Legendary designer and Enzo Ferrari’s favourite body-maker, Sergio Scaglietti died today in his house in Modena, aged 91. Born in 1920, he got to know and work with Enzo Ferrari in the late 30s, and in 1951 he founded the famous Carrozzeria Scaglietti - placed right in front of Ferrari’s plant in Maranello - which had been responsible for the the design of most Ferrari’s racing models of the 50s and 60s. Among his most famous creations we need to mention 1957’s 250 California Spider, 1958’s 250 Testa Rossa and 1962’s 250 GTO.

Sergio Scaglietti was not only Enzo Ferrari’s coachbuilder of choice, he was also one of the few autentic friends of the “Drake”. To pay homage to Sergio Scaglietti’s contribution to its history, Ferrari even named its 2004’s 612 Coupe model after him.
