We took for granted the fact that if Jaguar were to throw itself into the SUV mix, in could obfuscate the Land Rover products, and so the Jaguar future will focus on sports vehicles, as revealed by Ratan Tata. No Jaguar SUV is in the making.
In the course of an interview with Automotive News, the president of the Indian industrial group has confirmed face-lifts for the R-R version of the Xk, with 2010 being set as the date for the debut of the new Jaguar Xj. As such, Tata has confirmed what market expectations were already.

While SUVs are generally considered a sure-fire way of gaining sales, crisis or no crisis, the CEO of Jaguar’s parent company, Ratan Tata, has given a firm ‘no’ to any questions regarding whether Jaguar would add a SUV to its portfolio or not.
It appears that Tata will be focussing on the strong points of the traditional Jaguar offering in 2009, with future models debuting mostly as sports cars and sedans. This would also protect the Land Rover brand, sister company to Jaguar, as the latter would provide no competition in the SUV sector.
