Anteprima BMW Serie 5 Gran Turismo

Here are some preview pics of the new BMW 5-Series GT, which will be officially presented at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show. The gallery shows some close-ups of the new crossover, with this model being the 530d GT, Comfort version.

Unfortunately the guys at Autoblog were denied pics of the engine or a test drive, otherwise this would be a far more extensive post on the new 5-Series GT. However, if you wanted an idea of the interior, it’s worth it - classic, smooth and technological, just what you would expect from BMW.

For an idea of the 5-Series pricing and engine range, see our previous post on 5-Series details in Europe, on the Italian market.

BMW Serie 5 GT - Gallery Ufficiale

BMW has released its pricing details for the 5 Series GT for the various European markets, and in Italy the base price will be 58,000 euros. That figure refers to the 530d GT Eletta, equipped with a 3.0 litre diesel common rail at 245 hp and 540 Nm. In total five versions are available of the Eletta and Attiva models.

In addition to the 530d model, the 5-Series Gran Turismo will be offered in the 535i and 550i variations. For the 3.0 litre twin turbo petrol units at 306 hp and 400 Nm, prices start at 58,500 euros. The top-of-the-range 550i Attiva version with the 4.4-litre V8 Twin Turbo at 407 hp and 600 Nm will sell for 85,400 euros. The list of optionals is, as usual, very long.

The Bmw 520d challenges the Toyota Prius on consumption: are the results given?

By Alison

bmw vs. toyota

More than batteries and hybrids: for the third millenium we’re still in high seas for fuel sources. Or at least this is as much reported by the British publication the Sunday Times, in which a Toyota Prius and a BMW Series 520d were put to a long highway test. And the results are surprising.

Everything stemmed from some readers notes who sustain that the consumption declared by the Japanese company is 15 miles per gallon (six km per litre) higher than comparable values on the road. And at this point the experiment took off.

The test was conducted on the road from London to Geneva, taking in nearly 700km of highway and more than 150km of urban and suburban roads. Although we need to admit that high speed cruising penalises hybrid cars, and the German car weighs 230kg more, the comparison was quite stark.
