It looks like Skoda might produce a series version of its Fabia RS+ prototype which was presented at the 2010 Worthersee event. Inspired by the Fabia S2000 rally model, the Skoda Fabia RS+ marks the ultimate sports version of the little hatch which would apparently be particularly appealing to the UK market as a hotted up Fabia vRS.
The UK has already taken on board models like the Renault Clio RS Cup and the Megane R26R and the Fabia RS could present another serious hot hatch at a reasonable cost. The vehicle has a very distinctive look (at least in prototype form) and some of the aesthetics could be carried onto a production model, including the larger front bumper and rear diffuser.
The Fabia RS production version would keep its 1.4-litre engine with 180 hp but should get new wheels and modifications to the suspension system. While a tuned version would be particularly interesting, the modifications may turn up as after-market dealer options, but this is one to watch all the same.

The Skoda Fabia RS equipped with the same 1.4-litre TSI engine with 180 hp as the Volkswagen Polo GTI and the Seat Ibiza Cupra, could be considered as giving similar performance as those two cars but at a lower price. We personally are not sold on the style of the Fabia RS so much, but that’s probably not something that will worry purchasers too much.
As the guys at Autocar say, not only is the Fabia RS snappy in its drive at the top end, through mid-range revs it’s also quite flexible. The seven-speed DSG gearbox makes for a fun drive, but not as fun as a manual would prove. Given it’s design, while it might not be the most attractrive hot hatch around it’s practical and roomy and comes in a station wagon, too.
Volkswagen has undercut its own Polo GTI on price with the Skoda, meaning you can get plenty of power for less money than the Polo or the Ibiza Cupra mentioned before. In the 90-second verdict, there’s not a lot of room to talk about whether that lower price greatly affects the quality of the vehicle but one thing is for sure - you’re still getting a zippy little hatch.
The Skoda Fabia RS and Skoda Octavia RS will debut at the 2010 Worthersee event in Austria in the company’s first appearance at the event. Both the Fabia and Octavia are based on vRS models, with the Skoda Fabia RS taking inspiration from the S2000 rally car.
Other features of the Fabia RS+ include black front grille, black spoilers at the front and rear, and black-tinted headlights, along with a new diffuser and air intake vents in the bonnet. On the inside we get sports seats and in-tint colour finish which matches the lime-green and grey exterior combination.
The new Skoda Octavia RS+ also gets the same upgrades and colours as the more extreme Fabia model, and has rear LED lights in addition. The new Fabia RS+ is equipped with the 180 hp, 1.4 TSI engine of the standard RS version. In addition to these models, seen in the sketches below, two Fabia S2000 rally cars will also be on show at Worthersee.
