This is definitely going down as one of the funniest car commercials we’ve seen this year. Apart from the stunts the old lady pulls off in her little red Volkswagen Golf, the hilarious stuff is the dad checking out the second hand vehicle he’s buying for his son; thinking he’s got a great bargain in that typical way that dads have of thinking they know everything about cars. The commercial apparently finishes with the slogan “not every old lady is as reliable as a Golf”.

This Mercedes advertisement features Mika Hakkinen and Michael Schumacher in a winter driving campaign showing off Mercedes all-wheel drive technology. Schumacher takes the role of the “Sunday driver” which might be unfortunate from his point of view in light of his return to F1 racing and how this season panned out for him. Perhaps not so much a funny car video as more mildly amusing.
I recently had one of my first experiences driving in a near snow storm and it’s not pleasant - a couple of hours of fierce concentration, slow driving in not much more than third gear and the traction control system on the car actually creating some minor problems when some wheel spin would have come in handy, can all make for a tough winter evening trying to get back home. But this video really takes the cake for recent European snow driving as cars and snow plows alike get into trouble. The video after the jump recently showed on television in Europe as purportedly a bendy bus going crazy on ice in Moscow. Check it out and remember that snow tyres aren’t the answer to everything.
Here’s the full Top Gear Christmas episode called “The Three Wise Men” where the usual shenanigans take a turn for the bizarre worse as the trio makes its way across the war-torn middle east to get to Bethlehem. It’s times like these when I realise I might be a bit conservative when I worry about the trivialising of the war in Iraq for a British television show not exactly famous for its restrained respect for authority. But it’s certainly funny and that’s probably the point of it all so enjoy it while the video lasts!

You’ve got to the brits with their understated irony. In this hilarious video we see Tiff Needell scare the living daylights out of his colleague Jason Plato, both Fifth Gear testing the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet. Some of the funnier moments include quotes such as “corner! corner! That was a fiesty one”, simply “Jesus Christ!” and “oh Crikey! Woo woo woo - let me tell the story”. This is one to combat the Monday blues. Enjoy! If you want to see the full test version without the behind scenes fun, see our post here on Fifth Gear’s 911 Turbo cabrio test.
Who wouldn’t want to buy a Renault Clio RS after this funny car commercial? Whether it’s Renault or not, if we have to sit through ads on television, they may as well be interesting to watch. The Clio RS is a solid offering for a small, zippy compact and if you’re young enough to sing along to the Cranberries in your vehicle and generally make a fool of yourself at traffic lights while not caring, this could be the car for you. If it’s not, at least the advertising campaign is.

The Audi vs BMW challenge is getting serious with this funny picture of the Hong Kong Audi dealership adorned with an enormous BMW billboard above it. It seems that when the going gets tough…. After BMW’s not very exciting EfficientDynamics video with the prococious child genius, Audi has produced a “friendly competition” video and one called “the spell”. So far we have to give Audi and BMW 1-0 for creativity in advertising. Although having nabbed that space above the Audi dealership, BMW could be a step ahead in guerilla tactics. See the videos after the jump.

This video probably won’t last very long so get it while it’s hot. Ferrari president Luca Cordero de Montezemolo drove a Ferrari California, with Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso on board, into the gravel at the end of the world championships in Valencia. In hilarious scenes, Montezemolo gets himself deeper with the sand making a nice little mountain around the rear wheels.
With Massa and Alonso getting out of the car, a few technicians turn up to try and push it out, but in the end Montezemolo and the guys had to complete the round with a different vehicle. If you’re a bit anti-supercar, this is an example of the total impracticality of buying one. I love the fact the two Formula One drivers get the hell out of there and leave Montezemolo in his Ferrari, all at sea.

We wouldn’t normally just re-post videos from other other blogs but it’s Friday and we needed a laugh. The guys at Autoblog found this video which is one example of people who don’t know how to drive but still get themselves an expensive vehicle or one that will turn heads.
Like men who buy a Porsche or a Ferrari but can’t drive it? Well this one details an SUV driver, who are often the ones we love to hate anyway. I assume the BMW X5 has its brake and its accelerator in the same spot as every other car on the planet… but then again.

Here’s a cute video from Mini on Mini drivers vs non-Mini drivers. I get the feeling you could make your own at home, using the scenes from this as inspiration. I particularly like the “pet of Mini driver” but pick your favourite.
In this very funny and very English video, Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen from the McLaren Mercedes team, swap their racing suits to become black cabbies on the streets of London.
The video has been made to promote the new interactive “Taxi Grand Prix” game from Vodafone, official sponsor of the team. The two drivers race around on board two TX4 models with some Formula One extras to the black cabs. Enjoy the video!
