The Mercedes E63 AMG is a hot-looking and fast-running new AMG model from the brand that has been revealed at the 2011 New York Auto Show. The E63 AMG is equipped with the new 5.5-litre V8 twin turbo M157 engine which we’ve already seen on the Mercedes CLS 63 AMG. The E-Class AMG will be offered in two powersteps of 525 and 557 hp. The later is the AMG Performance Package, which also takes torque from 700 to 800 Nm.
According to Mercedes, the new V8, which gets Start&Stop technology, consumes 22 percent less fuel that the previous model, down to 9.8 l/100 km with CO2 emissions of 230 g/km. Transmission is the seven-speed Speedshift MCT gearbox with driving modes of Controlled Efficiency, Sport, Sport+ and Manual. Handling is managed by the AMG Ride Control system with seven different suspension settings and a new hydro-electric steering set-up.
New 18-inch wheels get 255/40 tyres up front and 285/35 at the rear. An optional carbon-ceramic braking system is available which reduces the brake weight by 40 percent. The E63 AMG gets to 100 km/hr in 4.3 seconds, and has a top speed of 250 km/hr. That can be raised to 300 km/hr with a new package which also includes a sports driving course. The AMG Performance Package throws in a carbon-fibre engine cover, Alcantara sports steering wheel, red brake callipers and some carbon-fibre trim on the front bumper.
In this video, a hot Susie Stoddart takes the Mercedes E63 AMG V8 with 518 hp out for a drive, dressed to kill for what would be a night on the town. I still don’t believe she did those slides in heels, but then that could just be my cynicism coming out, or my own need to change my shoes between driving and dancing at the disco.

If it’s middle-aged men with grey hair who get to drive the Mercedes E63 AMG, then I want to be a middle-aged man with grey hair who can drive like this. If you thought Mercedes sedans were just for people like your dad, you might want to reconsider (the car or who you thought your father was). The Mercedes E63 AMG still has the 6.2-litre V8 AMG engine, and although the new 5.5-litre (to appear on the new Mercedes CLS) will have more horse power and plenty of torque, after seeing this video we wonder if it will give us quite the same emotion…

After being served a notice and having his Mercedes C 63 AMG impounded, McLaren F1 driver Lewis Hamilton could become the world’s most famous and capable hoon - or at least Australia’s most famous and capable, according to Car Advice. On practicing a few burn outs outside the Albert Park F1 circuit, Hamilton was served a summons and had his car impounded in what will go down as Australia’s most high profile “hoon” arrest.
As Car Advice reports, Hamilton is most likely the most famous hoon ever arrested in the state of Victoria, Australia, and certainly the richest, earning more than 22 million euros a year. He joins a list of famous hoons, including:
Victoria’s youngest hoon, Laney Frankland, 5, whose 49cc minibike was impounded when Victorian police swooped as the girl rode the bike in parkland under parental supervision. The title of oldest Victorian hoon is also hotly contested – on February 28 this year a 90-year-old man stormed past the previous 80-year-old 150km/h record holder to become the state’s oldest hoon after driving drunk at more than 20km/h over the speed limit.

The guys from Motor Trend love their Cadillac CTS-V. The American sports sedan has 556 hp and 750 Nm of torque, and has already beaten the BMW M5 and the new Jaguar XFR in two previous challenges from Motor Trend. This time, though, they’re trying it against the Mercedes E 63 AMG sports sedan offering.
The Mercedes has 525 hp and 630 Nm of torque, but performance between the two is very close with the Cadillac making it to 100 km/hr in 4.5 seconds and with a top speed of 308 km/hr. The E 63 has a top speed of 300 km/hr but is slightly faster in the sprint to 100 km/hr, completing it in 4.2 seconds.
The E 63 is equipped with some impressive Mercedes/AMG technology, with a 6.2-litre V8 engine and super-fast seven speed paddle shift which has a sports mode option (this might also explain the 40,000 euros more on the price tag). It’s clear the Americans love their Cadillac CTS-V, but this time Mercedes might just have the edge.
More “best cars for 2009″ news comes with Autobild readers (unsurprisingly?) voting the Mercedes E63 AMG the best sports sedan of the year. Second in the list was the Audi RS6, 11 percentage points behind the Mercedes. If you like the E63 AMG, you’d best get your cheque book out because it costs somewhere around the 111,500 euros mark. The E63 AMG station wagon, which will be on the market from February next year, will have a slightly higher cost again.
The Mercedes E63 AMG has been confirmed in its 6.2 litre V8 “hand-made” at 525 hp and 630 Nm, with dynamism and versatility being the key to this project. The frightening performance, with 0-100 reached in 4.5 seconds, isn’t the only focus, though.
The first example of cutting edge technology comes with the Speedshift MCT transmission at seven-speeds with paddle shift and multidisc wet clutch, previously presented on the SL63. Other features include Controlled Efficiency, Sport, Sport Plus, and Manual modes, with AMG Drive Unit and throttle-blipping function.
Chassis and suspension technology has also been updated, with an all new electronics system called AMG Ride Control, though emissions and consumption themes still take over, even with this incredibly powerful vehicle. Fuel consumption is down by 12 percent at 12.6 litres per 100 km.

Here is a teaser of the Mercedes E-class 63 AMG before its New York auto show debut, revealing the front end of the E63. Designing and finetuning of the 6.2 litre V8 have been entrusted to Mika Häkkinen and Klaus Ludwig.
A complete update of the mechanics see a shift in power up to 525 hp, with some modifications to handling and chassis borrowed from the C63 AMG. Below a couple of spy shots before next month’s debut.
