Whoever produced this video of the Mercedes SLS AMG should go into action film production, if they aren’t already. The SLS AMG finds itself in a stunt of looping the inside of a tunnel at high speed through the down force generated (thanks to a whole lot of computer graphics but I’ll believe it’s capable anyway). My favourite part, though, is at the end, when the stationary car suddenly flips its Gullwing doors open. Lovely.
Mercedes has released new pics of the SLS AMG together with some new videos before orders start this month for delivery in 2010. There is no other way to describe the new Gullwing than as an icon. It will surely become a classic in an age in which “classic” is over used and misunderstood.
The pics in this extensive gallery show once again the beautiful SLS AMG with its 6.2-litre V8, 571 hp and 650 Nm. The top speed of the Gullwing is 315 km/hr and with a weight of just 1,620 kg, it reaches 100 km/hr in 3.8 seconds. The videos show some driving footage as well studio shots where we get a 360 degree tour of inside and out. Everything is all after the jump, for your viewing (and auditory) pleasure.
The Mercedes SLS AMG configurator is online at the dedicated SLS minisite (details at “visualizer” section: http://www.mercedes-amg.com/#/sls). We will have live pics of the SLS AMG from Frankfurt, but in the meantime we can play around with the configurator either because we want to get our order right before 2010 or because we’ll never be able to buy one and so the internet, once again, is a consolation prize.
The Gullwing has many personalisation possibilities from the long list of SLS AMG options. The minisite also gives additional explanations as to the technical details, including the alluminium chassis, seven-speed transmission, further transaxle details etc etc. For the car freaks among you. Check out more pics on the Gullwing below.

What would you prefer, a brand new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG or the classic 300 SL, also known as Gullwing due to its doors? Although the new car has a lot of appeal, some would prefer to gather the appearence of 300 SL with the engine and refinement of the SLS. That has been made possible with the help of Gullwing GmbH, from Heyda, in Germany, which has recreated the car in its minimum details and given it the it is known for: Gullwing.
Although the replica really seems to be rigorously equal to the original car, it is, in fact, a modern car with a classic look. Under the hood there is a 5.5-litre V8 AMG engine that produces 405 bhp, managed by the seven-speed automatic transmission 7G-TRONIC. The car also features air-conditioning, ABS and a nostalgic Becker Mexico sound system that incorporates GPS navigation, Bluetooth, voice command and internet access.
This fantastic car will only be produced on demand, at a pace of 30 units every year. Price will be 165,000 euros, with taxes and equipment included. In 2010 the car will have its topless version, already named Roadster, and a 3.5-litre V6 option that pumps out 320 bhp and can be controlled by a six-speed manual gearbox. According to Jürgen Mohr, the car can handle up to 650 bhp, what advises us about a future version prone to present a performance that will make us take our hats off when the Gullwing crosses our way. If only we had that chance…
