Plenty of spy shots have been floating around the internet, but here are the first official pics of the Mercedes E Class escaped from under lock and key and leaked to the web.

The new sedan has all the elegance you’d expect, with a touch of fascinating aristocracy from Mercedes. The new headlights change the look significantly, although the side and rear looks awkward - as though the designers couldn’t quite get the right mix of class and sports style.

More galleries are set to come after these first leaked images of the Mercedes Class E, and we’ll also wait to see it in the flesh to decide.

If you look closely at this for a few seconds and then close your eyes, you might be able to imagine these spy shots of the Mercedes E Class without the camouflage. While we now have a good idea of the look of this new Mercedes, it’s probably best to withold judgment until the sedan has been officially revealed.

The only consideration we will make is its status - this is a Mercedes star to all effect. While the stylistic jump to from the current generation is a risky one, it looks like the W212 has achieved the refined elegance we would expect.

Audi and BMW are definitely more sporty, but if you’re looking for traditional luxury and quality, then you’re looking for a Mercedes. The V6 and V8 diesel and petrol engines are perfect for this car, and even a hybrid (while ethically impossible on such a charismatic vehicle) could be adapted.

Look it in the face and you will see a sedan, but to be more precise this is a classic sports hatch-back. The Mercedes Fascination concept is, in fact, a sportback concept car that anticipates the next generation E Class. Though it’s likely to turn out that this concept car is too bold and brash to be taken into production as the next E Class.

Dominating the Mercedes-Benz stand at the Paris show will be two world premieres, both very different from each other. The first is the the original Fascination concept, which under its deceptive mantel, hides a shooting brake dynamism that could be in the style of the E Class, CLK and perhaps even a CLK shooting brake. The second is the C250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, that without any stylistic showing off, is all about first class technical concepts.

Characterising this new C Class version is the next generation four cylinder diesel, the CDI 2.1 litre. The C250 will be the highest performance vehicle of these proposed at the show.

The numbers really show the modernity of this project: 2.1 litres, 204hp, 500Nm (record for the two-litre category), along with fuel consumption at 5.2 l/100km, and with emissions at 130 g/km. The engine is Euro 6-ready, and the car includes other features such as refined aerodynamics and intelligent steering.
