of the aesthetics as well (see the official sketch above).
In 2012 the Genesis Coupe will undergo a restyling of its front end that will be used in certain markets only, and this could become an opportunity to launch a mass-produced version of this tuning. The resulting variation might end up being a little less powerful than the Hurricane SC Genesis Coupe, but it would surely become a fierce competitor in the sports coupe market as the rumored plans for a V8 version of the Genesis never actually took shape, not even as a concept.
