Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse: new video available

By Adrian

Bugatti releases a new video starring the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, the convertible variant of the Veyron Super Sport which uses the same, terrific 8.0-litre quad turbo W16 engine with new superchargers and bigger intercoolers. This outstanding engine is credited with an output of 1,200 hp with 1,500 Nm of maximum torque that pushes the car from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.6 seconds, from 0 to 200 km/h in 7.1 seconds and can make it rach a top speed in excess of 400 km/h (about 250 mph).

The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse measures 4,462 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width and 1,190 mm in height, and can come with an all-wheel drive system, a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, and a set of carbon-ceramic brakes, 400 mm at the front and 380 mm at the back. The model also features three modes of suspension settings: Standard, Handling and Top Speed. The Top Speed one is the setting selected for driving at speeds of over 375 km/k (233 mph).

In order to compensate the lack of a proper roof, Bugatti’s engineers worked on the chassis of the car to make it stiffer, making also the NACA air intakes larger, making them larger. This modification will allow its powerful W16 unit to get the right cooling when driving with the soft top down. Simply put, this is the fastest serially produced convertible car in automotive history.

Bugatti presenta la Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, versione cabrio della Super Sport

Bugatti has introduced Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse (Vitesse means speed in French), a convertible based on the topless Veyron Grand Sport but with a Veyron Super Sport engine, which will be premiered at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The 8.0 l quad-turbocharged W16 engine, thanks to 16 cylinders, four enlarged turbochargers and ten radiators, delivers a staggering 1,200 hp and 1,500 Nm of torque.

It slightly differs from the original motor due to the fact that Moslheim technicians had to make sure the engine captures the right amount of air when driving with the top off. Some parts of the chassis have also been changed in order to make the structure more rigid.

And if we take into consideration that the Super Sport has set the World Record for the average top speed achieved on a two-way run, registering 431 km/h (268 mph), it’s probably safe to say that the Vitesse is about to be crowned the world’s fastest convertible on the market.

Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Middle East Edition unveiled

By Adrian

Le tre nuove versioni della Veyron Grand Sport

In conjunction with Veyron Grand Sport Middle East Edition official unveiling at the Dubai International Motor Show (10-14 November), Bugatti released a few images of the three versions of the model, which boast different colors, trims and finishing but share exactly the same powertrain. The “entry level” model of this special Veyron Grand Sport edition is priced at 1,58 million Euros, has a yellow livery with carbon fiber inserts and black rims. The color-matching interior uses leather seats, steering wheel and gear lever knob with carbon fiber finishing.

Priced at 1.74 million Euros, the second Veyron Grand Sport Middle East uses a bodywork made of blue carbon fiber panels for the upper side and shiny anodized aluminum for the bottom part - creating quite a captivating contrast - while its polished aluminum rims boast a two-tone finishing just like front grill and wing mirrors shells. This version uses orange upholstery for the seats and blue leather for the dashboard, with some carbon fibre bits here and there.

The third version comes with the same 1.74 million Euros price tag and uses green carbon fiber panels and polished aluminum for bodywork, but with a different layout. Same set of colors for the passenger compartment. Bugatti announced that out of the 150 models that will be produced for the Middle East Edition, 105 are still up for sale.

Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport l'Or Blanc video

By Alison

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is probably the most fitting setting for the debut of the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport l’Or Blanc, and here is the first video of the car to be taken. Looking like a blue atlantic wave, the l’Or Blanc is possibly the world’s first porcelain car, in the sense that the special paint job was created in collaboration with the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur, or the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin.

The Bugatti l’Or Blanc video also gives us a look at the interior, which looks like the kind of space that would make you feel a bit grubby no matter what you’re wearing or when you last had a shower. The slow roll into the Concours could be so as not to get a scratch on the unique paintwork. Check it out in the video.

Rotary Supercars vs Bugatti

By Alison

Bugatti_Veyron_Grand_Sport_Super_Sport

The gloves are off for the battle of the world’s fastest car with recent reports that Bugatti is planning to keep its crown now disputed by Rotary Supercars. The latter has announced that one of its upcoming models will have a new eight-rotor rotary engine which develops a huge 2,801 hp and nothing short of 3,494 Nm of torque.

So where does that leave Bugatti? While developing its Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Super Sport, reports recently from Car indicate that Bugatti has every intention of being the fastest on the planet. And this isn’t a little boys game in the school yard - Wolfgang Durheimer is quoted as saying that producing the world’s fastest cars is a cornerstone of modern Bugatti philosophy.

Bugatti has a Guinness World Record with its Super Sport as the fastest production car in existence at nearly 430 km/hr. Rotary Supercars says its new eight-rotor engine can get to 100 km/hr in less than one second, and has a top speed of 450 km/hr. While the company has still yet to reveal a car, the first Rotary Supercars model is set to be revealed at the Top Marques Monaco event in 2012.

With Bugatti’s new Veyron Grand Sport Super Sport set to have a top speed of more than the 405 km/hr of the Grand Sport with its top on, that’s still well short of Rotary Supercars claims. And with Bugatti’s promise that it would have to respond to any competitor producing something faster, we might get a new Bugatti on the market to do so. We’re certainly not complaining. Now it’s back over to Bugatti for a response….

Bijan Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport

By Alison

This is a very understated video to salute someone with such flamboyance, but we think it works best this way. After designing a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport, world-famous designer Bijan Pakzad passed away suddenly from a stroke. This is a video tribute to him and his Veyron design from Achim Anscheidt, Bugatti head of design. The video takes us through the design features, mostly including shiny aluminium and yellow two-tone exterior, and interior yellow and carbonfibre contrast - personally designed by the eccentric Bijan who used his trademark style. Watch through to the end of the video and there is a lovely little anecdote, with much pathos, regarding a Bijan perfume bottle.
