BMW X6 M: videos, pictures and info released

BMW X6 M facelift

Following the introduction of the facelifted X6, Bmw presents the restyled version of the most powerful and aggressive version of the X6 family, the X6 M. The car doesn’t show any radical change, sporting a new layout with LED technology for both head and tail lights as well as a slightly different front bumper. Besides that, the model comes with some new color option for the exterior and new fabrics for the cabin.

Technically speaking, the facelifted X6 M retains the 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 of the previous model, producing 547 hp at 6,000 rpm and 678 Nm (502 ft-lb) of peak torque between 1,500 and 5,650 rpm. This unit pushes the car from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). The new SUV from the German manufacturer - or SAV, as Bmw likes to define it - comes with standard Adaptive Drive, air suspension, EDC, anti-roll bar and a braking system with 396 mm discs on the front and 386 mm at the back. The model rolls on 20″ wheels fitted with 275/40 tyres on the front axle and 315/35 on the rear.

Bmw has released a full photo gallery picturing the new model as well as a couple of short promo that you can watch by clicking on the ‘Continue reading’ link below the thumbnails.

BMW X6 facelift: first official images and info available

By Adrian

Nuova BMW X6 2012

BMW releases the first official info about the new X6, releasing also a photo gallery picturing the new version of the Sports Activity Coupe. Aesthetic changes aside, the main new feature of the new range is the addition of the brand new 3.0-litre flat-six Triturbo FH81 unit - that will equip the X6 M50d - to its engine line-up, which delivers 381 hp and 740 Nm of torque between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm. This engine is said to be the most powerful 6-cylinder diesel engine of the world and - in combination with a 8-speed automatic gearbox courtesy of German specialist ZF - is capable of pushing the X6 M50d from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.3 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). Average fuel consumption is rated at 7.7 l/100 km, with 204 g/km of CO2 emission.

From an aesthetic point of view, the restyled X6 gets newly designed bi-xenon head lamps, front grille, fog lights and tail lights with LED technology. Bmw also introduced new color options for the livery, namely Orion Silver Metallic, Midnight Blue Metallic and Marrakech Brown Metallic. As an optional extra, a different bonnet with a ‘power dome’ will also be made available to provide the most powerful versions of the model with a more aggressive visual look.

Bmw releases another video teaser of the M-badged X6

By Adrian

BMW has released a second video teasing a mysterious M-version of X6, which is said to be the X6 M50d, meaning the first ever M-badged vehicle with a diesel engine. The new model is described by BMW Head of Global Sales and Marketing, Mr. Brian Watts, as “a new kind of car” which makes you feel on a race track on every road, hence fully deserving of the M-badge. Mr. Thomas Schemera, Director of Sales of the M-Division, goes even further, saying that the new car looks and sounds “like a sports machine“. The X6 M50d is expected to use a tri-turbo 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine delivering 375 hp and 740 Nm (546 lb/ft) of maximum torque. This unit should enable the crossover to go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 5 seconds.

G-Power BMW X6 M Typhoon

German tuner G-Power presented a new wide-body kit for the BMW X6 called ‘M Typhoon’. Mysterious BMW X6 M video teaser surfaces on the web

By Adrian

An official video teaser starring a mysterious Bmw X6 whizzing around some mountain roads in Europe has surfaced on the internet. The pictured model can be heard clearly in this footage but, in order to build up suspense, many details of its design have been blurred, adding up to both mystery and hype. However, at the very end of the clip there’s the well-known M-Sport division logo popping up on the screen, something that would make us believe that the model is the rumored - but never confirmed - X6 M550d. In that case, the model would also become the very first diesel vehicle to carry the notorious ‘M’ badge.

No further info on the subject are currently available, although this clip seems to be just the first instalment of a series of videos that will probably become available pretty soon. We will be waiting for them to shed some light on this project.

Bmw X6 Bruiser by CLP Automotive

By Adrian

CLP Automotive Bmw X6 Bruiser

German tuner CLP Automotive introduces its own rendition of Bmw X6, re-named ‘Bruiser’. A lot of work has been done on the aesthetics of the car with the new front bumper with big central air shaft, wider wheel arches, redesigned side skirts with unique door panels and, new rear bumper with integrated diffuser and tailgate spoiler, but there are also more ‘classy’ touches such as blackened grilles and ‘eyelids’ for the head lights. The two-tone 23″ alloys are quite impactful too, while the CLP Automotive offers also a new exhaust system.

The whole kit inclusive of the exhaust will be available with a price tag of about 10,000 Euros, fitting not included.

BMW X6: spy shots

By Adrian

BMW X6: spy shots

More spy shots of the upcoming restyled X6 are now available, now showing what should be the definitive bumpers. Please note the lower air intakes and the new fog-lights position. The pictured mule also shows front and rear lights’ outlines that are still slightly disguised, probably in an attempt to hide the LED lights that both ends should receive on the final version. Rumors that in Europe a tri-turbo 3.0-litres 400 hp engine diesel unit will join the fold of the current X6’s engine range are still strong, while a Active Hybrid variation has been already ruled out.

As previously reported, the revamped X6 is expected to hit the showrooms in Spring 2012, featuring just minor changes in the wait of a brand new model that will replace the current version.

BMW X6 facelift: spy shots

By Adrian

BMW X6 facelift

BMW is currently working on a small facelift for the X6, just to keep the model fresh for some more years until its successor will come. In comparison to the original X6 - launched in 2008 - this restyled version will feature just some minor changes. The most remarkable one should be the new headlights, featuring squared off ‘angel eyes’ rings and LED daytimers (very similar to the ones we have seen on the BMW 1 series). Rear lights as well will get new graphics and will adopt BMW´s latest LED design, to match the rest of BMW’s line up. There will also be smaller changes to the bumpers, although the front bumper of the pictured prototype is still the same one that is being used on the current version of the car.

Way more interesting are the news concerning the mechanical side as a new six cylinder 3.0 tri-turbo diesel engine - which will deliver 750Nm of torque and a maximum power of around 390hp - will be made available for the M50d. The revamped X6 is scheduled to enter the market in spring 2012.

BMW X4 rendering

By Alison

BMW X4 rendering

Here’s one of the first BMW X4 renderings in which we can see that it won’t be an oversized X3, although Theophilus Chin has imagined it as rather an undersized BMW X6. In fact, BMW has itself declared that the X4 will be quite different from the X3 and it seems the two could function together much like the relationship between the X5 and the X6 - one a traditional SUV style and other the coupé-crossover mix so in vogue at the moment.

According to recent rumours, the X4 project is on stand-by at the moment as BMW hashes out its X5/X6 platform. The current plan seems to be to share as many components as possible across the SUV line, the X3 included, although that won’t be easy with the two different styles as mentioned above.

The BMW X4 seems to have been given the unofficial go-ahead after Porsche announced its Porsche Cajun model is going to production. And if the X4 does get to production, the bigger X6 could raise its stakes slightly in the luxury department come the next generation. It’s almost astounding that there is so much room for SUVs and Crossovers, especially with so many from the German brands, but there seems no slowing in the segment right now.

Mercedes MLC coupe

By Alison

2012 Mercedes M-Class official pics

The idea of a Mercedes M-Class coupé which will compete with the BMW X6 is not particularly appealing, but given the success of the X6 rival, we’re surprised it’s taken Mercedes this long to announce its competitor. While the company probably waited to see if BMW’s sedan-coupe-SUV thingy wasn’t just a very large flash in the pan, it now won’t have its SUV-coupe M-Class competitor on the market until about 2015.

With brands battling it out both in smaller, fuel-saving compact cars and on the big car front, the Mercedes coupe-crossover will be based on the 2012 M-Class restyled model and could be called the MLC (or GLS as previously rumoured). The model is being designed specifically with the US car market in mind and the battle among luxury brands occurring there.

There are not a lot of details on the vehicle itself, as the announcement from Automotive News is in the context of Mercedes’ investment in the US Tuscaloosa plant, but we expect something quite similar to the 2012 M-Class, with the same engine range, a possible hybrid version and all the luxury you could poke the rakish rear at. Renderings to come, no doubt.

BMW X6 made from leather

BMW X6 made from leather

Would you like leather with your BMW X6? Both inside and out…? This particular version has been built by a Russian BMW owner, and includes X6 exterior body panels made from leather. The effect is something like a giant mammal with wheels. In case the whole leather thing wasn’t enough, additional touches include a new bonnet and blacked-out wheels with chrome border. We’d love to talk to the tannery who made this possible.
