The dr5 is debuting for the DR range, which will include the all wheel drive system already seen on the SUV. The vehicle is Italian, but with Chinese origin, and is the first from the company established by Massimo Di Risio. The dr5 is equipped with a 2.0 litre petrol engine with 128hp, developed by AVL and built by Acteco - the engine division of Chery.

A turbodiesel 1.9 litre Multijet with 120 hp will also be available, supplied by Fiat Powertrain. Compared to the front wheel drive version, the dr5i AWD has an ITM 3e system from Borg Warner that distributes power to the back wheels. It works like an electromagnetic friction. The transmission is a five speed manual, and no automatic shift is currently planned.

The dr5i has all the usual aspects of the range with good options and a low price point. The 2.0 litre version will be sold for 18,830 euros, while a twin-fuel (petrol and LPG) version is also available for that price. The natural gas version costs 1,000 euros more.

The new Chery A3 might not only worry Audi for its name, it also represents an important model for the Chinese company, with a touch of European style. The new vehicle will be available in hatchback and sedan versions, with a four cylinder engine at 1.6 and 1.8 litres. The price should start at about 8,900 euros.

Curiously, the photos show a five door Chery A3 with the rear handle masked in Alfa 147 style, with a German numberplate. While currently designed for China’s local market, a possible European debut could be on the cards for the future. The process of an appearance in Europe is already underway thanks to Italy and the DR1 model.

The Bologna Motor Show is hosting the world premiere of the DR1 car, the third example produced from the Italian-Chinese collaboration after the DR5 and DR3 sports utilities.

The DR1 is a city car which places the company in the crowded super mini segment, with an agreement with Chinese manufacturer Chery to supply the engine: a 1.3L, 83hp version available in GPL fuelling option with 78hp.

Performance figures see this car with a maximum speed of 156 km/hr and 12.1 seconds to reach 100 km/hr. Sales will start sometime in 2009.

At the Chinese Guangzhou motor show, the new Chery M14CC debuted. This is quite an attractive coupè cabriolet, with an unusual style for the Chinese market, that was designed by Italian motorcar design house, Pininfarina.

The Pininfarina cabriolet features a metal folding roof, and was voted the Best New Car concept at the Shanghai show in 2005. The M14CC is only the latest in the Pininfarina-Chery collaboration which started in 2004.
