No Alfa Giulietta sprint, just a rendering

By Alison

Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint

When our Italian colleagues at Autoblog.it published this rendering of an Alfa Giulietta sprint, more than one website got excited that plans were underway to produce one. But before Alfa fans get carried away, and so do I (we had a lovely 1967 Giulia sprint as our wedding car recently), a Giulietta sprint doesn’t seem to be in Sergio Marchionne’s plans for the Alfa Romeo brand.

The sprint model indicates a two-door coupé and, as the Italians point out, it wouldn’t be an impossible feat off the back of the new ‘Compact’ platform. The platform has been developed to be flexible and will probably lend itself to the development of other models, including the Alfa-Jeep compact Alfa SUVs said to be in development.

But is it a long way from a SUV and five-door hatch to a two door coupé? And would an Alfa Giulietta coupé model infringe on Alfa MiTo territory? The answer to both these questions is a possible yes, but with plans to retire the Alfa GT and the Alfa Brera, room could still be found in the line-up for a two-door coupé.

The Giulietta would seem a logical choice, both because it’s a new model and because there is a historical connection between the Giulietta name and two-door coupés. We also think that the Alfa Romeo line-up, with its tradition and style, really needs to have a coupé model, otherwise it’s just not sexy or Italian enough for us. Many Alfa fans would likely agree, but we’re still at just a rendering at this stage.

(See the Giulietta sprint excitement on WCF and Autoblog.com).

Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA: official video

By Alison

The four cylinder turbo under the bonnet of the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA certainly makes itself heard. We don’t get to hear it long, but we hear it. Whether you like the MiTo GTA or not, the engine has a reassuring low rumble to it that proves that this is not a tinny little car.

This official video is a little too long once we get into the rather boring sound track, but stick with it because a look at the Giulia Sprint is worth it. The video shows that the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA, prepared by Biscione in Milan, could prove itself worthy of the Gran Turismo Alleggerita title.

The best from the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept videos

By Alison

After so many spy shots, viral videos and news over the last week, we choose some of the more significant videos of the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept in Valencia. Alfa had released 26 videos in total, clearly very taken with the viral video marketing phenomenon.

For your vintage Alfa viewing pleasure, there are shots of the Giulia Sprint GTA in a friendly race with the MiTo. One of the videos appears to confirm that under the bonnet of the MiTo GTA sits a diesel engine. While this might worry some Alfa fans, in Switzerland at least, the TBi will be on offer. See after the jump for the videos.

Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA ed Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint

To continue our news on Italian cars today, we take another look at the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA concept. It has been seen all over the place in the last few days, and here are some videos of the snappy city car taken around the Valencia formula one city circuit.

In the photo above is also a beautiful little Giulia Sprint from times gone by. These videos come from the official MiTo GTA commercial being shot currently. See after the jump for the films.
