BMW 5-Series station wagon renderings

BMW 5-Series station wagon rendering

After the new BMW 5-Series sedan was released, here are renderings of what the 5-Series touring wagon might look like. Taking the front of the sedan, the 5-Series wagon will share a similar platform to the 7-Series, and should be even more spacious than the sedan.

The 5-Series wagon could appear about 12 months after the sedan, making it a 2011 model. It will likely have a 4.4-litre V8 twin-turbo engine with 400 hp, and a 3.0-litre version with 300 hp. Like the 5-Series, a more comprehensive engine line-up will appear later in the piece with both petrol and diesel options.

BMW 5-Series videos

By Alison

Here’s a full range of videos of the new BMW 5-Series, including its world premiere, beauty footage and on-the-road videos. They give us a closer look of the new design theme and a tour of the interior, which I must say looks very impressive. This 5-Series is going to go head-to-head with the Mercedes E-Class in what will likely be a long battle with no declared winner anytime soon.

New BMW 5-Series pics and details

By Alison

New BMW 5-Series official pics

The sixth generation BMW 5-Series has gotten rid of its Bangle design, as thought, and has evolved into a smaller version of the 7-Series, with some elements showing the influence of the 5-Series GT interior.

The new 5-Series is a sophisticated sedan, destined to be a crowd pleaser, with a few clever changes for this new generation. The interior takes on a more driver-oriented set-up, and the exterior design has a new, longer wheel base for more passenger room, and a longer bonnet.

The F10 named project has focused on pared-back, elegant design, and while it conservative, it still packs some aggression in the front nose. After the jump is the full press release from BMW on its new 5-Series, including its complete engine range at launch. More details, including pricing, should follow, and stay tuned for a 5-Series video.

Here’s a first look at the new BMW 5-Series sedan, though these teaser pics should be added to with a full gallery sometime soon. The 5-Series shows clean, minimalist lines and a front that takes on the same style introduced by the 7-Series. More pics coming as BMW releases them.

2010 BMW 5-Series pics: scoop mystery?

By Alison

2010 BMW 5-Series Scoop

In what are not new images, our colleagues at Autosblog.fr are describing these pics as the first real preview of the new BMW 5-Series. After some investigation, nothing is conclusive regarding these mysterious shots which were first published by a Scandinavian magazine in October.

They were then reproduced on the Bimmerpost site and described as renderings of the new 5-Series, which is to debut at the 2010 Geneva motor show. It appears, though, that the pictures have since been bought by Car and Driver magazine (according to our French source) and that the bridge in the background is in Lisbon, the same city that hosted the photo shoot for the new BMW 5-Series GT.

So, the guys at Autsoblog.fr are saying that this could be the first look at the BMW 5-Series in what will have been a very quiet scoop before its official presentation next year. Your thoughts?

New BMW 5-series GT to go cheaper

By Alison

BMW Serie 5 GT - Gallery Ufficiale

The BMW 5-Series GT is new to the market, but new versions could be on the way to make it a more affordable option. Autocar reports that a new twin-turbo diesel unit could be included in the range, once it’s established. A four-cylinder diesel is also being considered, which could be the 320d unit at 175 hp, making both these options entry-level models for the range.

The plan seems to be to drop the price tag of the 5-Series GT, which currently stands at about 40,000 pounds in the UK, to make it more accessible. According to reports, a possible M5 GT has now been discarded, with the top-of-the-range model being the 550i version, equipped with a 4.4i twin turbo at 407 hp.

BMW 5-Series production end

By Alison

Anteprima BMW Serie 5 Gran Turismo

According to reports the BMW 5-Series E60 and E61 will stop production as of December this year, paving the way for the 2010 Geneva show debut of the new 5-Series F10. This would then be followed by the BMW M5 with its much-talked of V8 engine.

Apparently in the US, orders for the current 5-Series model are already frozen, and the market is bating its breath for the 5-Series GT, which is likely to substitute the 5-Series station wagon. In Europe however, both station wagon and GT models should be an option. In the pics is a 5-Series GT preview.

BMW M5 spy video

By Alison

BMW M5 spy shot

The guys at carmagazine.co.uk have got themselves a spy video of the new BMW M5, which should appear some time in 2011 or even 2012. The new 5-Series is likely to emerge at the end of this year, and it will have its official presentation at next year’s Geneva Motor Show.

The V10 is gone, in favour of the more ecological V8, and an economic crisis. The new engine will be a 4.8-litre V8, and it still sounds good. It should still have about 550 hp and an eight-speed, dual-clutch transmission. Only the sedan will be available, with no M5 touring estate wagon planned at this stage.
