Wooden Porsche 911: giant matchsticks create bizarre artwork

By Alison

Matchstick wooden Porsche 911

This wooden Porsche 911 looks like it was made from giant matchsticks and safely falls into the weird car creations category, no questions asked. The 911 from wood was created by Alessandro Gedda and has an enormous zipper thingy down the middle. I quote “to create the sense of a superior, tailor-made object”. Clear? As mud. If you pulled the wooden 911 apart and laid all the pieces end-to-end you’d have 1,500 metres of wooden sticks. And this handy statistic concludes our bizarre car post for the day.

Mini "Wash Me" art

By Alison

Mini Wash Me artbook

We’ve all had someone write something in the dust of our car when we’d been a little too long between washes, and in light of this, Mini has produced a “Mini Wash Me” art book featuring artists that have worked with automobiles for the first time.

Ten artists have produced works for the project: Smash137, Fabian Bertschinger, Marisa Pichler and Gigi Burn, Tika, Euro, Aurèle Sack, Stefan Ege and Seak, August, Rémi Jaccard, and Dieter Meier.

The book has been produced in Zurick by designer Alfredo Häberli, author Michèle Roten and Professor Jacqueline Otten from the Design Department at the Zurich University of Arts. 2,000 copies of the book will be available from November, showing Mini’s long term link with the art world and pop culture. For more information, see www.washme.ch and check out the lovely gallery below.

Fiat Street Art Show at Motor Show 2008

At the Bologna Motor Show, Fiat has decorated some of its cars with work from Italian street artists, keeping to a theme of ecology. Eight street artists have let their imaginations loose on the Fiat range, and you can see their work in the following gallery.

The Grande Punto and Fiorino Qubo were decorated by artists El Gato Chimney and Marco Teatro. A charity auction will be held at the end of the end of the motor show, selling the panels from the cars and the Grande Punto by TVBoy, with proceeds going to ONLUS L’albero della vita (the Tree of Life),
