Chevrolet releases a new official photo gallery picturing the new Camaro ZL1 in both coupe and convertible body types. The car is pushed by a 6.2-litre V8 engine delivering 580 hp and 754 Nm (556 lb-ft) of peak torque and coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox with dual clutch, but an automatic transmission option will also be made available. The model goes from standstill to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.9 seconds and reaches 296 km/h (184 mph) of top speed.

The new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is equipped with the Performance Traction Management, a new traction and stability system borrowed from Corvette ZR1 that includes launch control and allows drivers to tailor a range of electronic management systems, from traction to stability to steering. The model made the headlines just a few months ago when it recorded a staggering 7′:41″.27 lap time at the Nurburgring, leaving the likes of the likes of Porsche 911 GT3, Corvette ZR1 and Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV behind.

The coupe version of the Camaro ZL1 will enter the US market this coming Spring with a price-tag of 54.995 $ (approximately 43,000 € / 35,700 £), while its convertible counterpart will become available in the Summer with a price in the 60,000 $ area (47,000 € / 39,000 £).

General Motors will show up at the 2011 SEMA with several Corvette and Camaro versions which anticipate a number of tuning packages that will soon be made available for its customer base. Let’s look through Chevy’s line up for the upcoming SEMA more closely. Chevrolet Camaro Red Zone Concept, based on the convertible model, uses an unusual Crystal Claret paintjob and is equipped with 21″ alloys, Pedders suspension, lowered ride height, leather upholstery and top notch finishing. Camaro Synergy Series Concept comes with a Silver Ice and black stripes paintjob, different badges, aerodynamic kit, 21″ alloys, red Brembo calipers, black leather upholstery with red stitching and sporty pedals.

Chevrolet Camaro 1LE Concept puts together all the sporty accessories of both SS and ZL1 versions: Victory Red paintjob with Satin Black inserts, Magnetic Ride Control suspension, electric power steering, 20″ alloys, Brembo calipers, ZL1 exhaust system, Light Stone black leather upholstery mated with Graphite finishing. Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Carbon Concept boasts a number of new carbon fibre accessories that will also be made available for the upcoming new model, which will hit the market in 2012, and comes with an Ashen Gray paintjob that will soon be available in Chevy’s standard options list. Carbon fibre bits aside, other remarkable features of this version are 20″ alloy wheels, Brembo brakes, Magnetic Ride Control suspension, new double muffler exhaust system and sports pedals.

As for the Corvette, it will be represented at the SEMA by two concept cars. The Carlisle Blue Grand Sport Concept is a tribute to the 30th anniversary of one of the most important Corvette convention in the US, the “Corvettes at Carlisle”, and uses a brand new Carlisle Blue color scheme with white stripes and Torque 2 18″ and 19″ alloys. Other highlights of this model include Magnetic Ride Control suspension, sporty exhaust system, LS3 V8 engine, 6-speed manual transmission, Goodyear F1 Supercar tyres and rear wing. The other Corvette concept in Vegas will be the Z06 Ron Fellows “Hall of Fame” Tribute (pictured above), featuring Torch Red paint job with exclusive graphics, the whole Z07 package, Magnetic Ride Control suspension and carbon fiber aerodynamic kit. A while ago a twitt from a Chevrolet executive stated that Camaro ZL1 had completed the Nurburgring north course in just 7 minutes and 41 seconds, an incredible lap time that was yet to be made official when the news first came out on a popular social network. The achievement was so astonishing that we just had to report the news, but since no official confirmation was available at the time, we also had to put a question mark at the end of the article’s head title.

A few days later Chevrolet officially confiremed that the ZL1 did actually lapped the Nurburgring in 7:41.27 and released the above video as evidence, featuring Aaron Link showing us how ‘easy’ it was to do better than the likes of Porsche 911 GT3, Corvette ZR1 and Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV. Camaro Performance’s test driver also admitted that the car turned out to be “just perfect”, providing its absolute best while facing the famous Fuchsröhre corners.

Just to put all that into perspective, Camaro ZL1 laptime is 40 seconds better than what the Camaro SS did on the same track just two years ago.

One twitt is all it took to include Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the exclusive club of the fastest sportscars available today on the market, ranking above Porsche 911 GT3 (997 Mk1), Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and Audi R8 5.2 FSI. This is because one GM executive wrote that the most sporty version of the Camaro “lapped Nurburgring in 7.41.27”, which is 52 seconds away from the all time record for road-legal cars but still is a few tenths less than the best lap time from Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV and Porsche 911 GT2.

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is powered by a turbocharged V8 6.2 litres that delivers 580 Hp and 754 Nm, with either a 6 speed manual transmission or an automatic gearbox with Drive, Sport e Manual modes. However, we will be waiting for an official confirmation of the lap time.
