The Citroen C6 is set to get a makeover into a seriously environmental and economical car, with a new PSA hybrid drivetrain that will reduce CO2 emissions to 100 g/km.

The C6 would use a combination of a 163 hp turbodiesel engine to power the front wheels, and a single electric motor driving the rear wheels. The layout is set to reflect the 3008 hybrid, and a further element will be the use of a start-stop system.

The Eco C6 will become highly competitive against its German and Japanese counterparts, featuring new aerodynamics with low-resistance tyres and a flat underbody. It is set to become a concept car, but with no word on whether it will make it to production. Given the Peugeot-Citroen collaboration however, on a hybrid drivetrain, we should see eco versions of the Citroen C4 and Peugeot 308, with the C5 and 407 replacements certainly having production models.

The Peugeot 4007 - the SUV from the Lion’s Lair developed jointly with Mitsubishi - will receive a mid-career restyling before the end of the year. The updated 4007 could be unveiled in September, on the occasion of the next Frankfurt Auto Show. At the same time, at the German festival the restyled Citroen C-Crosser could be presented, which, like the 4007, was also born from the Mitsubishi Outlander. The biggest change in the two French SUVs will be the adoption of the new 3.0-liter V6 HDi engine with 240 hp which just made its debut under the hoods of the Citroen C5 and the C6.

Sales of the Peugeot 407 are in complete freefall and after a positive career, the 407 was produced in a 38.2 percent reduction in 2008, also due to internal competition with the Citroen C5. As Peugeot farewells its sedan though, preparations are underway for its heir.

Here we see renderings of the new Peugeot 408, which should offer the same contents that have made the C5 so successful: high technology, rational design and German style. The new 408 will share the same platform as its Citroen cousin, and the two cars will be similar in dimension. These renders show a pleasantly sleek Peugeot 408 sedan, as we wait for future news.

The Fiat 500 has been voted the “2009 Design Car of the Year” at the New York auto show, by a panel of 59 journalists from 25 countries. The small, but stylish, 500 won out of 51 candidates, of which the finalists were the Fiat 500, the Citroen C5 and the Jaguar XF.
